In a nutshell: it starts off OK and quickly becomes one of the most innovative, cleverly executed webcomics on the internet. Then the bad decisions start piling up until you can't ignore them.
The story is unfinished, and worse, on hiatus. This makes everything harder to stomach, because there's a small glimmer of hope that quality will improve again, if only we can stick around during half a year's worth of silent hiatus.
There are a few kinds of response to this, from what I've seen:
-Stop caring about the comic entirely, likely move on to something else (like many have done with Undertale or SU)
-Remain a fan and be somewhat excited for the end of hiatus (requires endless optimism, trust in Hussie and/or low standards)
-Shrug it off, because you like the comic, but aren't so attached to it that it starts to affect you emotionally.
-Remain a "fan", anally devastated by the direction the story has been taking, waiting in anguish for the comic to be over so you can finally move on with your life (and, maybe, if you're lucky, be satisfied with the ending)
