i would be more convinced if batgirl was a bigger deal but she's really not as far as barbara is concerned. if they were talking about catwoman being cool or even batwoman it'd be more natural, but batgirl is just someone about their age and not even that competent.
This first part of this preview is painful to read. The bat girls are in a sorry state. I like Babs interacting with her dad though. I always felt they should play up the Gordon and cop connection with Babsgirl. It's an angle that's uniquely hers. Steph's already done the cute college girl working with a support team thing and BQM was better at writing it than Fletcher & Stewart.
I don't know why Batgirl angers me so much. There are worse comics being published, and maybe it's just because I know Batgirl *has* been good before, but I want nothing more for this comic to be turned over to a competent team.

Not who you replied to, but It's mostly just Stewart not being a that good of a writer. Fletcher's other books are better. Tarr's art (not on this issue obviously, but generally) is a little loose but she's learning on the fly. The run certainly isn't horrible outside of the Dick issue, but it's a very mediocre execution of the youthful, lighthearted hero thing. Maybe read more of them and you'll see it.

I think it just doesn't have enough substance to go with style. It's very bipolar. If it's doing doing fun, over-the-top action, it's overboard with cheesy CW drama. The characters just aren't three-dimensional. If they're not being mean and petty towards one another, they're being all sweet and huggy. There needs to be a middle ground.

I'm of two minds about this. On one hand, /co/ gets way too hateful about this. It's not that terrible.

I think the main problem people have with this book is that Babs is just so whiny. Like, every Batman Eternal thread has that one discussion we give Harper a lot of shit for whining about how hard she has it and how the other members of the Bat family need to take her aside and make her realize she doesn't have it half as bad as she think she does?
Babs whines just as much, if not more, about petty CW drama shit like her best friend's wedding or her popularity ratings online, and she even has it better than really anyone else to EVER wear the bat symbol. Especially now. She's just whiny. That's her character now.

I never actually cared about the book, not until they did my Dick dirty. Starfire literally had almost the same premise and it was actually GOOD. So I'm salty enough now that I talk shit about the book occasionally, but that's mostly just so I can remind people how shitty the team's rendition of Dick was, and now when I post it's about how much better Dick was in Starfire.
That said, of the characters that will be part of the new BoP, I only care about Steph and Cass, since the others (Babs, Harper) act like they know all their shit, and talk big to Bruce and especially Dick, and Dinah is cool but I have no idea how this team writes her.
So yeah, I'm a salty Dickfag and also happen to like Steph and Cass, and so I keep up with this book on /co/ because of that.

It had some of that, but not as bad as Batgirl in my opinion. If we're talking about the latest Dick crossovers, Midnighter #4 and #5 were probably the best at it. They didn't try to show how much better Midnighter is than Dick, it actually felt like a team-up where none of them were made to look more awesome than the other. Probably because it's a male character, with boy/girl team-ups some writers have the tendency to "prove" how much better the girl is or to emphasize the awesomeness of the female character.
Of course, it doesn't happen only when a girl is involved. Writers making the main character of the book seem super special in crossovers happens a lot. I can understand it somehow, but at one point it just gets obnoxious.

That's simply incorrect. I just got Batgirl Year One along with Robin Year One with the Comixology sale, and they're both really well constructed, cute, but not silly comics. I personally love Babs pretty much solely as Oracle, but Batgirl Year One is a fitting precursor to her mature years, and a really fun and well drawn comic to boot.
