I see people using the "Cultural Appropriation" argument, but it's not applicable both in-universe and in real life.
1) Marvel didn't create Danny to have a lead to a Kung-Fu based comic without an Asian lead. Shang-Chi: Master of Kung-Fu created a year before Danny had well over 100 issues, Iron Fist IIRC couldn't even get to 30 issues before he was facing cancellation, and paired with Luke Cage. Sun-Lin, the Chinese-American leader of the multicultural "Sons of the Tiger" was also created during that era.
2) Danny isn't a "stranger in a strange land" in K'un-Lun, at least not after the first few months of this life there. He is a visual outsider, though. He was raised there since he was nine. It's when he comes back to America, that he's a 'fish out of water', when he returns to America to avenge his parents he's culturally K'un-Lunian. And, you can't 'appropriate' your own culture. American culture and modern day technology is something he needs to readjust to.
He's a white kid who grew up discriminated against, but when he comes back to America he realises what he forgot, as a WASP he had every privilege under the sun. I could see some interesting conversations to be had about privilege between Luke and Danny.

I think it could be fine if people wrote several detailed posts about the character of Danny and his exploration of "White Privilege". However, this is the same US-Centric Tumblr that finds it a) Impossible to separate Culture from race and b) Thinks it's impossible to be racist to white people, using the Racism= Power+Privilege equation. Many if not most of them were created with racial stereotypes back in the 1960's, 1970's, and even the 1980's. Maybe it wasn't the intent of the writers and artists to depict them that way, but there are unfortunate implications.

I'm sympathetic to the "Danny should be asian" arguments from some people because it probably is the only opportunity there is for a main asian superhero.
It's also an opportunity for asian male lead, if kung fu has to be the way then so be it.
Danny Wu actually talked about this a bit and how hard it was for them to get Into the Badlands picked up with an asian lead, much less one with a romance interest that's nonasian.

There was a thread on /tv/ yesterday (before it devolved into racial bickering) about how Hollywood doesn't really care to portray Asian actors in meaningful roles.
It all boils down to US audiences being uncomfortable or at least indifferent to the idea of an assertive Asian male as the lead. Iron fist story all depends on him being an underpriviledged class while at Kunlun, and once returned to america, finding himself in the most priviledged position of all being white and rich as balls.

Because hes not going to live off his priviledge while others suffer. He's the only story that actually require him to be white, so that he has all the cards once in America and has the option to walk away.

I think the best thing that can come out of this whole argument is bringing to light the real issue, that despite their long history of producing comics and comic characters, Marvel has very little options for Asian characters. Heck, I can only think of three of them, and two of them are mutants and will never get to be part of the MCU.
