ITT: Under-appreciated/unknown TV shows
copypasta from (>>>78890192) but I still think it's worth seeing.
The Legend of Prince Valiant, an animated series from the 90s on The Family Channel, is probably my favorite show of all time. It is highly serialized, violent, and achieves a depth rarely found in American animation, dealing with real fundamental societal problems and conflicts, including conflicts between politicical philosophies (!) without being preachy despite being on a Christian network.
In fact, the network imposed very few restrictions on the show, and I believe the noncommercial nature of the network allowed the show greater artistic freedom than other series based on toylines or other properties. They had no toys to sell, just a message, and not even Christianity! It is only rarely the characters go to church; the main ideology they espouse is basically American liberalism and egalitarianism lead by an enlightened king (I haven't watched it recently or really in depth ever, but I also don't think the creators thought too hard about that part either). The biggest restriction that TFN gave was they couldn't have any magic, which inadvertently made it more violent than other shows - no energy blasts, no forcefields, just swords and shields and arrows and cannons, and injury and death (!).
It is highly serialized, with multiple intertwining plotlines and dynamic characters - it was made as a family show, not a children's show. Both seasons have overarching plots, and most main characters get real arcs.
It has a female knight in training and this isn't ignored, but actually examined. There is an African knight who gets a tragic backstory and an important role, and neither of them feel shoehorned in for a diversity requirement. They are real and are flawed, like all the characters.
The animation is kind of stilted, and some of the episodes are uneven, but the main body of the show is rock-solid and has much to recommend it.
You can find it all on YouTube, along with its bitchin' intro.
I win.

That deserved cancellation
No one remembers Pecola. Which makes sense since this show was on CN for about three seconds.

>Dad was a big fan of the Prince Valiant comic strips
>He got excited when they were doing a series, he was hoping for live action but a cartoon would do
>Watch him see an episode, he suddenly gets mad that it has Camelot shoehorned in and isn't about Valiant legitimately becoming the ruler of his own kingdom
>>79050315
He was a dick at times but the rest of the cast was pretty entertaining. Maybe if this show lasted longer than a season, Chozen would not be as much of a dick as he could be and he was pretty cool at certain points of the show. But I understand the hate for him.

The cruise episode was officially the last episode of the season according to the wiki during the time it aired. The Hub already planned to kill it off. The only reason why people thought it was on a hiatus was because some idiot intern who worked on the Dan vs. studio said so on his Facebook. It died and it's never coming back, anon.

No point in bringing back the old characters when you're going to ignore the original ending and only get one or two of the previous voice actresses back.
The worst part is, I don't remember it being that bad. They played it for like a month then just cancelled it.
>>79055547
Maybe in America, but in Canada it was pretty popular.
I thought the show was pretty cool as well desu. It wasn't bad and was WAY better than what the studio would work on after the show ended.

Zig & Sharko
I really have a soft spot for this show. The plot is basically "Hyena wants to eat mermaid, mermaid's shark boyfriend won't allow it." The show's french but it doesn't have a single word of dialogue. It also has a lot of over the top cartoon violence that most cartoons don't show anymore. Also it's on Netflix's Instant.

every time i traverse a thread like this I only get more ascertained that there is no such thing as under/over-appreciation. Things get appreciated exactly to the amount they deserve and by the exact amount of people who got in touch with them. You can't demand more people liking something more just because you liked it more than the average.
Yes, there are things that get under the radar because of missmarketing but they are very rare and typically they did something to deserve it (like Idiocracy). But everything above got exactly as much attention and affection as they deserved.
>>79064953

Can't really say how it is for plot and stuff. I haven't seen it in 10 years.
I remember it being okay but it was probably the only thing on other than infomercials.
I think it dealt with "adult situations" but not sure.
The show would intercut various clips from things like music videos.
So the actual animation time was probably only about 15 mins per episode.

This reminds me strongly of Wipeout
>>79052404
how do you make a show about riding spiders
>>79056057
I wouldn't say underrated but I would say over-hated

I remember all of them. Actually, because of my use of going late to bed and nighttime programming in my country, I can't help but watch Chop Socky Chooks, Space Goofs and Hubert & Takako every single night.
I remember watching this every chance I had. I can't remember if it was actually that great though.

only episode i can remember was when they went to the gay planet where everybody was gay
and the purple alien guy had to pretend he was gay
What's that one cartoon that had that one scientist constantly say "Are you still alive"? I remember watching it alot but now I completely forgot the name of it.

I think it's The Secret Show.
>all this nostalgia
>>79051687
Fuck, I remember little weeb me being absolutely pissed of just by the very existence of this show. I was such a faggot.
>>79060983
Holds up really well. Animation is pretty solid throughout, art style is a little gross in places but that's how the original comics looked, so I guess they were just being accurate.
One of my favorite shows of that era. Too bad the original comics have never been released in English (Argentinian creators, released in Italian and French, never English). Scanlations of the first couple volumes are online though.

I used to really like this, and it ended in a cliff hanger never to finish.
It was pretty good but it should've ended after Ian won that movie award
>>79051207
I just remember there was a robot girl I thought was cute when I was younger and that this show was named after a folk song.
The rest was all kinda crap
.
>>79051687
This is probably the stupidest show I used to unironically love when I was younger. I was such a dumbass.
>>79054861
Very under-rated. One of my old favorites personally.
>>79055309
This show was the SHIEEEET!
>>79058181
I just vaugely remember this and the Krypto the Superdog cartoon.
>>79063403
This show is awesome and Nicktoons still airs it on weekdays. Always loved its aesthetic and design and the cast was all great too.
>>79065425
Didn't this show get a new season in 2014????
>>79067911
CLASS OF 3000 SING!
>>79067849
Remember it, barely watched it. I think it came on some weird time-slot or something.
>>79081023
MUCHA LUCHA! This shit was ma jam back in gradeschool. I still remember all the characters and their signature moves. Shame it never caught on though.
One of these days I'm gonna do a show on YouTube that reviews and talks about all these under-rated cartoons and see if that can get more people to recognize them.
>>79081627
The Secret Show. It also had the boss whose name was different everyday and it was always something shitty like "Ditzy Doobles" or something like that.
>>79052051
I loved this world and I actually remember quite a bit of the story. But I re watched it recently and its pretty cringe in a few places.
fuck man is 2004-2008 actually nostalgic now
>>79056057
it's actually really clever.
>>79050049
>>79050159
I've watched about a dozen episodes of each of these, not really all that interesting.
>>79060617
I liked the theme song the most
>>79062901
This show was so underrated. I loved it as a kid
