Normally in a setting you only have one funny guy character. In the MCU most of the characters fill that role. All the heroes fill that role. So by trying to also make Ant-Man the funny guy he just came off as a blander version of Ironman or any of the other MCU characters.

Pay attention next time.

Ant-man was good and it did good. Saying it was and did any better is a lie. It sold about as well as any Disney-backed MCU movie could hope for. You know what also did well in theaters? AoU. Just not as well as Disney wanted.

>>
>>78717833
Outside of the avenger movies, how many of them are actually nonstop quip machines?

star lord, iron man, ant man. Who else?
>>
>>78721734
Was Antman a quip machine though?

Also, I don't really remember Ironman from his first movie being too quippy in his armored scenes
>>
>>78721756
Scott was not a quip machine. His humour was more everyman than one liner. He did have the tendency to kill a dramatic moment by being funny but it fit the film's tone.

Tony is somewhat more grounded in Iron Man 1 but he's still pretty jokey. He doesn't joke much in the climax though.
>>
>>78721756
I'm giving the poster the benefit of the doubt with ant-man. I think he was an alright balance of guy who got out of jail and now finds himself having to deal with shrinking shit.

But if not funny lead is all it takes to be good then Thor should be a work of art. In his movies he usually has funny shit happen to him or the cast be the ones lightening the mood.

>>
>>78721823
Shame Thor's movies aren't that good.
>>
>>78721823
It barely had any action scenes you got the beginning then a disappointing battle with destroyer and thor

Thor 2 was better than the first imo but they are the worst movies in mcu again imo
>>
>>78721863
>Thor 2
>better than anything

Natalie Portman stopped giving a shit and phoned it in hard. The script seems like a first draft that no one bothered to fix up. Another boring bumbling human is added to the mix and we get to see him make out with Tits Dennings because that's what we want from Thor movies. And the worst villain in the entire MCU.

Thor 1 is a masterpiece in comparsion. At least it has Coulson for 2 minutes.
>>
>>78721923
I kinda wish Chris' wife was Jane instead. If there was any scene Jane felt genuine, it was that credits kiss.
>>
>>78721989
He should just be with Sif. She's actually badass and likable. Making the reason Thor has a connection to Earth be the power of boners is lame. He should want to protect it because that's a worthy person would do.

To be fair, when it was released, it made more money than most of the movies Marvel had put out to date. Not exactly "blown out of the water", but the tendency of people to conflate $700 million and mixed-to-positive reactions with "collosal flop" is a bit perplexing.

Ant-Man is wasted potential (and we don't talk about it anymore)

That's not how it works though. It's not exactly unheard of for a popular character to fall out of favor with the public. It's happened more than once to Superman.

>Winter Soldier is overrated by faggots who have never seen a action thriller in their lives

This.

Winter Soldier is a subpar spy thriller, and is literally every major film in its genre. Not to mention that the political themes in it are borderline nonsense. Government surveillance is good in theory, but only bad because of all the nazis that secretly infiltrated the government.
>>

Im agree with you 100%. One of the first things I noticed about the MCU movies is that there's always that funny lead actor. Every. Single. Fucking. Movie. It just doesn't work when they're all together. But that's the marvel formula for you, plebs like it so they're not going to stop. Age of Ultron tried to fool people with their trailer, and genuinely looked decent with it's serious tone, but it was all a lie. Expect the same with Civil War.

I'm pretty sure Cap disagrees with Project Insight from the start before he knew of HYDRA's involvement at all. And Nick Fury still agreed with Insight without knowing about their involvement. With Fury, it was an example of well-intentioned extremism - with HYDRA, it was "This is why this idea is bad."
>>
>>78727544
>Every. Single. Fucking. Movie.

Thor and Cap aren't really that funny. Iron Man and Star-Lord are appropriate for their characters, and I would say the same for Ant-Man, but I never really read any Ant-Man.

Not that I don't agree that the tone of Iron Man has affected all the other films, but I think people blow it way out of proportion. I'm hoping we saw the worst of it in AoU.

I'm giving the Russos the benefit of the doubt.
>>

Wait, bendypoots cooblesnoot came from tumblr? Or are you just throwing together 2 things you dislike to feel justified in your disliking them?
>>
>>78713200
I didn't think it would bomb but I was right about it being the lowest grossing film in it's phase.

I was wrong thinking it wouldn't get a sequel though.

The movie itself was pretty mediocre, it had some funny moments but I wouldn't have gone out and seen it if my friend didn't drag me along.
>>
>>78721012
It did great for a film, but it's performance is rated relative to the other films. It had to do well enough that it wouldn't get replaced by another Marvel IP like Hulk did. Surprisingly it is getting a sequel so it must have hit Marvel's expectations.

Project Insight went beyond just surveillance. Even without the reveal that Hydra was secretly involved it was still a bunch of helicarriers that planned to preemptively shoot people their computers decided were a threat.

Even before Hydra is revealed it's presented to be a bad idea. That's what the whole "this isn't freedom, this is fear" line was about.
