That is sadly the case with Jump style Manga. They either get canceled and have shitty rushed endings over half a dozen chapters or live long enough to become unrecognizable trash. You can't really blame them because they spend all this time making a really great story good enough to get them published but eventually what they planned comes to an end and they have to keep coming up with endless content until it becomes so unpopular it gets canceled, all while still doing 16+ pages a week.
I didn't even know stories could end until I started reading books 8 years ago. I grew up on endless manga with shitty endings and comics that were just tiny arcs over and over again.

Admittedly, some manga do the long game well. JoJo manages to keep things fresh, though that's probably because they change characters for every part, so far I'm loving the hell out of Berserk, which stays good by never updating.
I think the big problem with Shonen Manga is that the longer it goes on the more powerful the characters become, to the point where anybody that doesn't start revealing secret demon heritage becomes irrelevant.
You see a similar thing happen with some Western long running comics like TWD and Invincible, though they suffer more from a problem where a lack of status quo becomes a status quo.

This is why Rurouni Kenshin is the best Shonen Jump manga. Power levels are kept to suspension of disbelief-level normal, good fight scenes that actually have lasting impacts on the health and emotions of the characters, and the series lasts only 28 volumes. Enough for all the main characters to get fully developed and for all the loose ends in the story to be tied up, but not padded past its usefulness. It was written with a clear end in mind, so it's able to keep a good pace all the way through.

I think the only other SJ maga that has not completely fallen apart over its length has been One Piece. Mostly because it set up a world Oda could fill in later.
Naruto and Bleach have fucked up because they started with limited premises they then threw out because the author could not expand beyond what he had set up, which was not much.
Compare the clumsy escalation of power level in Naruto and compare that to how One Piece completely circumnavigates that issue by making characters almost impossible to compare for the most part.
Not to mention the rise of the Strawhat Pirates from provincial nobodies to minor players on the world stage over years with an ever-expanding network of interlinked pirate crews and their fates, marine command, the revolutionary army, world government and many more.

As far as I know, outside the name controversies, the translations are fine for Jojo, and in the first two parts there aren't really any name changes, since theres not a lot of references.
