Incal is a series, composed of 6 issues : black incal, luminous incal, what lies beneath, what is above, 5th essence 1& 2.
Avant l'incal is another series of 6 issues (prequel)
After incal is an aborted sequel for the Incal (1 issue)
Incal final is another sequel for the incal, since Jorodowski thought that after incal was a mistake. 3 books out of 6 have been published.

The stuff about the metabarons are spin-off, you can read them whenever you want.

In the same universes, the technofathers (mixed feelings), and megalex (awful, Jorodowski's worse). Not relater to Incal apart from some vague background ties.

I just stick with The Incal. I'm not a fan of sequels and prequels like Before and Final. But Metabarons and Metabarons Genesis: Castaka are pretty good, and take place in the same universe as the Incal.

All you need is The Incal, and if you want, Before the Incal and Final Incal. You can read Incal first or you could just read it in story chronology (Before, Incal, and Final)
