The anime insiration and a problem with most anime is that a school setting resticts the growth of a character.
I life most people do their growing up after they leave school and they feel the weight of the world outside of that space.
In a world like RWBY where Remnant itself is vastly more interesting that any academic reseach could ever be a school setting is like a cage that resticts actions.
As far as exposition goes, musems and schools can be good for explaining certain parts of lore and logic of the world, but basing a setting and story around a school harms your ability to tell a story about the world and it's people.
Feels rambly but that's my opinion.

It's not just some super speed shit like Ruby, he's speeding up time on himself to dodge all of Cinder's attacks and catch up to her where he normally wouldn't be able to with his aged yet sexy body. There was also a theory that the green sphere he projects to counter Cinder's flame blast is like a sphere of accelerated time, so he's accelerating time (and by extension depleting oxygen) in his field to erase the fire before it actually touches him.

Blake's emotional. In case her words while she was lying on the ground with the unconscious Yang didn't already say it, she feels immense guilt for what happened to Yang, and doesn't really want to grace Yang with her presence. It's because of her that Adam showed up to exact his vengeance, and it's because she got herself in a bad situation that Yang ended up getting involved. She feels horrible about that. In addition, Adam might show up again and Blake could end up leading him right into Yang and the rest of Team RWBY, so she figures it's better off for her to sever all ties with Team RWBY before Adam comes after the rest of them.

I think what's up with Weiss depends a lot on where Ironwood is. Ironwood is kind of in charge of all Atlas, he's commander of their forces and head of their school, so he's basically top dog there. He can tell the people of Atlas "hey, there was a false flag and some crazy bint supposedly from Mistral set this all up". Ironwood cares about his subordinates, he'd do his best for Winter's sister if he knew there was a problem there.

Said this before, but I guess it does make sense for Ruby to go with the rest of team JNPR so that she could become part of the main story.
Right now, RWBY has basically no link to the main plot of Maidens and Ozpin.
They're more linked to the White Fang, who honestly don't really seem to matter in the end. Blake's link is obvious. Yang has to go after Blake and the dude that disarmed her. Weiss has the SDC plot but that seems to be linked enough to WF anyways.
I'm not sure how intertwined the WF subplot is to the Salem, Grimm and the maidens plot but at the moment they seem like seperate things.
Compare this to what JNPR has. If Pyrrha had survived, she'd either be a maiden or go after Cinder. Now that she's dead, Jaune's, and the team by extension, get a motivation to do something about what Pyrrha's fighting for or at least go after Cinder and finish Pyrrha's fight. Ren, Jaune, and Nora have enough unknowns that still could be linked to the main plot.
Tl;dr Blake has the best chance of dying in team RWBY cause she doesn't do shit.
