It made me believe in the apocalypse.

Pretty good movie, 7/10, made me worry about dying.

The early issues in particular have some really world-class stuff. I have about 70% of the issues from the first ten years of the magazine (that I scored for $1.50/ea.) and it's easily some of the best money I've ever spent on anything /co/-related.

A fucking awesome movie with a killer soundtrack, hands down. I still have the original issues of HM that had each story in the movie. Also was the 1st time I heard John Candy.

Its hard to understate just how much of an impact Metal Hurlant and Heavy Metal had on modern Sci Fi. Alien and Bladerunner in particular owe a lot to Heavy Metal.
>>
The metal wasn't that heavy but it was fun times anyways.
>>
>>79857700
I was on the same route but made me an edgelord from reading one of the late 90's heavy metal comics my dad had around based on the apocalypse and the meaning of life
>the comic was so deep to me I don't feel any emotions no more even for the passing of a family member that was close to me
What the hell is wrong with me?
>>
The movie is extremely cheesy at times. But its fun as fuck.

HEARTBEAT!

Good score! I discovered HM in '84 and was a regular reader for several years. I too prefer the earliest issues. Last month I was visiting my Mom and she has a stack of HM's from 1979 to 1985, it took me back to good times.. haven't read them in over 25 years.

I remember when I was a kid I used to dislike the stories that had no rockin' tits in them.

Now they're prolly my favorite parts. Especially the Hanover Fist one.

The 1981 movie was overall rather good. The 2000 movie was not good. The video game was actually cool. I pick up the occasional issue of the magazine and it's pretty hit or miss.

Oh god the 2000 movie was shit. I was a horny 15 year old just lookin' for some 2D titties and I still couldn't sit thru the movie to see them.

You know I don't think John Candy's voice fits the gigantic seven foot tall black guy in the Den story.

So Movieblob thinks you only like Heavy Metal cuz you were 13 and cartoon titties.

>>

I'm not trying to suggest it did well. But on paper, it sounds like it should have, comparatively speaking. Heavy Metal never struck me as a film that children can watch all the way through even if you let them. Moody set-pieces tend to bore kids. A film that appeals to kids is a film that should have put more asses in seats.
>>
>>79858144
Heavy Metal Geomatrix was also fun as hell.

I at least caught that delusion from reading conspiracy literature, but then again, I was about twice your age at that point.
>>
>>79859611
>It's literally Metal Hurlant - the English version.

It really isn't. They deliberately picked the stories that would appear edgy to their Anglo-Saxon's audience and dropped those that would not. The focus of the French, the English and the German versions are all somewhat different, even thought they all use material from the original french publication.

There was an anon who storytimed a bunch of older Heavy Metal stories around here, but the threads never got much attention.
>>
>this scene plays
>that music
>that Taarna
>that animation

>>
>>79859805
I kinda get what that anon was saying, even if he flubbed the explanation. Rock and Rule has a fairly straightforward, maybe even pedestrian, presentation to it that wouldn't be too out of place at a bigger studio. The basic jist of the movie is some friends trying to be big time rockstars, fighting an evil musician, and saving the girl. You could basically retool that to be about Max, Pj, and Bobby saving Roxanne.

Love the shit out of it. Super stoked to see Grant Morrison become the editor. I think it will give it a healthy revival and increase in quality. Been subscribed for the past few years, and reading various past issues and arcs. Fucking Requiem Vampire Knight is mental.

Elmer Bernstein's score never gets enough credit. Just listen to this stuff, it's incredible:
