Not that guy but... Rick and Morty is surprisingly smart humour. Once you look past the more obviously transgressive stuff, the show has a lot to say about existentialism, trauma, the banality of western culture, substance abuse, mental illness, codependency, post structuralism...
To me the most transgressive thing about the show isn't the dick and fart jokes, it's how it fucking blindsides you with depictions of real suffering and torment. Like, the kind that has depth. Other animated comedies kick a guy in the balls for laughs. Rick and Morty traumatizes a guy to the point that he loses faith in the human race and all moral order in the universe.

Believe it or not Simpsons was in fact considered edgy when it first came out. What's "Edgy" changes throughout the years as society dictates what's taboo or not. That said comparing saying "hell" and rape is a bit a as if those two are the same exact shit doesn't seem quite right anon.

Nah, I more see it as something that goes into extremes.
I would consider that rape scene edgy if Morty actually got penetrated, and it was shown in detail.
South Park is a show I will admit is edgy at times (That fucking christmas critters episode, for example). But Rick and Morty only gets borderline. and never actually reaches it.

I think that just be porn at that point, but fair enough I suppose in today's modern times and as you said with shows like "South Park" the line on what's is/isn't okay to show on t.v. has been stretched forward in lengths nobody would've ever expected or imagine.
But then again you can also claim the current trend of safety and what's this decade being mocked as "Wussification of America" has actually brought that line back down.

Eh, Futurama was more just a typical comedy set in the future so it could reference things like Star Trek all the time. It had its occasional "see, i have a phd" kind of joke, but it never had many thought provoking episodes.
Simpsons during its first 4 seasons was more intelligent, honestly.
