Keep Tony Stark, but bring back the aspect of the suit basically being a life support system by making him a cripple. Total body paralysis, the suit gives him mobility and acts as an iron lung. Superheroes need more handicapped representation, especially since Batgirl isn't in a wheelchair anymore.

Make Hiro from Big Hiro 6 canon on the main Marvel universe, have him wear Betamax and some times upload his mind into a bigger mech to fight bad guys.
Or have an eccentric japanese bussinessman that sells mechs and Iron-man suits (his look like Rider suits, of course). Since he is the best in the bussiness, he is capable of choosing his clients very carefully, only selling to people that deserve it, like SWAT Ironman suit for police, search and rescue suits for goverment agencies, contruction suits for big companies, and even to the odd rebel group fighting for a good cause, but he keeps all the best stuff to himself,of couse. He clashes with the Avenger since his policies about sharing tech are much more lose than Tony's and he is even making a profit out of it, but they eventually figure his is a nice guy.

Big Hero 6 was a comic which had more ties with the X-Men (due to Sunfire being the leader) that also got made into a movie (although with obvious changes, like no mutant mentions, more backstory for Hiro Hamada, who in the comics had a weirder last name; etc).

That's what I mean, BH6 the comic is so different ot BH6 the movie that it might as well not really be the same thing. And barely anyone remember the comic, so whole thing would probably have to be re-introduced, specially since we don't really know how the past decade of continuity has affected these characters.
