I feel like it's gonna be Burns, or at least he's going to be directly involved in Smithers' confession of love or w/e.
Not literally, in the sense that "he was always gay and all those times he was shown with women over the years he was just in denial! REALLY" but maybe almost reciprocating Smithers' feelings, or expressing some type of affection beyond just constantly keeping him around.
The episode itself, going by plot synopses etc., is supposedly about Smithers having had enough of Burns' mistreatment and his own weird fantasies going unfulfilled, and so walking out and hooking up with someone else. Supposedly also making his sexuality obvious to Burns at some point, maybe.
Then again, it could just as easily end with a simple back to status quo thing, which is definitely more likely. But since the show's already been bad for like decades, I kind of would almost prefer if they really did something like them hooking up that'd change the show slightly and piss off a fuckload of fans.
If you're going to be shit at least be daring about it is all I'm saying.
