Look at Star Wars, people knew Luke Skywalker was going to be in the new one since he was teased in the trailers. Look at Age of Ultron, people knew Vision was going to be in it as he was teased in the trailers.

I'm really conflicted about this movie. I find the FOX movies generally good but very forgettable for some reason. It's too many similar and pointless scenes throughout each movie or something, and they are always promising something for Bryan Singer to ignore. It was Whedon not being able to control this thing. Oftentimes the actors have remarked that he tried to rewrite a lot on set and that he got to improvise but not the actors. Also he was just way in over his head writing AND directing such a movie. He keeps trying to complicate things and trying to come off as intellectual, but failing miserably. For example, I cringed a bit whenever Banner was listening to Opera in the quinjet. It doesn't seem at all like something Banner would listen to, but something Whedon would.
Basically whenever the committee barked he sulked and didn't try to go around it and problem solve it. So it's not entirely his fault, but he couldn't take the heat alone. Also two of his cast were pregnant/having a kid, so that threw a wrench in the works a lot. Thank god both the committee and him are gone.
