I think it's more a matter of not being in school means they no longer have the obligation to stay together. Sure, they can stay together if they want, and nothing stops them from remaining friends. Character creators could be a thing. Weapon and semblance creators would be way more difficult because you would still be limited by what's already coded in game, so if you want a rocket launcher dildo you couldn't have it unless they included a rocket launcher like weapon and they have a dildo looking model there too.
Think on how you can heavily costumize your character on mmorpgs and some fighting games and 3rd person shooters, but you are limited to the premade weapons, animations, skills, or fighting schemes they included in game.

On a potentially Pyrrha-related note, I've seen a few people point out here and elsewhere that the clockwork sounds in the tower speeds up in Chapter 12 when Cinder first arrives at the top and speaks with the dragon.
However, I've just noticed that it also speeds up in Chapter 6 when Ozpin is talking to Pyrrha, just after the 7-minute mark. Which leads me back to my original skeptical position that the acceleration of the sound has nothing to do with lore, and is just a function of how the gears work.
Then again, it happens at two big plot reveals in the story, so it could well signify something.

So based on what we could see from the AfterBuzz RWBY stream (it ended early due to crashing):
- There was supposed to be a scene in Chapter 5 with Sun and Neptune vs. Pyrrha and Nora, but they had to cut it due to time constraint. Pyrrha and Nora won.
- Salem looking like the Winter Maiden is JUST a coincidence and it was not intentional.
- Torchwick was supposed to be eaten by a Beowolf Major and the Fall of Beacon was supposed to take place way earlier on, but when the show was greenlit, Miles and Kerry decided to take their time to build up the world and characters first.
- Miles and Kerry refuse to confirm or deny any character “deaths” but we are to assume they’re dead until proven otherwise/confirmed.
- When the ABTV crew were speculating that Mercury and Neo have “silver” eyes, Miles and Kerry gave each other weird looks like, “Wtf are they talking about?” Mercury and Neo do not have silver eyes, and therefore don’t have special silver powers.
- Salem was first designed back when SSSN was being developed.
- The scene in Volume 1 with Cardin shoving Jaune into a locker was written SPECIFICALLY to lead up to the scene of Pyrrha shoving Jaune into the locker so we know that students can survive being shoved inside.
- Velvet’s camera creates 3D “printings” of every weapon she takes a picture of, but she can only use the weapon for a short period of time before it fades and she has to take a new picture. This is why Coco told her back in V2 to save them up.
….And then the stream crashed and won’t be going back up anytime soon, so we’ll have to wait to hear the rest at a later date. Just thought you should all know what has been confirmed up to this point from Miles and Kerry themselves.

-Qrow can turn into a crow, not confirmed if Raven can become a Raven. After all why would someone who can teleport need to fly?
-Everything going to shit in V3 was to show that "Real life isn't a fairy tale" like Blake said in V1 and that the world of remnant is a very bad place

Here's a thought. Maybe he laughed because people are now utterly convinced that anyone can die. And that's exactly what they want.
Like, the movie Serenity, the "Ending" to Firefly. Early into the finale, they kill off two of the long-running characters from the show, but everyone else makes it out fine through the ending. But because they killed off two well-established characters near the start, it created a feeling of tension for the rest of the ending by giving the impression that anyone else could die too.
Maybe something similar is going on here?

That certainly could be a possibility. Though truth be told I really really hope they don't kill Jaune. It just would be, I dunno, extra cruel for him to die.
Like, ok I know he's a total knob at being a hunter aside from quick thinking tactical skills, and I know now they've demonstrated they're not above killing popular and loved characters, but offing Jaune would just really take it to a super depressing place.
Like it would symbolize a complete destruction of hope that a common person when faced with a horrible situation can, with the right help, effort and luck, eventually triumph over evil. Killing him would just make the show just super dark and depressing, on top of what they did with Pyrrha.
