If Diaz put half the effort into his comic that he does campaigning for causes on twitter he'd have been nominated for an Eisner award by now.
As it is the comic is a boring with poor paneling and worse layouts, thinly veiled fetish waifu bait (but it's okay because he says its empowering) character designs are liable to change on a whim depending on what movie he saw that week. and an update schedule that makes VGCats look topical and current. It's disingenuous and poor quality at best, at worst (and increasingly most likely) the comic only exists as a platform to give Diaz some credence of legitimacy when he whines about how terrible everyone but he is on social media.

I think at this point more people are familiar with Diaz than his comic; like me for example.
I know him as the guy who makes really ugly, lazy redesigns (except for that marble statue Wonder Woman) that miss the overall thematic points of the characters in favor of his own, "better" takes that are always peurile.
The worst was the one where he advocated making Zelda steampunk, removing the fairy tale narrative framework in favor of Game of Thrones style political thriller stuff, and turning the gameplay into a hybrid generic western RPG and cuhrayzy combat system. I don't mind that none of that is evenly remotely Zelda-esque, but I do mind that he adopted a holier-than-thou attitude in its making and declared it to be an improvement on the actual series.
Get off Twitter, Diaz.
If you put as much effort into your comic as you do your Twitter you'd have such a better comic.

i think his huge problem in that department is that he doesn't actually do any research into the topics he wants to discuss in his story. he just looks at something like ghost in the shell or deus ex and bases all his knowledge on those topics on that.

It lacks focus. Diaz uses it as an excuse to draw scenery porn, and while beautiful, I've seen people in wheelchairs move faster than the plot.
His characters are generally forgettable and the ones that are enjoyable take a back seat to whatever he's got Kimiko doing (who now only seems to have one emotion: annoyed).
His layouts need a ton of work, and his scripts leave much to be desired. Whoever said he needed an editor hit the nail on the head; Diaz has the raw talent, but it needs refinement.

People get annoyed at Diaz because he gets paid so much to do so little.
What people don't realize though is that Diaz comes from a rich family and the majority of his Patreon money comes from his parents.
This is the new thing that unsuccessful rich kids do these days. They set up charity foundations or artistic endeavours which allow them to hide their lack of success.
The real benefactors of this arrangement are Diaz's parents. When they go to cocktail parties they can now say their son is an artist instead of having to admit that he is a failure who they financially support.
The real tragedy is the naive would be artists who think that a career like Diaz's is possible without rich parents.

Everything we see influences us. When you see something cool it influences and inspires you even more. You see these worldwide trends in creative styles because creativity draws from what the creatives experience and see around them, so it's a mix of the times and what's popular in design and media and entertainment and the esteemed classics and great masters and all that.
It's inevitable that everything's a little bit derivative. The question is whether or not one can add a little something to the mix to make it seem fresh, but most basic stories and songs and melodies have been sung by now and thinking that someone could somehow create something completely original, without any influences from what has been before, is ludicrous.

Maybe I'm overly touchy about this but I hate the underlying theme "Le science is cool and good, reLIEgion is dumb and most people are stupid sheeple that need to be shown the way by SCIENCE" that he spouts without any kind of nuance (or even appreciation for actual science: in his comic, "science" usually means "cool gadgets and shit", rather than the painstakingly slow and arduous process of figuring shit out (which is a lot less glamorous). IIRC he even made fun of the idea of peer review in a bunch of strips.
The comic is also (IMO) full of pseudo-objectivist bullshit, like how society hinges entirely upon the work of a couple of individuals and everyone else are useless parasites that are only getting in the way of progress with petty things like regulations and laws.
