It's me again. Here's what is probably the final animation model for that flash series I've been working on. I'm very happy with it.

>>78603300
This is coming along very well. Are you planning on using gradients and blurs on the crystal like what you're doing with the background? I feel like the clarity and contrast of the lines on the crystal betrays it's depth.

Do you just post anything here?
>>
I have no idea if I'm complicating things when it comes to sketches. I draw forms clipping into other forms for every single detail, yet I see sketches like >>78605202 where the thumbnails aren't nearly as complicated.

Do I just not understand how to draw in 3D?
>>
>>78605202
These look fun.
>>78607712
When you are just starting out you'll probably need more complicated construction. When you gain some confidence your sketching will get simpler and faster as well.
>>
>>78607151
Sure anything you're working on.

I thought the fat batwoman was funny, but I guess we only draw serious art not funnies.
>>
>>78607712
It's just practice.
The more you draw the more you internalize the initial sketch process.
Just use layers/eraser.
>>
Sorry if this isn't the right place for this, but do any of you art guys wanna hook up and take a look at some of my scripts? I'm always impressed by the talent in these threads, and since I'm trying to make my way in the small press as a writer, maybe one of you fancies working on a project together? He looks trippy.
Personally, I don't like how his feet are pointed inward.
I associate that with girls, because that's simple way of feminizing a posture to make the character look more demure and child like.
>>

You can reach me on this email: [email protected]

At the moment, I'm looking to self-publish something online, probably to the Amazon Kindle Store. It's a very short science-fiction comedy story about a cow abducted by aliens.

Also since you are actually paying, if you wanna get flooded with applicants try the DeviantArt forums too.

>>
>>78610786
I didnt expect them to work for free, I offered to pay and one of them wanted $150 dollars per strip, that's damn near the starting page rate for big 2 comics.

I'd at least understand if they were big names with a following or if it was a extremely detailed work.
>>
>>78610911
I'll do it for 50$ a strip.
What kind of style are you looking for, webcomicy Penny Arcade, generic animu, Peter Parker Spiderman newspaper strips?
Put up a strip script and what you want, and I'll draw some sketch comps, you can hire me if you like it.
It'll beat drawing furry porn.
>>
>>78610911
It depends on the panels but think of it this way.
Take there usual price. Now multiply that by the amount of panels you need.
If you have 10 panels in a page, that's 10 pictures really.
>>
>>78610911
People have their rates, it's a free market.

I'm really keen to collaborate and self-publish!

A cartoon sort of style is my only preference, but realistically I'm fine with whatever works.

The details look good, but the drawing is pretty disporpotionate/wonky. I recommend learning construction drawing for more solid proportions.

The arms look like that because she is slouching, so if you roll your shoulders up it kind of looks like you have no neck.

>>
>>78620391
You seem to understand the principal. The problem is towards the end you're forcing the perspective a bit too much. Like it seems you want to badly have the limb in a normals 3/4angles and so write around the wrist the foreshortening starts falling apart. Not that I blame you. It can be tricky.

I'm not the best at perspective either so my advice might not be the best. But the angle you've drawn the fist at is basically straight. Making it not mach the Flow of the drawing with anything tilted to the left. Also the top of the fist is facing us, the viewer making it a appear as if they're pointing their fist somewhat towards the camera. Once again I may be wrong. I'm not particularly an expert at this subject.

>>
>>78629320
You obviously need to do studies when getting gud.

As for referencing when doing finished stuff, that's up to the artist.
If you draw furry porn or comic books you can't rely on reference too much. (You can't go looking up references of bodybuilders doing triple backflips all the time.)
A regular illustrator can probably rely on drawing from ref a lot more.

A large part of the Western art tradition was the illusion of life a master painter could create.
That magical quality turned slowly into irreverent novelty as photography developed into the definitive standard for representing reality.
It's up to you to use photos, and now digital tech as part of your toolset.

2. It's a fucking doodle, m8, I mean what the fuck. Go draw 1000 more of this, seriously.
3. DON'T FUCKING POST EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DOODLE YOU EVER DRAW YOU NEEDY FUCK JESUS
4. Draw some different types of people, girls, dude, big dudes, old bitches, dogs and shit, not the same emo dark eyed faggots.
5. Work on your fundamentals, read art books, watch tuts, practice. If that shit's too hard just redraw the same fucking guy obsessively over and over until it's the only thing you can draw, ooh la la, it's you frikking "style."
6. Have fun.

That's okay, but capeshit artists drawing 3/4 head sketches in 2 minutes at conventions is the worst possible thing you should consider imitating.

1) Art takes time and thought. These portraits at cons are awful (aside of the value of "this popular artist sketched this for me") and they're entirely mechanical.
2) Drawing heads like that is something you really want to avoid to "practice" on. Draw full figures with more interesting head positions, and their hands visible.

how do you guys do it every day? I just can't bring myself to draw anymore
I hate it
there's always one guy who hates everything I do and tells me I'm garbage/should kill myself literally every time I post something
and behind him is a crowd of people who just click "like" and don't say anything else
I tired getting better at realism, and it's all too stiff
anything I draw with any stylization at all gets ignored/roasted
I can't find a fucking middle ground, and every single picture I draw looks like it was drawn by a different person

drawing makes me want to kill myself, but it's the only thing I'm even half good at

>gets ignored/roasted
You can be a social media whore or just take your time to fuckin' improve m8.

I know we live in the PLEBbook, TWATter age and shit and half of you wee lads know nothing else, but face it, drawing is just another skill that must be learned, line by line, image by image.
There is no SHORT CUTS, no magic formula, no easy way, only brute force attacks, day by day.
It's a siege, not blitzkrieg.

Can you imagine a musician posting 200 videos of themselves strumming first chords they learned?
A writer filing up their blog with two paragraph beginnings of unfinished stories, and whinging about not getting enough positive feedback?

YOU WANT FUCKING UPVOTES, YOU WANT LIKES, YOU WANT RETWITS AND "FANS?"
PLAY THE FUCKING GAME, DRAW THE POPULAR CHARACTERS, FOLLOW DANK MEMES, CREATE DRAMA, HAVE GARBAGE OPINIONS ON TRENDING SHIT.
REBLOG, KISS ASS, ALWAYS FUCKING SMILE, "HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND"

Look, we draw, we create, and doing so we expose ourselves to ridicule, shame, and fear.
But there is hope, joy and love, in sharing ourselves with the whole world, it's like those fucking sea turtle eggs hatching on the beach, each little fucker bumbling his way to sea, to home.
It is the chance we all take, in life as in art.
Remember you are not alone, it is a journey a hundred thousand have taken before and a hundred thousand will in future.
The only person you are competing is yourself.

I'm out of cliches, I'll bump this bitch out of page 9 now.
>>
>>78656979
Draw for yourself, friend. It might be better for you to stop posting for a while and study on your own. Handling criticism is something you can't avoid, but if it's making you hate your art it can't hurt to shut yourself off from it a little.
What's important is that you can appreciate your progress because you can see it more than anyone else.
>>
>>78652568
So, basically never post anything ever again until I won't be abrasively and non-constructively criticized?
>>
>>78659946
>abrasively and non-constructively criticized
I'm afraid, this will never not happen, to anyone, least of all on 4chan.

What's he'd saying, whilst being an ass about it, is for you to get some more experience under your belt, as it were.
Might I suggest you draw, let us say ~10 more figures and post the best one here again?
Or perhaps a collage of recent work all together so we may better judge your work in context.

Showing improvements between works, no matter how minuscule, may be far better conducive to encouraging further practice than one single drawing.

Type in Gumroad on a torrent search engine.

There are a ton of good shit on youtube as well, just search for the type of art you wanna learn about and don't forget to watch x2 faster for longer vids.

They sketches look good, maybe you wanna brush up on your line-work before going to colors, but looks like you wanna paint more then draw, you might wanna look up "speed-painting."

The Elvgren set demonstrates well what using references is about. He didn't simply copy a photo or even copy the pose. He used the reference to better understand his subject matter and then used that knowledge to create the picture.

>>
>>78679074
Download Paint Tool Sai, it's like 10MB. like nothing, and try it.
It retards & delays the brush strokes and evens it out so you can achieve finer lines on a tablet without nervous hand jitters.
It's excellent for inking.
But it also slows your pace IMO, I prefer my own fast raggitty lines to a smooth one.
>>
>>78679019

have you seen how David Finch and Freddie Williams use photoshop with their Cintiq to digitally ink? is that because of lazy mouse? currently i have to bring everything into Manga Studio in order to get clean lines.

that, or print it out to scale, and lightbox it and ink it myself on board.

It was stuck at ~2008 era PS for a long time.
>>
>>78680250
But is it on the level of other free art programs like Sai?
>>
>>78680387
Sure, I guess.
But I wouldn't recommend it over Sai as a drawing/painting app.
It is, like PS, meant for photography.

Sai, or Kritas, or Manga Studio is far far better in comic book art creation than Gimp or even PS, though of course PS has since become a monster with Adobe shoving everything in that already bloated beast.
Sai isn't free, btw, license cost like $50.
>>
>>78680387
All the top tier open source apps, Gimp, Inkscape, Blender, etc, they are EXCELLENT.
But to get a job you need to know the industry standard and that's Adobe and Autodesk.

Why does the model change so radically with each expression? They all look like separate cats. At least when bugs Bunny pulls a face you can tell it's still the same character. Decent work though.
>>
>>78682083
If you mean Pixel Art, for doing game art and animations, the best would be Graphic Gale, though most people use PS for that these days since the trendy hipster indie game art isn't very detailed.

Sai, Krita, or manga studios was developed for higher resolution print illustration, you can use it for pixel stuff perfectly fine, but I'd rate PS, Gimp, and Graphic Gale (and other dedicated pixel art apps) because of their wider functionality.

You might also want to check out Mischief, it's a vector based resolution independent drawing/painting app.

Looks pretty cute. Reconsider the size of things for the next BG. The sky could take larger space (unless you aimed for a more cramped, intimate feel for this screen). Are the mine-hill-things ideal size? You know the best. The sign is bit too big, I think. Also I'm not really fond of the text. It looks like it's hand drawn (did some character use a giant brush on it?) Maybe the text could be bolder.

Looks pretty refined. The hair and top look good, but the shadowing on especially her legs seem rather bland. Add more light or darker shadows for contrast.

A good way to see the values since the beginning is by filling the base layout with gray.

Thanks for the advice. I've been trying to use more hatching to do my halftones. Should I just make a layer with a grey fill or make a layer that has enough hatching to be a grey fill?
