Hi /co/, I usually go to /k/ and /vg/
I recently went to my grandfather's house for a family reunion/St. Patrick's day party, and being a good grandson, arrived early. This turned out to be to my benefit.
As it turns out, my grandpa used to collect comic books, and did a pretty good job of preserving them. According to him, he'd buy one to read, and one which he'd immediately bag, and never took out.
I had the good fortune to look through these, and he told me to take whatever I like. It turns out that he put price tags on some of them, and being the scumbag that I am, I aimed for the higher priced ones (though I suspect the prices were written in the 90s/out of date by a good bit). These amounted to quite the stack, and after checking with him, I skipped away a happy camper.
What I'm getting to is, I have around 30 or so excellently preserved 80’s era comics, mostly consisting of marvel published comics, and since I know basically nothing about comic pricing, I was wondering if you lot could help me figure out if I have anything good.
Pic related is the stack of comics. The most numerous series I have are “classic x-men” and “the uncanny x-men”, which should I start with?

Unless you've got a first appearance or something they're probably not worth all that much. By the 80s lots of people were collecting and preserving comics, so they're nowhere near as scarce as books from the 60s or older.

Best bet is to check ebay but ignore graded/slabbed prices and only look at sold listings.

Well, got them for free, so any money I make is a profit

I think I had one that said it was the first appearance of gambit, should I post a picture?

No picture need just the title and issue number.

Fuck if, posting a pic before the thread 404s. It says the issue number is 266, and the price thing says $75, can anyone confirm this?

The uncanny x-men, issue 266. See >>80939042

first appearance of gambit, that's probably worth something

If you sell it on a common comic store you won't make more than 10
on ebay you can get a 100 but that is a slim chance.

Comics aren't a good investment anyway, at least you are not into baseball cards.

>>80939178
It does look fantastic
>>80939295
I'll check eBay or Google real quick and report back
>>
>>80939042
First appearances won't make you a millionaire like you're probably hoping.

But you could get a good $100.

Maybe $125 if the movie ever comes through.
>>
>>80939042
It's closer to $60-70, but maybe you could get lucky and two people would get in a bidding war.

Honestly, any money you make should go towards a gift for him. Or read the comics and enjoy them yourself. They're worth far more that way, and not from a sentimental point of view. They're literally worth more because comics are basically worthless, price-wise.

>>80939360
Googling tells me around $200-$400, eBay sold listings say anywhere from $69 to $300

I do have one that I think is unique, it's a special edition of "the rocketeer" issue 1 that's signed by Dave Stevens, any idea what it might be worth? Pic related
>>
>>80939817
That's really fucking cool, but I bet it's not worth much.
>>
The one thing that trips me up is I can't find prices for the "classic x-men" anywhere, Google and sold on eBay don't have them, should I post the issue numbers I have?
>>
>>80939817
That one should get you around 15$ more or less.

Also always remember that if you don't have a reputable account on ebay you probably will have to give a small discount on your prices in order to get people to bite.
