I feel like the people involved in making it truly don't give a shit about the source material and that's why we still get shitty costumes, actor wanking at the expense of characters (Jlaw being pushed hard, Fassbender/McAvoy/Jackman being the only ones with substantial roles), the complete shafting of characters like Cyclops and the X-Men team being ignored in general. It's a Cirque De Solei show that's a prequel to Avatar. You know how they made everyone blue Navi? They had body suits, like the same material you'd use on a green screen suit, that were painted blue, the muscles painted on and only the actors face, neck and hands and feet were painted blue.

They can if you use modern cg with actual time, effort, and passion. Not a lot are willing to sit and work on a computer doing cg work for likely a couple months, so often people use shortcuts on the cg or use mostly practical effects to minimize the need.
