Compared to most of the shit coming out that period, I think Apocalypse looks pretty damn elegant. Especially when his design matches pic related - all blue armor, couple of tubes sticking out so you know he's high tech, those badass lip things. It's superhero (or villain, in this case) elegant.

You will get those people, but not nearly as much as you think. If this film is good then it will be recognized as good. The problem is we've been burned by WB/DC too many times now. Green Lantern was a piece of shit, TDKR was decent but ultimately disappointing, and Man of Steel was a huge disappointment and very polarizing. Meanwhile Disney/Marvel are killing it with their movies. Even their mediocre ones were at least competently made.
People are just tired of being disappointed in DC. It's like a loved one who's overweight, or struggling to keep a job, and each time they tell you they're changing and working hard, and you get your hopes up, and then a few weeks later they're back to being lazy slobs. Of course we all want Batman v Superman to be awesome. But we have to look at the Red Flags here:
