There is just a time and place for them and at the same time, it takes away from a different theme/message which is FRIENDSHIP. Friendship is strange because it's one of the few relationships humans have that isn't based on attraction. I think when you put attraction in the equation by implying their gay, it cheapens the platonic and genuine bond they have as friends because it implies someone just wanted to bone someone.
Friendship is a real, powerful thing we all can experience and relate too. The story of Cap and Bucky involves friends having a falling out of sorts. Nothing hurts more than seeing your best friend turn against you... I'm going through this right now. I'm losing my best friend to his own sooo busy and sooo important life and it's breaking my soul. We've been friends since 5th grade and we're about to be 30.
Why can't that just be the story? Why does it have to be romantic? Not every story is a romance.
