All three are okay when played to their strengths. Pepper in particular was written really well in IM1.
But I would argue Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Paige has been given quite a bit of material to work with and done wonderfully. Karen Paige might be the most developed marvel heroine. Think how many other female characters one shows tend to get stalled for whole season, like poor Panabaker as Caitlin Snow on Flash. Or Melinda May disappearing for episodes in AoS.
Ritter as Jessica Jones had to work very hard to make a bitter, mean drunk like Jessica into a sympathetic and nuanced protagonist.
And if you look at Elodie Yung's very first dialog scene with Charlie Cox in episode five of Daredevil she nails the character instantly. Her movement, her mannerisms, all of them convey the party girl with an edge that Elektra is at that point in her life. (some of the writing suffered in a few later episodes but I can't fault her for that)
A lot of /co/mrades don't hold women to different standards, they just discredit their presence in the narrative entirely, and it gets a little bizarre. The idea of being repulsed by the presence of a woman in a story in any context is just unexplainable after the hundredth thread.

Most of the time I just think the movie would be improved if it didn't have a romance subplot. Bourne Identity for example, or Spectre last year (though Spectre was shit in general, the romance only made it worse). I'm saying this as a woman, so it's not a "hurr durr wymmin get off my screen" reaction. If I want romance, I'll just watch romantic comedies or dramas. When I watch action movies, I want to see action, not the MC proclaiming his/her undying devotion to the love interest after 2 days of meeting eachother. There are instances when romance is done well in action movies, but in my experience they're few and far between.

See, to get a big tentpole feature made,which most actions films come under, you need to hit (in the eyes of the executives) at least 2 of the primary demographics (children, young adults/teens, 30+, and all of this divided by gender). Adding a romance subplot makes the suits think that your script now has appeal to women; I'm not saying that women necessarily like romance more but Hollywood suits certainly think that way.
With that said, I don't know why they think that way; most girls I know who like romance infilms will just watch a romantic drama or comedy; I've never known anyone to be enticed by the romance subplots in action films.
