This is the biggest question I have as well. So far, as villains go, we've got Cottonmouth, Black Mariah, and Shades confirmed. Cottonmouth has super strength in the comics, and Shades has laser-shooting goggles, and Black Mariah has no powers at all.
So far we've seen no indication that Cottonmouth in the show is anything but a gangster, and I have a hard time believing they'll give Shades genuine laser vision. But they've got to threaten Cage somehow, and both DD and JJ have featured superpowered enemies who can challenge the hero.

I've read the old Hero For Hire/Power Man and Power Man/Iron Fist. The stories themselves aren't bad (especially based Mary Jo Duffy), but the dialogue in Hero For Hire and Power Man is fucking awful. Strip away the fake jive talk, there's a good character there. If all you like about it is the coonery, then you can fuck right the fuck off. Nobody gets mad that Spider-Man isn't still using slang and making references from the 60s and 70s. Shit needs to evolve to stay relevant.
Parkerbolts is probably the best recent Cage, but Bendis Cage has his moments. I just want a modern Luke who stays true to the ESSENCE of the character without looking and acting like a buffoon. We already have Black Dynamite, I'm good on that front.

The dialogue is hilarious and adds color, everybody else of every race creed and color talks like a normal human being but Cage just has an odd vernacular with his stalwart morals. It is the frosting on the cake of the character. These are comic books so deal with a bit of fun, the dialogue is at least a good third of the classic series' charm though I agree it's too difficult to preserve now. Nobody's really creative enough to have this guy unironically say a bunch of corny made up expressions while trying to do good

I don't think any of those are inherently bad for the character, some interesting things have been done with them, but the overall execution has been pretty bad. I mean, Luke palled around with the Fantastic Four and the Defenders, which, granted, aren't quite the same thing, but it's not like he never had any superhero friends outside of Danny. The problem is they didn't give him anything outside of the Avengers and modern writers love rehashing the same ideas. So you get the same thing over and over, often without even trying a different angle to it.
I do like that Jessica and the baby haven't really played much of a role in the new series because, while you can't 100% ignore it, dude needs a life beyond being husband/father. Overall, it's more mediocre than bad. The thing that has bothered me the most is Jennie Royce being black all of a sudden. So, whatever, maybe I'm weird.
