I honestly enjoy the 2003 Clone Wars series more than any of the live action Star Wars films.
>>
So do I, anon. I like Rebels more than any movie too. I kind of find the movies nearly unwatchable desu.
>>
>>78600699
No Finn and no Poe

Of course Clone Wars are more superior.

bumping because I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks this way
>tfw there will never be another Star Wars series in this art style
>tfw Stars Wars Rebels animation looks like rounded blobs compared to this masterpiece
>>
>>78600699
Reminder that George Lucas intended it to be canon, but Disney still retconned it.
>>
>>78600699
The important thing is that the CGI cartoons are worse than Ewoks.

elaborate anon, I thought all the shit that took place in the clone wars series was made cannon in episode III?

>>78600932
not this
>>
>Fordo isn't canon
Fuck you Disney
>>
>>78600904
No, Lucas himself made it lower tier canon long before Disney bought Lucasfilm. That's why he made The Clone Wars series, to take it's place. He was dissatisfied with Genndy's series because it strayed too far from what he wanted.
>>
>>78600887
>the realization that the films will never have a duel as good as the one between Anakin and Asajj
>>
>>78600978
I think the thing that sealed Genndy's Grievous as being way better than Luca's Grievous wasn't even how fucking cool he was in a fight. It's the fact that I can listen to Clone Wars Grievous talk without having to stifle a laugh from hearing a stupid fucking "fake foreign" alien accent.
Seriously, what the fuck was up with Lucas and giving all of the prequel aliens weird, vaguely offensive accents?

I may not share the exact sentiment, OP. However, I will admit that I was always more intrigued with the "war" aspect of Star Wars more than the jedi or alien aspects.

Reminder that both the Animated and the CGI Clone Wars are completely timeline and canon compatible.

The Entire CGI series took place place in between the time Anakin becomes a Knight and the time when Anakin was a Knight without an apprentice:
>1:20:20
>1:23:00
Thanks to Ashoka leaving and the CGI not touching the start of EP III
>>
>>78600699
Fuck man, this was the shit. I remember how fucking good this was as a kid and would stay up at night to see the latest episode.

Also, Grievous was a scary motherfucker firat time I saw him. I was amazed yet terrefies how he took on a gang of jedis by himself. Fuck, I am sure people were confused as fuck when they saw General Grievous and why the fuck he was coughing when they went to see the third movie.
>>
>>78600699
>tfw Genndy will never be brought back to make a Republic Commando series

It was a brilliant episodic ad for Episode III. Can't believe it exists at all.

Why was he such a weak shitter in the CGI show?
>>
>>78601577
It does, but they said Durge is non canon so they just pick and choose what comes out of the first series.
>>
>>78603175

I don't know.

He was godtier in the show with an amazing concept but I guess they had to dumb him down a lot for the movie.
>>
>>78601360
when he showed up it was like something out of a horror movie
>>
The 2003 clone wars cartoon was one of the things that got me into star wars.

I'll grant that it was way too hardcore to serve as 100% canon, though. As an exaggerated tale of past events sure, but this is like star wars as-told-by-platinum-games

>tfw grievous will never be this cool ever again
>tfw in the comics he beat asajj and fucking durge 2v1

The only thing that disappointed me about the nightsister arc was that it was a chance for ol' Grievous to regain some of his heavily waning dignity and he just goes down like a punk again.

I liked it, but it felt kinda rushed. 2008 TCW had a lot of good episodes and those clone episodes were awesome.
>>
>>78604361
Name not related.
>>
I consider the 2003 series more canonical than the CGI series because it actually segues into Episode III (so I accept its explanation of Grievous's cough).

The CGI series is more interesting but the 2003 series is the one I regard as "this is what happened".
>>
>>78600904
No, he intended for it to be canon along with TCW, but later changed his mind about halfway through its run.

It was planned to do the same thing with the 2008 series, you can even see in TCW Legacy that Anakin has Episode 3 look. But Disney cancelled the series.
>>
>>78604377
There's no reason phase 1 can't be since Anakin is still a Padawan.

However it does truncate the hell out of the CGI series (although the CGI series is pretty liberal with time in general since Obi-Wan and Anakin are everywhere in the freaking galaxy through its run).
>>
>>78604369
I'm kind of the opposite. I love the shit out of the 2003 series, but it just feels less grounded and plausible than the CGI series. I know, Star Wars- but really, look at the shit Grievous does alone.
>>
Also, to accept the 2003 series as canon it would mean Asajj Ventress's role is either cut terribly short or her presence in the CGI series is very confusing.
>>
>>78604450
Well she didn't flat-out die, she just fell into a deep, dark pit. People survive shit like that in fiction all the time.
>>
>>78604512
Not so much of "how did she survive" but rather why everyone's so casual about encountering her. They're always like "oh, it's Ventress again", as if they see her all the time.
>>
>>78603175
George Lucas cannot write threatening villains.
>>
>>78600699

>>78605189
George Lucas didn't write Darth Vader or the emperor. His involvement in the original trilogy was purely "Hey, look at this crayon drawing I did" and then other people fixed it for him. The only movies Lucas had complete control over were the prequels.
>>
>>78601275
Short answer?
The VA that did GG in the film was a sound designer that read the lines coughing like George Lucuas did at the time because he had a cold.
That's how George made cast picks
And it's not even the worse of them
>>
>>78601577

But what about Grevious' cough, anon?
>>
Tartakovsky's series got me into Star Wars. I had watched the Episode I and II movies but I couldn't understand what wwas going on, it didn't help that they used terms and concepts that seemed like taken from a history class.
But Clone Wars made me and my friends hyped for Episode III, and I watched the original trilogy in preparation.
I remember being mind blown when I saw Grievious in live action during the trailer, and I was heartbroken when all those jedis died at the end, since I saw them in this series.

I love how this whole fight is already a "oh shit" moment, but then when they later encounter him again you're thinking "oh hey they can actually hold their ground against him this time"...and then he unfolds his second pair of arms. Biggest "oh shit" moment I've had in recent times.
