Kung Fu Panda was a good movie. Kung Fu Panda 2 was a great movie. Yet it seems like most people think Kung Fu Panda 3 will be pretty bad. It seems to be playing up the wacky pandas too much, and the villain is a big step down from Lord Shen. With Zootopia's trailer dropping today, Zootopia has all of the buzz and momentum even though it coems out two months later.
Will Kung Fu Panda 3 be a disaster? January is typically a bad month for movies.

The problem is that Dreamworks makes shitty trailers. The Chinese trailer was much more in line with what I typically expect from Kung Fu Panda.

Because Chinese audiences LOVE kung fu panda.
The movie ratio only allows for one morbidly obese character. Any more than that and it starts to drag down the movie.

The villain is more interesting (mostly by virtue of having more screentime), the character arc is a little less stock, and the cinematography takes a step up. It's just a more elaborate film overall, without losing the qualities that made the first enjoyable, so it's considered better.

I like Tai Lung way more than random albino chicken prince. 2nd one's all MUH PROPHECY, army of wolves for some reason, and cannons. Tai Lung was pure rage and actually had a decent reason to come after them.
