playful joker > edgy joker

Hamil's Joker was the perfect balance of both, imo.
How about playfully edgy?
Recurring villains are idiotic in general. The Joker can be good as a one-off, two-parter, or maybe a three-parter. But infinitely recurring villains are a dumb comic-book idea that makes the hero look incompetent and the villain even moreso because they keep failing over and over and over.

It would work if they didn't actually see face to face

They're both great tbqh familia

I agree. The great thing about Hamil Joker was he was actually funny and entertaining to watch. Edgy Joker is way too fuckin' cynical for a hero who dresses in a bat costume to fight crime.
Nobody can possibly top Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight
his award winning performance is one of the greatest performances ever filmed
waifu Joker > edgy Joker

I think it's fine for Joker. He just enjoys the game. Win or lose. Obviously, he'd prefer to win.
>>80536667
It makes the people who are supposed to keep the villains jailed up look incompetent.

Any recurring villains you are fond of?

I don't think it makes the heroes or villains incompetent, but the people running the prisons.

>Joker makes Bruce stand around for hours until he finds the perfect shade of blood red lipstick
>just as Bruce is about to pay Joker tells him he doesn't want it anymore
Is Arkham Joker the best balance between the two?

Yes.

As long as it's consistent with it's internal logic, I don't see too big of a problem. The Spectacular Spider-Man was great with recurring villains.
>>80536667
He'd work better if he just straight-up never got caught, and only his plans got foiled, or he gets "killed" off-panel through open ended circumstances like Moriarty in some adaptations.
Reoccurring antagonists aren't inherently shit, it all depends on how they're handled.
>>80536667
I agree in most cases but it feels... natural in superhero stories more than anything else. It'd feel wrong if some villains weren't recurring.
>>80536879
I thought the whole point of the Joker was that he isn't actually funny, he just thinks he is.

Hamil Joker went too far on the edgy side after the animation change. At the last years of the Timmverse, he was as edgy as modern Joker

Hardly
He was still very much a joker(ha), but there were more realistic stakes (mostly, people actually dying)
