Read it ages ago. I like Azz but I thought this was not very good. Honestly though... It might have been better for the character if it HAD been successful in making comics Joker more like the Dark Knight Joker. We probably wouldn't have gotten Ow The Edge face removal Joker.
Though at the time I remember thinking this was pretty unnecessarily edgy.
I remember a mate lent me this once. I liked it. Still do. It's a good, more "realistic" take on the whole thing. Certainly wouldn't want to cross paths with this Joker. The mood swings etc. put you on edge.
Only problem is that Batman himself breaks that immersion. He seems too...silly for this world.

I know this is a great scene and all, but taking a step back and thinking about it again...
It really seems like a boneheaded move for Batman to agitate the Joker when he has someone at gunpoint. I know Jonny is a piece of shit too, but Batman would usually try to save anyone's life regardless. You could say he was trying to piss the Joker off enough that he would point the gun at Bats instead, but I'm pretty sure most hostage negotiators would say that's a no-no. Batman should know this stuff.
Then again we have the 2deep4u possibility: It could be that this is just from the Joker's warped perspective. As in, Batman didn't actually say anything at all, and Joker was going to kill Jonny regardless.

These reflections don't make sense and it bothers me.
I like it. It's a pretty entertaining take on a 'realistic' Joker. And like other anons have mentioned, the grimdark feel and exploitation-esque violence fits the universe its set in. Joker comes off a a total lunatic in it. I have no problems with that.
