Blame falls squarely on the parents. They made Elsa into a paranoid reclusive mess and Anna into a neglected attention-seeking whore. It took the people a single fucking day to embrace Elsa's magic, yet their retarded parents ruined their childhoods over it. Them drowning was pure karma.

Marrying an attention starved girl for her money isn't exactly a masterplan of exceeding difficulty. He was a good actor at best, but Anna was a QT so it wasn't even hard to act enamored. Worst case scenario he gets to live in a castle, bone a hot girl and his kids will inherit the throne because the queen is frigid. But no, he had to go and do stupid shit because he couldn't wait worth a damn.

No, royalty doesn't "own" the kingdom, especially in the north. Not even in the 1800s.

They rule because the other noble families, clergy and military deign them fit for ruling, essentially, and their noble family likely has some estates and fortune etc. but they don't "own" the entire kingdom.

I have a question about this animatic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Sgr9Ro3Oxc

Elsa freezes Anna's heart by accident at the end. But unlike in the movie, she sees it happen and appears to be shocked about it. Have Disney people discussed this video with the fans and mentioned how the story was gonna continue from there? Was Elsa still gonna let a big angry snowman chase her sister out of the castle, despite the knowledge that Anna's been injured and might die? Or was the plot gonna head towards some totally different direction?
>>

What was he supposed to have waited for? Anna showed up very clearly at death's door, hair white, freezing cold (so bad he feels it instantly through her winter clothes), almost unable to walk on her own. She says that Elsa struck her with her powers and froze her heart and only a true love's act can save her, everyone assumes this means a kiss, as far as Hans knows there's no-one who has true love for Anna so there's nothing to be done.

I agree that he should have sat there and waited for Anna to die just to be sure before going after the witch queen, but he couldn't have anticipated Olaf.

But otherwise I think he acted pretty much how other very ambitious men might have done.

This is actually true, memery aside. Zootopia and Tangled actually have a better story than Frozen. Frozen's rewrites were so damn obvious, but luckily the audience got distracted with the snow and the actual snow blizzard happening.

It's a miracle how okay Zootopia turned out to be, despite the drastic rewrite it went through. Then again, in that one interview, the Zootopia directors did say they felt like they had all the right pieces and they just had to figure out how to arrange them.

Imagine if Anna has hurt herself falling out of a tree.

I wouldn't have minded so much if he'd like, I dunno, had any look on his face other than wistful happiness when he was under his douchecanoe when he met Anna. Literally any other emotion: anger, worry, confusion, resignation, they all fit with the situation he's in and with his ultimate goal. >because Disney cheated the villain in at the last moment.
But that's not true at all. All the sources say that Hans, or the earlier versions of that character like Admiral WestergƄrd, was never good. He was made to be the villain. Jennifer Lee has also said in the scriptnotes interview ( http://johnaugust.com/2014/scriptnotes-ep-128-frozen-with-jennifer-lee-transcript ) that she and John Lasseter went through Hans' inner thoughts carefully scene by scene, to get his facial expressions and behaviour just right, balancing between having him show what's really going on in his mind and not tipping their hand to the audience.

The whining about them writing Hans as a villain being a last-minute addition is pure bullshit.

He had a look of wistful happiness when looking after Anna because
a) he was prepared to marry a queen-to-be no-one had seen in over a decade, which is exceptional, so the thought that it's because of some deformity or hideousness must have crossed his mind, but who gives a shit he needs a kingdom so he'll marry into one no matter what it takes. Therefore it must have been a huge relief that the girl he'll need to marry for convenience is actually pretty, and not a hideous hag,
and
b) he hadn't spent enough time with Anna to be annoyed by her yet. But during the coronation ball, you can see him get increasingly fed up with her whimsical bullshit. First in glad I caught you, then when she smacks him in the face, then the sock sliding, SANDWICHES etc, and finally during the engagement announcement his smiles are visibly forced and fake.
>>
>>80716029
He was always planned to be the villain. He's happy in that scene because it's clear she's a clingy, socially awkward weirdo who's easy to manipulate. Why would he show anger or resignation?
>>
>>80719511
Allow me to clarify a few details.

Prince Hans evolved from a character named Admiral Westergard. That's where the canonically-accepted surname of Prince Hans comes from.

Admiral Westergard was written to be a stupid, inbred noble who goes on a power trip. He concludes that he must be the one to sacrifice Elsa to lift the winter as foretold by the scrapped prophecy. But the directors preferred a villain who was sneaky & twists the knife on both the protagonist & the audience.

The concept of the romantic-evening love interest is the villain has been incorporated into the script in mid-production drafts. However, the twist reveal ot the villain came late in an already-rushed production.

It was dying for a long time, less and less people posted due to there being no new content in the franchise and people losing interest. I think this will serve to get some more people to you know what.
Some will probably return here, like me, some will try to find a new place, I don't know.

>>80720282
>Admiral Westergard was written to be a stupid, inbred noble who goes on a power trip.
How do you know that? I'm genuinely curious.
However, the pic in >>80719511 as well as pic related are early concept art for Hans. He doesn't look that silly, and is clearly villainous.

The thing is that Hans being a villain is probably at least as old a development as Elsa and Anna being sisters. Therefore it's stupid to treat it as if it would be some especially last-minute addition to the character to "turn" him into a villain, when the entire movie is nothing but last-minute rewrites. Fuck if I understand it correctly the idea of Elsa not being villainous was invented around mid-production, based on Menzel's touching rendition of Let It Go.

One, many concept art is made to explore characterization possibilities.

Two, there was always a certain smugness in his concept art. Think kinda like Prince Charming in Shrek or Futurama's Zapp Bannigan- a pompous ass high off of the air of his own voice.

I'll tru to find a source. A quote on it went something like "[Hans] was never quite good, but sneaky was more fun than stupid."

Not him, but I assumed he was referring to this tweet.

Then there's his deleted song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk8VnQifCxA
In the movie, Hans kept observing the people around him carefully in an attempt to find their weaknesses so he could exploit them with his charisma. But the guy doing this song belittles Anna and doesn't let her join in the song. He seems more self-absorbed and oblivious of other people's feelings.

Also, the audition for the character apparently called for an overly confident ladies' man with a dark side:
http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Santino-Fontana-Reveals-FROZEN-Audition-Song-I-Feel-Pretty-20131219
The guy who got the part did a take on "I feel pretty". The audition description or the song don't seem all that Hans-like to me. So I'm getting the vibe he was originally supposed to be a bit more pompous and egoistic like Gaston or Prince Charming from Shrek. Those traits were probably toned down to make his reveal scene more of a surprise.

There was just too much naivete to the smile, not a self-crongratulating smile of how fortunate the circumstances were & how malleable his underhanded plans were. It's too geniune; Prince Hans was well aware of how nefarious his plans were so a facial expression should match.

Zootopia threads surprisingly have a lot of discussion regarding worldbuilding, concept art, and production details.

Frozen has exhausted this type of discussion, resulting to just waifu discussion and boob jiggling. Maybe that's why?
>>
>>80721348
>well aware of how nefarious his plans were
His plans at that point were "marry the queen-to-be and become a king by her side" though, and were juuuust changing into "hey maybe I can marry the first-in-line to the throne instead of going home in defeat, close enough, I can work with that".

I mean Hans isn't like a traditional Disney villain who just wants to be evil for the sake of being evil. I think you expecting some nefariousness is just you being upset that the character doesn't quite match your headcanon and declaring that shitty writing, instead of accepting that the character is different from how you see them
>>
>>80720505
It looks like a sociopath who's relieved his plan is going to be easy peasy. He's got a similar air when he notices how fractured Anna and Elsa's relationship is until she reveals her magic.
>>
I like to picture Hans in the same vein as Dennis from Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
>>
>>80721417
By the smile-under-the-boat shot, Prince Hans had already readjusted his plans with Anna as his door to the royal line & Elsa would have to be bumped off. He knew he was going to murder for his plan, he knew his plans were dark & underhanded, so it doesn't mach his sneers in his reveal scene.
>>
>>80721523
Not at all. He was glad to catch Anna because it coommenced a night of [indsufferable] wooing. Besides, in the coronation ball scenes, Prince Hans constantly had an audience, unlike the for-viewers'-eyes-only shot of his smile under the boat.
>>
>>80721285
Precisely. Thank you internet stranger!
>>
>>80721856
That's just your headcanon, dude. You have no official source giving you solid canon insight into Hans' head, scene by scene. And no, the A Frozen Heart book isn't that since it flat-out contradicts several scenes in the animated film, describing situations and discussions that simply are not had in those scenes, so it's not official canon.

>He knew he was going to murder for his plan, he knew his plans were dark & underhanded
That's just how you've interpreted the character. But seeing how carefully Lee & Lasseter went over Hans and his expressions and thoughts scene by scene - if his expression doesn't match your headcanon of how you think he's feeling in that scene, then most likely it's your headcanon that's wrong.

>it doesn't mach his sneers in his reveal scene
He probably felt very differently about Anna by the reveal scene, several days later, then, than at the boats when he'd just met her and didn't know almost anything about her except that she's cute?

Woah dude. You're pissed because I out-deduced you. Prince Hans knew what the change in his plan would entail but that smile has such dissonance to what was going on in that scene. If you're going to bring up what the directors said, here is what she said about Prince Hans's thoughts in that scene:

>Jennifer: Well, whatā€™s interesting was it was a big ā€” there was a lot of debate about that, not when to give it away. And John Lasseter particularly really didnā€™t want to. He loved it so much not to that he would push to the extreme sometimes where my sociopathic mind would break down because Iā€™d be like, no, no, no, he wouldnā€™t do that because heā€™s calculating.
>So, I had to literally walk through every scene, whatā€™s going on in his head for real, and at least I could ā€” like when he says, the first time when he finds out sheā€™s princess and drops to his knees. Before that sheā€™s just a girl. But the key moment is when she says, ā€œItā€™s just me.ā€ And he goes, ā€œJust you?ā€
>And thatā€™s like inside heā€™s going, ā€œOoh, you donā€™t think very highly of yourself, do you? Well, Iā€™m gonnaā€¦ā€

A Frozen Heart is basically a Disney-sanctioned fanfiction, & we all remember [or don't] what happened to The Lion King's Kopa (neither are canon).
>>
>>80722833
Guy who was sucking Hans' dick so hard that he started talking seriously about how his "microexpressions" indicate he was more complex/justifiably evil than the scheming git that everyone else rightly thought he was.

It was pure, concentrated autism.
>>
>>80721973
Anon... it's a smile of relief. Its a red herring.

I think the issue is people think he's normally mustache twirling. The dude just wanted to be king because of his daddy issues and if he had to bump some other royals from their own kingdom off to get there he'd do it. He gives up the act when Anna comes back because he doesnt love her, he never did. Theres no point in pretending anymore because he cant save her anyway and he was sick of her shit.
>>
>>80722849
>You're pissed because I out-deduced you.
Uhh, I'm not pissed at all. What makes you think that? A bit overly paranoid and sensitive, are we? :D

Also, I'm not sure how it's deducing anything that you're upset that the expression on a character's face is not what you think it should be.

It is what it is. What's animated in the film is what's canon. Even the quote you pasted shows that Lee & Lasseter spent a lot of time and effort thinking about Hans and his thoughts, especially in that scene.

Again, therefore what they ended up animating his face doing is intentional. If you think there's a "dissonance" it must mean that your belief of what's going on in his head is wrong.

Relief... Relief about what? Hans's plans became simutaneously more complicated (added murder) yet easier (new romance target is hornier than an Irish bunny). There's not really any relief in that...

Prince Hans's smile was completely to subvert any audience suspicion regarding the character. The writer can't fudge her way out of that; it was purely wank writing for shock value.

>>

>>
>>80723906
You sure? I've known some catholic girls who were pretty slutty because they were raised in that environment.
>>
>>80723786
Anna did not wholeheartedly blame herself for Elsa's fleeing. She took responsibility at the ball & claimed it was all her fault when searching on horseback to only mumble to herself none of this would've happened if Elsa told her about her powers beforehand.

The film needed Anna to be seriously pissed off at her sister. Would've made for a stronger resolution.
>>
>>80724164
does "pretty slutty" mean "fullblown lesbian"? Not bi or kissing with girls to get attention at parties, just totally gay for ever to the point of giving up on men for good?

And I mean, if it would work that way then wouldn't all of the repressed virgins who can't get laid by age 18 turn gay?
>>

Catholic girls became lesbian because they were sexually repressed in youth? That's not how lesbians work, but it is a good way to create sluts of any orientation.

Well, no, partially, we haven't seen Elsa using ANY sort of regeneration or revival powers, so how can I say that she can do any of that? And yes, I say she'd die to a real assassin because I haven't seen her do anything that looks like it could repel an assassin, partly because you really wouldn't have to fight her head on, and because Elsa's kingdom looks like it has terrible security

Elsa is the cause of the eternal winter, but she made her decisions out of concern for others's welfare. Elsa exiled herself for thirteen years in solitary confinement be ause she did not want to harm anyone with her volatile powers. During the coronation ball, Elsa accidentally released her magic. Those icicles could have impaled someone. Elsa saw her presence as a danger to everyone around her, so she believed the best way of preventing further harm was to run as far away from people as she could. When Anna came to her doorstep high in the mountains far away from people, Elsa insisted that Anna leave for her own safety. But Anna, claiming to understand something that is far beyond her mental capacity, kept pushing Elsa & only exacerbated her anxieties into an axiety attack. Elsa pushes back & accidentally strikes Anna. Elsa conjures up a snow bouncer to remove all guests & prevent any further visitors from being exposed to her dangerous magic. Elsa is confused to why Hans captured her & brought her back to the castle as by the line "But I'm a danger to Arendelle."

Well but on the other hand, when she was 8 the trolls showed her the very frightening prophecy of the crowd of people turning red and attacking her as soon as they find out about the powers. Her parents were also so spooked by this they thought the best way to handle things is to hide, repress, conceal, never let anyone know, because it's so dangerous. The trolls also went through the trouble of altering Anna's memories while they saved her, just to keep her from knowing about Elsa.

After an upbringing like that, it's hard to think that hey maybe I'll just undo everything and flippantly reveal the big secret we've been going to such pains to keep secret for the past decade lol what could go wrong maybe it'll fuck with her magically-altered memories
>>
>>80731651
not that anon,
But Elsa doesn't have omniscience or anything like that. She makes dreadful decisions and is very easily duped by Hans on the ice. She also gets knocked out by tripping and hitting her head on the floor when she runs from the falling chandelier; she's unconscious for quite a while, so it doesn't imply she heals like wolverine or is invulnerable or such. She also gets a flu in Frozen Fever and becomes very affected by in within a few hours, to the point of almost falling to her death while being delirious, so she's not impervious to sickness, either.

I'd say that her powers are just an extension of her consciousness or emotions. They blocked the Weselton operator arrow because Elsa saw it coming; she shielded herself with her hands, and the powers enforced that emotion of covering up. But they don't magically spring up to protect her from harm with a consciousness of their own.

Also, despite Elsa having the ability to create snowstorms, she can't keep up a constant blizzard in the middle of Arendelle's capital, and the ice spears or shields or whatnot, again, require her to see the threat and react to it.

So, she's by no means the "easiest" royal to kill, but she can be killed, to answer >>80730688

They weren't really assassins since they ran straight at her in the open while shouting "get her". More like just attacking soldiers or thugs. Just using a crossbow doesn't make one an assassin

>new short
Well it's just speculation.

But people have found some "deluxe junior novelisations" at Amazon, and there's new merch being listed for being released in the summer, all for "Frozen: Northern Lights". The new merch features new renders, too.

What's interesting is that the new novelisations promising to "retell and expand upon Northern Lights in a fresh new way", which really hints toward Northern Lights being a short. What's also notable is that the novelisation for Northern Lights is over 200 pages, whereas the novelisation for Frozen Fever was less than 100 pages.

The novelisations are set to release in July and then November, so people are estimating it'd mean release in theatres around July and home video November. Looking at Disney's movie release schedule, a strong contender to have a Frozen short attached to it could be the live-action version of BFG.

Of course, on top of that there's the already announced holiday special, but that's coming Christmas season 2017.

It always bothered me too. A lifetime of being crippled by fear, and then it's "loveā€¦ of course!" and that's it, trauma vanquished.

>parents raised her in isolation telling her that people will hate her if they find out who she really is
>grows up to be distant, reclusive and paranoid
But it's totally not her parents' fault, right? You dumb cunt.
