>>
>>78586484
Seriously was there anything about the KOTOR comics that wasn't good?
>>
>>78586629
Yeah I can kind of see it ending prematurely. Though I wouldn't really mind it since 1: the creators would know 'hey Disney is going to cancel this show in a season so lets go ahead and resolve the story' so it probably wouldn't end like TCW did, and 2: Disney would probably make them produce a grittier show in the vein of TCW set around the ST (which is what I want because I'm tired of seeing OT shit).
>>
>>78586713
The only thing I can think of was the Son of Dathomir comics set after season 5 of the clone wars. Maul is featured now and then in the Darth Plageius book as well

Ming is a tough one, as there aren't many well-known asian actors in the right age (who are still alive...). Jackie Chan, maybe?

Flash Gordon is an easier fit. You'd need someone (relatively) young and optimistic, who can go hardass without coming across as too evil. He also can't be a muscle slab ,either. DiCaprio, maybe?
>>
>>78586762
The show is perfect for the typical viewer of Disney XD, they wouldn't get rid of it for it being "bad" to adults. I very much doubt Disney would have them do something grittier for the ST on one of it's channels. The problem with that is, it would take well over a year to even see the show because new assets need to be made, new voice actors brought in, story decided and what not. By then we will have Episode 8 and that might answer some time skip questions, for all we know.

Well Jedi aren't supposed to have connections to their parents, so no one like Qui Gon was going to go back to get her. Certainly the council would've put their foot down if he tried. DiCapio or Arnie hammer would work though you know they'll pick channing Tatum or jacob from twilight for the muscle.

For ming it would depend if we stick to older or take a risk with a younger actor. If older I'd go with Jackie, Donnie Yen or Min-sik Choi. Younger I'd go with Ji-tae Yu and Byung-hun Lee because they were intimidating as hell in Oldboy and I saw the Devil.

Freeing "all the slaves" sounds easier than it is. It's legal on tatooine, and watto ain't gonna go cheap at that point in time. The Jedi aren't going to start an illegal uprising on a sovereign world, it's not the clone wars just yet. And they aren't going to force anybody to pay tens or hundreds of thousands of credits to buy her from a desperate and scorned watto. People need to remember, Lucas wrote 1-3 like you'd do far an rpg setting. You have to look at it like a functioning setting, not just a movie, or you'll go fucking insane trying rationalize what's going on. Now whether or not that was a good idea is another issue entirely. All I'm saying is, Anikin as a hothead would not just let this go as long as there is some way to get her to safety
>>
>>78586518
I've been wondering that for a long time. The Jedi, I imagine, wouldn't do anything - though Qui-Gon would most likely have if he'd survived Naboo. Padme, however, should have told her people about the brave and generous woman from Naboo who let their queen into her home, fed her for free, and risked her own son to raise the money to fix their starship so she could continue her mission to Coruscant. The woman they ultimately left alone, except for a naked droid, after they took her son away.

When I asked TCW threads the general response is Padme was a bitch. Hard to argue against, really. She didn't even have to use her own money, she could have started a fundraiser for the woman who, along with her magic son, saved their world. Probably did and used the money to buy herself a cozy senate seat.

He was 9 years old, remember. In his mind, he'd return when he was done with Jedi training and free her and the other slaves, only doing so when he "knew" he was able to. If he tried and failed she'd likely be punished.
And like I fucking said;
>The Jedi aren't going to start an illegal uprising on a sovereign world, it's not the clone wars just yet
That includes paying someone to do the dirty work.
>All I'm saying is, Anikin as a hothead would not just let this go as long as there is some way to get her to safety
And that's exactly what he did, and well before he was done with his training no less. It was a risk from his own perspective even with all he learned.
>>
The Midichlorians are actually kind of brilliant. I mean, I'm sure George didn't actually plan it this way, but it shows just how militaristic the Jedi had become and how far gone they were from being mystical peace keepers.

Instead of a demonstration of skill, they'd rather take a blood test to see "how Jedi" a kid was, which the Clone Wars revealed didn't really actually show anything.

There's no indication that Qui-Gon considered this a test of power, or even power potential. The Council sure as hell didn't because they still tested the boy using flash cards like the early scene in Ghostbusters.

The midi-chlorian test seemed like it was done by Qui-Gon more to show that the boy did indeed have something very strange about the kid. If anything it supported the "vergence in the Force" element if THAT many midi-chlorians were saturated through his body.

Focus and stuff, you're meant to be concentrating on keeping the peace and meditating. It's hard to do that when you're worried about your wife and kids... As you saw with Anakin that can lead to trouble.
>>
>>78588662
Attachment is shown to be a very big weak point for Jedi, both in the movies and in TCW. It's what helps Anakin down his path, because of his mother, Padme and a lesser extent Ahsoka. Obi-Wan with Satine as well, even though there was nothing full blown about them together.

He was really impressed by the man. He treated Luke super nice, taught him about the Force and gave him a lightsaber, the two things that connects him to his father he never saw. He also saved Luke's life a few times.

Don't ask that again.
>>
>>78588915
He was a good friend.
>>
>>78588857
Did you play KotOR II? The Jedi were nearly driven to the point of extinction in that game.
>>
>>78588662
A large amount of it is their spiritual philosophy. They believe that the Jedi should eschew personal wants and desire and devote their entirety to their mission of preserving the peace for the galaxy. They dedicate their lives to others, sacrificing much of their personal lives instead. It isn't to say that the Jedi frown on love. They just want it in the general sense. A love of your fellow sentients.

It also has a practical purpose. Attachments, deep connections between two beings, while a grand and lofty thing to be appreciated, is also a fairly strong path to the Dark Side besides being a distraction from their overall goal (and we saw Anakin distracted more than once when his friends or especially Padme was threatened). The problem with the Dark Side is that when a personal love is threatened it risks the emotional integrity of the Jedi. Anakin is an extreme example of this, but his passions ran deep.

Some perspective. A very good reason to keep padawans from forming attachments is imagine what Jedi highschool would be like.

>"Tee'Qa no longer wishes to attach at the hips anymore. She's going with Bee-rad now because he has a higher midi-chlorian count, a shiny sports speeder, and also a greater saber blade width. The world is pain and misery. I'm off to Hutt Topic to buy a red lightsaber crystal and stick-on Sith tats, then I'll show them all!"

Emo and Force powers are a bad combination.

Adult's aren't entirely immune to this. Obi-Wan was tested hard when Maul killed Satine. It's a key mark of his character that he had the willpower to control his emotions and didn't go full-Anakin, as Maul had hoped. Obi-Wan remained true to the Jedi ways, but it took a supreme level of control and ability. Still the fact that he was on Mandalore at all just because of Satine illustrates the problem since the Jedi and Republic refused to intervene.
>>
>>78588915
He claims he knew his father. He taught him while they were on the falcon. First time they actually met Obi Wan saved his ass from the Tusken Raiders. He was there when he came home to the burning ruins of his uncle's house and their smoking corpses. He chopped that one guy's hand off when he threatened Luke.

Even though it is never specifically spelt out, the moment Luke's family dies Obi Wan instantly becomes the most important person in Luke's life. With his family's death there is nothing to hold him back from pursuing his dreams of joining the rebellion. Obviously Obi Wan is also the right guy to help with that since the Rebels came to him out of all people and asked for his help. And as I mentioned he is the only connection Luke has to his old home and even his own father at that point, even though Obi Wan is somewhat cryptic about what he tells Luke.
Still, it stands to reason he'd be distraught when he died.
>>
>>78589040

>>
>>78588662
There is a practical consideration. Although the KOTOR Era is non-canon these days they illustrate the problem of Force Dynasties. We know the Force runs strong in families. The Jedi give up their family in favor of the Order. This helps free the Council from the potential bullshit politics of powerful Force families clinging to seats/rule over generations. They don't want people dedicated and loyal to anything but the Order itself.

Otherwise the Jedi are surprisingly lenient about "rogues", people who don't always listen to the Council but follow their conscience and the Force. As long as you don't break any major rules or go Dark Side, and continue to act in ways the Jedi Council can understand, even if they don't sanction or necessarily appreciate, they nevertheless tolerate you. Seems like the idea of attachments fostering outside loyalties and especially distractions from the Jedi path that is their key reason for "excommunicating" people. The can tolerate a LOT of shit, especially to Council Members. Consider Qui-Gon and his "just trust me" fuckups. Dude got Jedi killed and was stuck with probation (more, no doubt, to keep an eye on him) but even Depa Billaba still seems to have something dark in her past. Or maybe just traumatic. They're still being kind of coy on the matter.

In a perfect world you could let Jedi have lovers because they would have strong enough training that it wouldn't interfere with their role as galactic peacekeepers. However, the Jedi have to train thousands of sentient beings to cover the entire galaxy so a standardized set of simplified rules was put in order. Easier to just say, no attachments then allow some attachments and constantly having to deal with Jedi that can't handle them.

In the end of TCW, Yoda is explicitely told by force creatures far more powerful than him that his PoV is small and limited, and ultimately incorrect.

>>78589105
The Jedi Code isn't perfect, nothing is, but it was time tested. It wasn't their Code that brought them down, it was Sidious' manipulations, and Anakin's secret attachment. It's not even the fact that it was secret that was the problem. If his marriage had been open the Jedi still would have advised him to accept her potential death and rejoice that she becomes one with the Force. Anakin STILL wouldn't have been able to accept and Sheev could still have used saving her as a hook into Anakin.

The "no attachments" rule is actually a pretty savvy admission on the nature of sentient beings. We form deep bonds to individuals but when those bonds are at risk we typically suffer greatly on an emotional level. If you are Force Sensitive this kind of instability is very dangerous. Sadly everything from from your wife being at risk of dying to your child to your best friend can be a threat to yourself. The kind of self-control Obi-Wan showed is admirable because of how difficult that would be in such a situation.

Its not just the planet ecology its also the inhabited places on the planet. The Jakku salvager place didn't look too different from the tatooine you saw in Hope. I mean somehow PT Tatooine managed to look less like Tatooine than Jakku did. Then Maz's castle looked neat on the outside, but the inside was just a mash up of Jaba's palace and the Mos Eisley cantina, and apparently Leia dug up old rebel base plans because that was similar too.

I actually wouldn't mind going back to old planets just as long as we got to see different parts of them, or how they've changed over the decades.

Probably to avoid getting the people they care for killed or used against them.

But the thing is they end up being more callous and cold that way.

I get that it technically fits, but at the time he wrote the script, Lucas clearly intended it to be the first time since episode 2 (don't even try to argue this), since TCW was made after the saga they (including George's revisionist self) should have thought to not cheapen that scene.

Why did Kylo turn to the dark side? Leia says he has too much Vader in him but the main reason Anakin turned was to protect his family even if his intentions were incredibly misguided. Kylo abandoned his family so obviously his reasons weren't the same as Anakin.

That wasn't the only reason. He also thought the Republic didn't work and people should be forced to solve problems by an Empire. Based on Hux' speech the entire First Order vehemently defends the idea that an Empire is perfect and a Republic is a failure. He probably saw senators doing fuck all to help people after the war and that along with Snoke grooming him made him want to bring back the Empire.

It's from /Film's article about changes during production of THE FORCE AWAKENS.

http://www.slashfilm.com/force-awakens-changes/

>Rey was originally "Kira", a hotheaded mechanic who worked repairing old spaceships alongside her surrogate father, an old Republic pilot, among them the Millennium Falcon. She was desperate to leave Jakku and already displayed Force-sensitivity, improving on her abilities with Luke Skywalker's guidance.

>Finn was originally "Sam", a charismatic former Stormtrooper who is an expert marksman and nature-born leader with a history of insubordination leading up to his defection upon witnessing a group of captive Rebels being airlocked out of the Star Destroyer. He was white.

>Poe Dameron was originally "John Doe", who was originally a Jedi, then a bounty hunter with a Wookie sidekick, then a military man affiliated with the Resistance. He'd die in the TIE Fighter crash. He was black.

>Kylo Ren was originally "The Jedi Killer", Darth Vader's apprentice trained to slaughter Jedis and obsessed with killing Luke. At different points he feeded off of sun matter and had a torture droid as a companion.

>Starkiller Base was originally "The Doom Star", built on planet Dantooine, built inside a volcano and powered by geotermal energy.

>John Doe simply ditches Sam in the desert after he escapes, and Sam runs into an indigenous tribe that performs a ritual to heal his wounds so he's "reborn a hero".

>Maz Kanata was originally the leader of the indigenous tribe on Jakku, then the owner of a bar on "Crime City" where the heroes find Han Solo. She was also supposed to a puppet.

>Rey would originally retrieve the map to Luke's whereabouts from the submerged remains of the Death Star using the Millennium Falcon and her scavenging abilities.

Resistance only has X-Wings because it was formed from the ground up with Leia. They were even poorer than the Rebellion was, and they could only afford crap X-Wings (T-70s) while the NR had the latest model (T-80 or so). The rest they had to build from scrap parts or they got as pity donations from Senators with ships to spare. The entire NR fleet got destroyed around Hosnian Prime, so all the bombers they may have had to send emergency help to the Resistance were blown up.
>>
>>78590423
The Sith can't live after death. They strive for immortality but have never achieved it. They are captivated by the physical realm.

The only ones who have are the Jedi, starting with Qui-Gon, who was learning from the Force Priestesses.
