I understand him getting physically crippled and fat was just a joke for kids which while dark is at least understandable since they could find it funny but really what was the point of having his girlfriend cheat on him? That's more than just making the character suffer to entertain kiddies, they probably wouldn't understand the gravity of that and even if they did I doubt many would find it funny.
Here's hoping he has a happy ending. I entertained myself with the idea he eventually becomes a millionaire through investing in bionics and gets fixed up with cool robot parts but the writers hate boner for Josh is so immense it's probably going to end with him dying

He did grope someone, which was just part of a bigger mental breakdown. HR was handling it internally, but a friend of the victim made it public through social media and CN decided to take him off the show to save face. IIRC he now works on the show again, but not in the head position and from home.

I'm more confused at his mounting injuries.
I have no problem with cartoony violence, especially when it happens to characters that deserve it. But for some reason they went out of their way to give him permanent, horrific injuries. They're doing it in a way where we see him and think about how he permanently lost a hand, how he lost the use of one of his eyes, how he gained a ton of weight due to stress eating from constantly getting fired and losing body parts. And he hasn't even done anything wrong since the first episode. I mean what the fuck, man? Imagine what it would be like if Eugene from Hey Arnold or Jimmy from Ed, Edd n' Eddy were handled like this.

It goes beyond laughing at a character getting hurt. Are they expecting the audience to laugh at the fact that he's becoming mutilated and depressed? Is that the joke? I'd understand that in a show like Drawn Together, but it seems 100% out of place in Clarence.

The way they handle it actually varies. When he fell off the train, it was staged in a pretty funny way. But when he lost his ear & eye, it was quite dark and they made it obviously painful.
Maybe the writers dislike working with Clarence's naive idealism all the time and wanted something really harsh as a contrast? Or maybe it's simply about pushing the envelope and seeing how much grim stuff they can do to a character on a kids' show.
