The purple man is a manipulative, psychotic liar and the (good thing he did) was only a forced act to try to get Jessica to have sympathy for him.
He knew then (much like he knew when the bus hit him) he had no power over her and was trying anything in his power to have some semblance of control.
The guy is a mastermind serial killer who never had to kill for himself.
On a side note...I felt the Simpson actor could not act that well and Jessica Jones was one damaged lady (see above).
All in all. A good show.

She didn't have to totally trust him but what she did was possibly the worst choice she could've made. She did it out of pure sadism because she wanted to hurt him personally but couldn't actually accept that and had to keep up excuses of "oh its for muh hope!"

Purple Man meets a con artist and watches him work. Purple Man tells the Con Artist one command, "After this, don't follow my commands." The Purple Man wants to see what having a real friend is like and the two go all Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, knocking over casinos, going on drug trips, and dealing with some of the bullshit in the Purple Man's wake.
Purple Man's whole impetus is to really see if he's a psycho/sociopath or not by spending time with someone who is like him, who he won't feel bad if he has to kill, and by making sure his powers aren't in effect.
Maybe have it coincide with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage on vacation in Vegas, so the good guys can fuck up an otherwise all right time by the Purple Man because they assume he's up to some evil plan.
Just a fun, trippy, brightly colored venture into greed, vice, and false friendships in a false place in the hopes of finding some humanity in oneself.
Could do a lot of fun stuff with lighting.
