Otherwise, I think it's because more open minded viewers like the first couple, but they know others didn't, so they use that as an assurance not drop the show early. After that point though, people are free to drop the show if they want.

If you've daydream watched a couple of episodes and haven't liked it I wouldn't bother, but I enjoy it. It has some really cartoony and wacky episodes that are good, but a lot of them are more slice of life stuff that adult/manchild watchers may find more entertaining.
It just feels very real and nostalgic in a good way. While shows like Gravity Falls and Regular Show just say "BAM 80/90s REFERENCE", Clarence has a much more universal approach to bringing up nostalgic moments by showing us things we did as kids (Clarence having people running on telephone wires while looking out the car window is a big example) and really catalogs the last generation of "free roaming" kids (to steal a quote from another anon).
Also all the kids act like kids and the adults act like adults. Which is really refreshing in an age where any 40 year old man can voice a 5 year old who acts like the 20-30 year old creator. Clarence is weird and gross but he's still a kid instead of just a small retarded adult, and Jeff is the "straight man" and would be presented as a genius adult in child's clothing in any other show, but Clarence has him just as dumb as the rest of them (except for comedic OCD).
Adding to that, the adults feel fleshed out and more than just jokes. Clarence's mom actually feels like a single mother trying to be the best mom that she can. Sumo's dad is an immature white trash macho man with anger issues.
All the characters feel like people we knew as children or now, and who we see in ourselves for better or for worse. Don't really go in expecting EEnE or something more madcap, and you'll appreciate it more. I didn't like it at first but now it's one of the shows I regularly see if there's new episodes out.

I watched clarence and I feel like I've given it a fair shake. I'm just so jaded by a lot of modern cartoons not even nostalgia can help sometimes. I can't even stand regular show. Honestly, I like SU, but I get this mentality. I stopped keeping up with the show until mirror gem/ocean gem, but once those episodes came out, I picked it up full steam.
