Damian was a brat, sure, but he was in no way the worst character ever created, like people kept insisting immediately and kept saying for several years. I only started to truly like him as a character when the #666 issue came out, set in the bad end future where I really dug the twisted way he attempted to be faithful to his father's mission. Before that I got that the idea was that he was so awful due to the way he had been raised and it fit the story and agreed that it worked within the story, but I didn't like him as a person.
Meanwhile, for most of /co/ it took until around halfway through Batman & Robin before most people started to say positive things about Damian.
I used to be a fan of the character, when he was written by Winick, despite not liking Winick's other works. I suffered through Jones and Daniel, and even Morrison, but I JUST CAN'T FUCKING STAND SCOTT LOBDELL'S TAKE ON THE CHARACTER.
Lobdell managed to make me actually despise the character.

I don't hate him, but I'm also mentally divorcing everything Scott Lobdell wrote from his character. I'll even take the tentacle arc over that.
UTRH and Lost Days were promising, but no-one ever gave Jason a good direction after that, so they keep re-hashing that one aspect of his character (like recently in Arkham Knight). I actually liked what Morrison did, and bringing him back into the fold as Wingman didn't seem so bad, but then New 52 happened and Batman Inc. sorta went under.
But, yeah. Mainly Lobdell for me. I'd read the shit out of Jason with a decent to good writer.

I'd generally let movies slide from the source material for the sake of drama or whatever, but the change to his forced confrontation between Bats and the Joker doesn't quite sit well with me, made him seem sloppy rather than mad. Should have stuck with Bats ricocheting a batarang around behind him while he still tried to shoot the Joker.
