Where do I start with this homo's comics? I starting reading the New 52 cuz I figured it would be fresh start but it's a terrible read. Nothing is really explained about the world or characters. Plus the writing in general sucks, every panel is exposition and the story seems to be not planned out more than 2 issues in advance.

So should I read the older Stormwatch? I have to admit I only started reading because homo but so far all I've gotten from the comic is that everyone has vague powers with no clear rules so plot points and their solutions can pop in and out of existence without warning and if I want to actually understand anything I need to read the entire DC line up in order to understand the why, what, and how of everything.

Nigger, do you want to read Stormwatch or do you want to read Midnighter? If you're only interested in Midnighter's character, just read the first arc of Grayson (where he appears for the first time after the awful New52 Stormwatch comic) and then read the current Midnighter run. Grayson is not necessary, but it introduces the God Garden which is pretty important in his run. It's also a good comic.
If you want Stormwatch/Authority books, read the old ones.
