Why was Superman's biggest dream in FTMWHE to live in a Krypton that never exploded with made up people? Why not a life where he's a regular human without superpowers living happily with his beloved ones he actually met? He didn't grow up in Krypton.
If there was a place that played such a major part of your life but you never got to see it, you'd probably dream about it too. His dream was the comprise between the normal life he wanted and the kryptonian life he always wondered about.
His biggest dream was that his parents never died. If you follow from that seed then he never leaves Krypton
It makes for a more fun story, that's why, especially when you can see how Jor-el feels after being btfo years ago. The JLU adaption does add his Lois/Lana hybrid wife though.

Part of him feels tied to his roots. Most humans feel the same. He just wanted to be connected with his kind.
Ultimately, even though he considers Earth his home, he still doesn't feel like he's a part of humanity.

It was silver age Superman. He was obsessed with Kryptonian culture back then, as well as wanted to find beings like him. It was retconned in Byrne's reboot, where Superman was more of an Earthling and stood for American ways.
