This is baffling.

Is the Civil War comic that popular amongst casuals? Or is it the Spidey factor?

It beat Star Wars teaser by a few million, how did that happen?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_viewed_online_videos_in_first_24_hours
>>
>>80779865

It has Iron Man, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, and Captain America

Basically, this movie will be more popular than Jesus
>>
>>80779865
>Is the Civil War comic that popular amongst casuals?
It became popular after they announced the movie and it gained more because Spiderman was in it.
>>
A)Spider Man.
B)New take on the Marvel formula when fatigue over excessive quips and being too happy is setting in.
C)Avengers cast directed by the guys who made The Winter Soldier.

All three lead to a lot of hype.

I wonder if they were considering making a Spider Man origin story movie before the internet screamed at them not too.
>>
>>80779865
>how did that happen?
YO HO HO HE TOOK A BITE OF GUM-GUM
But yeah, it's a combo of superheroes that we've seen being comfortable in their element drop the shenanigans and are now acting really serious, comparatively at least, while fighting one another as well as Spider-Man.
>>
>>80779865
Casuals don't care about s-spider-man, right guys?
G-Guys?
>>
MCU Spider-Man
MCU Spider-Man
and MCU Spider-Man

Yeah, sure, the warring aspects have people *kind of* interested. But now that people are aware of the MCU and what is/isn't the MCU, they're highly interested in what certain properties would be like in the "official" MCU.

The trailer gives the answer to a question hundreds of millions of people have asked since 2010/2011. It's legit not surprising: it's goddamn Spider-Man.
>>
>but muh superhero fatigue!
>>
Spider-Man is Marvel's biggest brand and the MCU itself is pretty popular too. Seems kind of common sense to me that the trailer would do well.
>>
Imagine if they made OMD into a Spidey movie
How pissed would casuals be?
>>

Probably a lot, so much that casuals would DEMAND an alternate ending with May dying and Peter having his family at the end, which then would be praised so much that what whoever the fuck decided to make that story happen would shit himself to death, while the comics finally retcon OMD

And that's why they can't actually make that movie, as it will be fucked up over fans and casuals so much that the story will be changed.

Excuse me, dear anon, but I live in Mexico, and the kids LOVE spidey and Batman so much that they have the highest numbers in toys being bought.

However, teenagers and adults end up liking more Spider-Man, probably because of the Raimi movies, the videogames and so on.

Anyways, the point is that showing Spider-Man in that trailer ended up being a right choicwe, as he SELLS the movie even more than only "muh Civil War"

Civil War has long been in print and is one of Marvel's best selling series. It practically prints money and always has. The movie just boosted it. Casuals love it, the delusional Marvel Zombies love it, and it's marketing campaign was pretty memorable. "I'm with Cap" and "I'm with Iron Man" images were so popular even anime fags who had no interest in American comics were making them.

Isn't it sad how well loved it is compared to better stories?

So why are people trying to convince themselves or others (or pretend) like this isn't going to make a metric shitboat of shekels?

I mean I'm psyched about just about every comic book related release in varying degrees for the next five years except maybe Cyborg.

Can't wait to see BvS, Dr. Strange. Civil War, Suicide Squad, Shazam, Captain Marvel, The next Solo Spidey film with the new actor, etc. I love comic books and I love that theyre making so many movies about them. When one is less than enjoyable. Oh well too bad that one sucked, but they can't all be Iron Man 2 or Amazing Spider-man 2, or Man of Steel.

It just blows my mind there are these snarking mewling hand wringing people sitting in front of their computers and gnashing their teeth as they try to paint as negative picture as possible in honestly idiotic ways.
"yeah thisll show them, HA look at this graph...and this projection from a site that regularly proves it just fucking takes broad guesses. HA it proves that the movie you want to be good is going to tank despite all the previous movies these people made doing incredibly fucking well! It's over reeeeeeee"

It just sounds like the faggiest delusional nonsense from people who don't want to admit they still carry around the obnoxious self important cynicism of their teenage years well into the mid 20s and are no longer capable of dealing with the idea that others enjoy shit.

>>
>>80782483

I'll see what it actually looks like in the movie though. There's a lot more texture to it than the trailer showed.
>>
>>80782483
I'm not sure why people think that?
I love the brightness of it, that it isn't overly ribbed and textured with raised webbing anymore, that it has the little utility belt notches, that its got the ditko eyes going on. I think the black stripes are unecessary and if anything cut into the clean simplicity of the suit but besides that its all gravy.

The shutter eyes are a bit different and I hope not consistently overused. but it's cool and makes me think theyll pull off the occasional wide eyed spidey impression you get in the comics sometimes.
>>
>>80782262
The last one was also the weakest at the box office, hence why Sony decided to get help from Marvel

The highest grossing Spiderman movies are the 1st and 3rd Raimi ones, unadjusted they made respectively $821millions and $890, followed by Spiderman 2 that made $783millions

I feel it comes a lot from people who don't like what Marvel does on the comic side, especially how they got away with it for so long.

So they're cheering for the idea of MCU failing and DC becoming the dominant force in superhero material again.

>>80782664
I must be on the other side of that fence because i'm fucking loving Marvel comics right now. Not all of it mind you. Whor is a goddamn bore and x-men are a complete and utter cluster fuck that need to have all their current arcs washed away and a new slew of writers put onto them with this inhuman flu shit done away with.

But other than that and probably a few other turds I am liking quite a bit of the post secret wars stuff. I mean hell I actually found myself enjoying Iron-Man. And thats Bendis. I didn't think id enjoy another Bendis comic for as long as I live (though I still spit on his name for what he did to the X-men and how he squandered where Cyclops was post AvX)
>>

Spider-Man is like the most popular superhero in the world.

Even kebab shop owners in India know who he is.
>>
>>80782718
God I know. Part of me was like 'why not give it gold talons around the neck...or like real ones' to be a little more royally flashy. Then I realized those are probably pure fucking vibranium. So theyre basically more expensive than having pure diamond claws hanging around his neck and are about as flashy as you can get.
>>
>>80782767
I love me some spider-man but is that the case all over though. If I was gonna hazard a guess as to the MOST popular. Id probably say batman. Just due to the long LONG running movie and animated presence hes had in the mainstream.

This is a good post.
>>
>>80782825
Are we going with popular as in 'well known' or 'well liked'?
>>
>>80782825
I think it's top three.
Superman is number 1 simply because he was the first and biggest and his symbol and general aesthetic are what people associate with the word "superhero", and then Batman and Spider-man are 2 and 3 depending on the country you're in. You have to remember for example, that Japan LOVES Spider-man, whereas Batman? Not so much.

People like Spider-Man games because they're fans of Spider-Man and they're decent. People like the Batman Arkham games because they're genuinely great games.

The people who made them need to make my wish come true and make an open world Daredevil game. Then include a hardcore Devil mode in which you play the whole game using DD's equivolent of detective vision ALWAYS on. To simulate the idea of being daredevil at all times. Have it so it shows less det....what am i saying, have it fucking be detective mode. Thats basically already DD vision. Maybe add in more visual cues for sounds and scents and vibrations and shit.

It'll never happen. but I want it so bad.

I'm not a muh box office fag, but this is kinda interesting. Could it be the kids factor? Does Spiderman attract a bigger audience that Batman simply by being more lighthearted?
>>

Bats got lucky in the animation and video game business, but it was more for adults though
>>
>>80782483
I don't like it. The black lines are unnecessary.

I've been surprised over the past week about the reaction to the costume. Everyone is saying it's perfect. It's lumped into montage "2016 - the year of faithful comic book costumes" pictures.

People are even saying the black lines "break up all the red". When that has never been an issue before.
>>
>>80779865
It's not Civil War, it's fucking Spidey in Marvel cinematic universe that people are waiting for.

It's Marvel throw their ultimate weapon(CW&Spidey) against DC(BvS). What I'm worry is now that both of them throw their best at us...how the fuck can they make IW and JL interesting? Thanos and Darkseid, these two dudes were fucking boring, you see? Your typical big bad Villian.
>>
>>80783281
As >>80780775 , it's a little bit difficult to say that in some places, since that guy implies that's it's rather the adults who are the ones who love more Spider-Man than Batman.

But I do believe Spider-man is indeed the kids's choice when talking about USA.
>>
>>80781755

>>
>>80783197

Actually no, at least not from your numbers. You are assuming the price of the ticket is constant when it isn't. Tickets cost more nowadays (even if you include inflation). In part this is because the price of 3d, but they also just cost more nowadays.

There was an article circulating after Dark Knight Rises was released that argued more people actually saw the first Batman movies in theatres than DKR. This is because less people are going to see movies, but those that do are paying more to see them.
>>
>>80783353
Darkseid really is just the typical big bad villain, just a space satan who wants to murder everyone's souls. Thanos is a more interesting character, but I'm sure the MCU will water him down into the typical big bad villain.

Spiderman just isn't suited for TV budget
It's not just about him, look at his most recognizable villains

>Guy with 4 metal arms
>Guy in an halloween costume with flying gear
>Guy that turns into sand
>Giant lizard guy
>Giant Rhino guy
>Doppelganger made of black goo
And so on

Shows like Flash already struggle with making the effects of people simply running and big gorillas/shark people
Forcing Spiderman in a limited budget would get us stuff like Smallville, where most villains end up being "normal looking man/teenager that does flashy hand gestures and often transforms off camera"

Honestly their motivation is a bit different. Darkseid seems entirely motivated by the desire to rule. Not just planets of course but seemingly free will itself he wants to be extinguished. I could be wrong but thats what ive always gathered from the Darkseid stuff i've read.

Thanos' motivation is love. Seems like a silly thing but he is just so fucking distanced from the norm the only being he relates to is the personification of death herself. And all his actions are to create a universe in which Death is pleased so that she will accept him and love him.

One is a kind of cosmic fascist, the other a kind of cosmic nihilist.

Also Darkseid has the whole space emperor thing going. Thanos doesn't typically work that way. He will amass bands of warriors, or an army, or whatever he needs to accomplish his goals. But he doesn't rule exactly. He mainly brings in mercenaries of followers as he needs them.

There are a good deal of similarities between these characters but honestly they aren't the same at all. I think they just seem that way at first glance and as you prefer DC over Marvel in all likelihood thats the one you prefer. Which is fine but in the end one can dismiss one as shit as easily as the other. I think theyre both pretty cool.
