No. Korra had a lot of really good things going for it, and it had better animation and choreography than TLA.
Its biggest downfall was the story writing in pacing is pretty bad early in the show. Season 2 is pretty 'whatever' except for the stuff about the first avatar. Seasons 3 and 4 are good.

Actually it's entirely unfeasable that she would have something like that. You have to remember that they would have to build the outer shell with their bare hands, build the gun from scratch and somehow invent the powersource aswell. None of which metal bending can help with.
Then ofcourse there's the problem that the robot actually was treated as if it was practical. It could somehow maintain balance when attacked, it had enough firepower to win the battle on its own, and it had near impenetrable armour that was immune to metal bending. Just to have a chance against that thing they had to invent an entirely new mech that could fly. But that wasn't even enough, they needed another engineer "genius" to have them use plasma cutters so they could get through the armour.
The giant mech was stupid and should never have existed just like Giant blue Korra and Unavaatu.

She was born a non-bender, given every reason to despise benders and yet she did not. She also decided to sell mecha-tanks to the Southern forces to aid them in their civil war. She also secured a contract with the United Republic to fix the city. In the meantime, she invented the Airbender wingsuits and Hummingbird mecha suit.
In fact, it seems to be a trend that Asami is often harmonious with nature when it comes to her inventions. She build roads that intertwine with jungle vines. She built a flying machine and suit, and they both imitate animals that she observed. It's a running theme, and it's why I theorize that Asami's going to come up with some big new invention in the first Korra comic trilogy, from inspiration she gets in the Spirit World.

I guess she is harmonius with nature, but the city rebuild seems more like they build the city around the vines because they had to, so it would have to be a part of the planning. And, while not her invention, the old mecha suits weren't very nature friendly and she kept selling those for awhile. So i think the harmony is more a coincidence than anything else really.
I do think you're right about them showing off her "inventor genius" in the comics.
