Continuing on from >>79112899
Let's try to go through at least six issues before I pass out.
Bumps are welcome, if only so I know other people are here reading.
I have no idea how Rick and Genis are both standing there.
Oh right, this woman got killed in one crazy man's attempt to become a controlled Wendigo.
I guess she may have dreamed >>79173049 but the sense of humor in this series is so odd, I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't.
And the last horse crosses the finish line.
I can only assume PAD came up with this scene after one too many "Why doesn't Superman cut Lois to pieces when he catches her in mid-air?" questions.
Well this isn't creepy in the least, is it viewers?
I'll be honest, I kinda wanna hear where that story goes.
You live in the Marvel Universe, Rick. I'm sure Superhero Insurance is a thing.
This scene is one of my personal favorite jokes in the whole run.
Yep, the little girl cutting drawing on her arm still isn't weird.
Show of hands, who thinks Moondragon fucking Phylla (and maybe Genis, I forget) is a weird attempt to get into Mar-Vell's pants?
I admit, I don't know much about Moondragon's backstory, but how can she do any of this?
I really like Drax's scenes.
This is issue 2 of the six I'm going to try to go through tonight.
i've been somewhat keeping up, please keep going to v4 , its one of the first runs i ever collected and its awesome in a weird way
>>79173649
That's the plan. Plus, a surprisingly few people actually know Phyla-Vell's origin.
Moondragon's looking surprisingly evil in that middle panel.
This right here? This is considered by far to be one of the best jokes in this run. Personally, I prefer Drax searching for Girl Scouts, but it's a close second.
I guess Genis officially went blonde after gaining Cosmic Awareness, like his father.
Oh look, more gratuitous Marlo fanservice.
Jesus, that fall could've killed her if she was, like, an inch off. She'd get Injustice-Grayson'd.
Don't tell me, more PAD Hulk? I swear, maybe I should read this at work instead of Sandman.
>>79173735
Heather has done some downright amoral shit in the past so I am not surprised if she does evil shit from time to time.
>>79174076
One of the few things I do know about her is that she killed the first Drax back in the Avengers.
Oh yeah, NOW I remember what the deal with this girl was.
>>79174102
She raped Thor too.
>>79174175
Did she actually? I remember her TRYING to, but I don't remember if she actually managed to do it before the Avengers kicked her door in.
Replacement Moot, if you're here? Can you get rid of the "buisness front" and "street name signs" capchas? Those two fucking eat.
Man, now that I know a bit more about comics than I did when I first read these, I'm liking the comic store jokes a lot more.
This issue is almost old enough to drive, so no milk and cookies for any of us, sadly.
>>79174427
Bug!
>>79174635
Phyla reads marville later.
For those of you in the cheap seats, unlike Carol Danvers or Monica Rambeau, the members of Mar-Vell's family don't actually have any superpowers, that are part of them. Their powers all come from their Nega-Bands (or Quantum Bands, for when Phyla-Vell becomes Quasar). The Nega-Bands gain power from the background radiation of the galaxy, unlike Monica and Carol, who just CAN use their powers.
>>79174590
Not just Bug, the rest of the Micronauts!
>>79174635
>>79174662
Now now, I'll get into the Marville bits when it becomes relevant. You can't talk about PAD's Captain Marvel without talking about Marville.
Well, you CAN, but why would you? That's missing the fun.
>>79174737
True.
>>79174794
Basically, I'll go into the whole "U-Decide" incident when we hit Captain Marvel volume 4.
If the gods are (un)kind, somebody will do a SoP of Marville around the time we get there, so I can link to it and say "While that was happening, PAD was doing THIS."
>>79174843
Thank you
>>79174892
This
Well hello ass shot.
Since IDW has the Micronauts rights what happens to all of these characters?
>"Is this a sex thing"?
>>79175072
Legally, Marvel isn't allowed to use them anymore, I believe. I know with Rom it's tricky drawing a line since Marvel created so much for the mythos besides the character, but the Micronauts are a bit tricky.
>>79175008
Perfect
>>79175212
The ass, or the shot? I think there's a box in the way, you know?
>>79175115
Makes sense I guess that's why Bendis moved Bug to the Knowhere corps and probably making him more GotG related can make them bring up the case that he's a GotG character and not a Micronaut.
The others are gone I believe.
As for Rom, last Guardians of Infinity there was a story that involved Knights of Galador but they looked nothing like Rom, my guess the new IDW Rom stuff will have a completely new different story.
So my trade paperback of this volume ends here. It's a 36 issue run. I've downloaded the rest of it, but I'm mentioning this for one reason.
Marvel, if you're reading this? Please release the rest of the run in trades. PAD would proably like it, the man DOES still write for you. And it's a genuinely great book. I know I, for one, would immediately buy it.
>>79175260
Credit where it's due, Bug was also a major member of the Guardians after Quill dissolved them the first time.
And DnA's Annihilators had a Space Knight in the run, who's only major character trait that I remembered was that she wanted to fuck Quasar and wasn't subtle about it.
>>79175355
Er, I'm an idiot. It ends HERE
Sorry about the delay, Anons. I was unzipping the rest of the files for the night.
Yeah, the "creepy girl" subplot is really starting to take over this Genis-Vell story.
Gotta love the one Marvel civilian who knows how this shit is gonna go down.
So, has Bendis acknowledged the fact that Drax has a daughter in his run yet?
Going by Rick's expression on the bottom, it looks like he's discovered a new fetish.
So I get that Moondragon is telepathic. She may or may not be a telekinetic, I don't remember (pretty sure she isn't). But how can she sense the future like this? Her face is normal, so it ain't cosmic awareness.
>>79175687
We're most likely going to see when the Knowhere Corps shit happens since Moondragon is with that team.
In Guardians of Knowhere he went out of his way to specify that she wasn't his daughter in the most awkward and weird way, after he had Moondragon killed off panel he had Venom get pissed about it (because apparently they were on a relationship or something, he only confirmed this on his blog but never specified it on his comic) and Rocket just goes and asks Drax "Hey wasn't she your...you know" to which Drax responds by denying any relationship with her and then he goes and gives his condolences to Venom.
I wouldn't put it past Marvel to retcon her being Drax's daughter, the new writers don't know Drax is human and treat him as if he were alien, Marvel already retconned the Maximoff twins being Magneto's kids, and in the movie Drax's daughter is someone else and she's mos tlikely dead and unless Gunn brings her back looking like Heather....
Bendis is so shit, he should just stop writing Guardians.
>>79175934
>the new writers don't know Drax is human and treat him as if he were alien
To be fair, he ISN'T human. He WAS, yeah, but now he's basically a more self aware zombie made to kill Thanos.
Or rather, some kind of Super Soldier made by a god. And if it's written like you describe, it may be Drax just going "I have no son", you know? Rejecting her as his kin.
>>79175653
Is this why Abnett has Drax talk in third person in Guardians of Infinity? Because that shit is weird.
>>79176016
No, see, for a while Drax was a complete idiot. Literal brain damage made him basically Space Hulk. This takes place around that time. In one of the prologues to Annihilation, this Drax died, and the new Drax basically was born from the corpse. Smaller, weaker, but with his mind and cunning returned.
>>79175653
>>79175687
>>79175731
D'awww ok I kind of like their relationship here, I liked them during DnA's run this is good too.
If Bendis kills this I'll be seriously pissed.
>>79176065
DnA sort of had an interesting dynamic between Drax and Phyla both bonding over Moondragon, but I don't believe they actually had the two directly interact.
>>79175970
No I mean they treat him as if he is an alien as in from another alien species.
Okay, so I'm half asleep now and I just noticed that line from last page. Rick killed a dude?
Okay, so I'm literally falling asleep between pages, this one will have to do it for the night, Anons.
>>79176048
Well he's talking in 3rd person again in Guardians of Infinity for some reason.
>>79176095
They interacted in Giffen's Annihilation and then when Heather came back they just had a few hugging moments and Drax getting protective when he caught the Universal Church of Truth people taking her, and around that point he was starting to feel a bit guilty for not being a good father especially since they were estranged.
Phyla and Drax were cute too, and then she had to die.
>Phyla and Drax were cute too, and then she had to die.
She was adorable as Quasar. There's that one page that sticks out in my head where she's buying dinner and invites him.
More Marlo fanservice. Take a drink.
Man, after what a hilarious horndog he was before being bound to Rick, it's weird hearing Genis say things like this.
So is Rick a manlet, or is Marlo a damn amazon?
>that Jack Kirby tombstone
The fucked up thing is, I can't tell which of these two situations is weirder.
So was she carrying that thing when the crazy director slit her neck, or what?
Remember this scene. It's important for a joke I'll make later.
I admit, I've been out of the dating scene for a while, but I'm pretty sure you can't, you know, "do it" with all of your underwear on like that.
Could be wrong though, I am VERY tired.
And I'm afraid I have to end this storytime right here. See you around the same time tomorrow, or hopefully earlier.
>>79176660
Thanks dude, see ya another time, I am really enjoying these.
>>79172991
You're a cool dude
>>79173959
Fucking best page.
Character at the end looks like Singularity.
>>79174928
Bumping because I for a second thought this was the X-Men/Micronaut crossover where Xavier murdered an entire galaxy's worth of people.
But then I saw Gambit, and I was wrong.
>>79176345
Marlo's an amazon. One of the reasons she was introduced to Hulk in his Joe Fixit days was her size.
>>79176345
They specifically refer to her as 6ft earlier in this storytime.
So both. :^)
Well I woke up early and don't have to be in work for a while, so let's try to fill up this topic with some Genis-Vell goodness, shall we?
I swear, every time I see lightning in a Marvel comic, I always assume Thor did it, like in that JMS Spidey book where Peter only got back with MJ because lightning clipped his plane.
So is Moondragon too proud to believe she can fall into an obvious trap, or too stupid to see it?
Take your hand off your junk, Anon. I know someone here finds this sexy. Stop it.
If you haven't been keeping up, this came up in the last topic, starting from >>9126028
Er, sorry, it's >>79126028
So this was around the time comic books were, what, $2.00 an issue? Is anybody really jumping to save 10 cents? Or were trade collections a thing yet?
No, I don't actually know what the Surfer's deal is around this time and why he's got such a stick up his ass. Anyone care to enlighten us?
>>79182341
I really should read these issues ahead of storytiming them instead of snarking at them, shouldn't I?
Remember when Nova was "that dick in the New Warriors" instead of "Space General Patton"?
Issue 10, HERE WE GO!
You live in the Marvel universe, lady. Maybe your kid's a mutant.
Seriously lady, weirder shit has happened. You can't just go "Lol, not real."
Man, everybody's treatning the dragon like shit. Maybe this is why Fin Fang Foom is so mad?
So is the Intelligencia just the Skrull version of the Kree's Supreme Intelligence?
>"What is she, learning impaired?"
Also, one thing I notice is that modern legacy heroes don't have this sort of "Other people don't think they're worthy" thing, anymore. Like, nobody refuses to call Sam Wilson "Captain America" or Sam Alexander "Nova".
Wally West wasn't called Flash by Jay Garrick until he defeated Professor Zoom. Before that, even after wearing the red suit, he was "Kid".
>"I'm super, thanks for asking."
So was that one South Park episode out yet?
Man-Thing totally saw those two doing it, and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise.
And suddenly the art gets weird.
Dun dun dun?
>>79183282
oh shiiiiiiit
>>79183420
Thanks for the bump. Now comes one of my favorite issues of this volume.
Oh hey, they got Starlin back for this. That's neat.
I could make a Monty Python joke right here.
But I'm better than that.
Another capcha I fucking hate. "River".
God damn Rick, that's kind of fucked up.
>>79183719
I miss the number capchas.
>>79183434
Oh fuck I physically own this one. Found it in the back issue bin at my LCS.
>>79183935
Well you don't have to wait for me to brute force through this capcha then. I wish Marvel would collect the rest of this run in trades.
God, that face on Mar-Vell.
>>79183773
You can switch back anytime by going to Settings.
>>79183985
Based
>>79183959
Genis needs movie first, surely.
Give him a supporting role in Captain Marvel 2. Alongside Phylla, Monica & Kamala. CAROL CORPS HO
>>79183990
No lie? That actually helped. Thanks.
>>79184032
Actually making Phyla his sister would REALLY simplify her actual backstory. I won't spoil you, but it's stupidly convoluted.
I guess in this universe, Adam Warlock/The Magus is the Avatar of Death instead of the Avatar of Life.
Given that Ewing is writing books with Carol Danvers (current Captain Marvel), Teddy (actual blood son to Mar-Vell) and Monica Rambeau (former Captain Marvel and the only one to actually meet Genis) I really hope that one day, Ewing will do a crossover between those two books that somehow brings Genis back.
If only for Teddy and Genis to interact.
Well that came out of nowhere.
Remember this page and >>79184109
>>79175115
Pretty sure this run was after they got cockblocked by copyright.
And the micronauts appeared in Son of Hulk within the last decade.
I assume theyre still allowed to use the characters, just not the team name. Expecting them for Ant Man & Wasp.
>>79183004
South Park movie was '99. This was 2000.
>>79176584
dat face on the second panel
>>79184300
And I keep on fucking this up!
>>79184131
Still don't get this. Didn't get setup or expanded upon. Was it just Starlin wanking off?
All you need to know about the Maximum Security event, for the terms of this story.
>Aliens (Shi'Ar, Kree, Skrulls, all of them) decide that earth is a dangerous shithole
>Let's turn it into a prison planet
>>79184340
I don't believe Genis ever goes back to this universe, so it's probably just an example of how that universe is different. After all, Thanos never made a "Null-life bomb".
>Galactus World Gulps
>>79184520
Good
Was Marv Wolfman no longer popular in the early 00's? I mean, it's not like Marvel can't use his name, he DID create Nova, and it's not like they don't do more direct references.
>>79184543
Thanks for the bump
Oh snap, Genis goes for the low blows!
>>79184594
You welcome
>>79184520
really don't know what to make of this art sometimes
And speaking of the Micronauts, LOOK WHO'S BACK!
>>79184568
>that stealth bird-flip
>>79184626
It's definitely something, I'll give it that.
Genis is best Vell, and Genis' Ross costume is best Captain Marvel design ever, maybe even one of the best Marvel costumes ever.
>>79184653
She's invisible and unable to interact with the world as a whole, except for talking to one redheaded bimbo. She's got to get her kicks somehow.
>>79184683
I'm biased because I don't like that volume as well as this one, but it is an amazing costume.
>>79184683
It's just a uniform tho...
In case the names didn't make it obvious Anons, the armored guy is the very same Kree from >>79114049
>>79184197
getting the power-gem instead of the Soul Gem made Warlock power-crazy?
>>79184829
>Una never became Phylla's nemesis to complete the family feud
it hurts
>>79184848
...Huh.
GG Jim.
>>79184866
We need the Vell family back, to go on space shenanigans. All of them save Mar-Vell have their own titles now, so it's not like it'd take away importance from Carol.
It looks like >>79184848 just answered >>79184340 's question. Even if it was a shitty pun, well done.
Anons, what do you think? Is Rick Jones right, or is he full of shit?
Well, right about the "Becky or Veronica?" debate, because he's clearly right that superheroes should never make public appearances.
>>79184912
Marvell can stay dead.
>>79185070
this desu senpai
>>79185070
... On second thought, yeah. I got too excited. Plus, it would rob his death of meaning.
The other two, though died like bitches. Genis in particular died because someone had a grudge.
>>79185098
I dont want marvel to ruin, starlin masterpiece, but you know it will happen.
God damn it Genis, stop thinking with your penis!
>>79185110
IIRC, Genis died because Nicieza didn't want him messed up by Bendish
>>79185110
Suprise marvel has honored starlin wishes, since he wrote that in honor of his passing father.
