In many ways Tangled felt like a newer movie. The CG somehow looked better, even though it was more advanced in Frozen. Rapunzel is a world more expressive than Elsa and Anna. I felt the story was better and while the songs didn't jump out at you right away, they were all amazing. Menzel sang Let It Go in a really touching way or something like that, and it just clicked in the WDAS team's minds and they decided that ooh Elsa should be a more gentle character, a prisoner of fear, a victim of circumstance. Everything this anon said. Frozen is so poorly written and went into production way too fast. The plots they were working on originally are leagues more interesting. The lighting and animation in the film are garbage. Elsa's ice castle looks like cheap colored plastic, and her Ice Queen dress is so horrible looking from a design standpoint. It is realistically, not flattering and does not fit the rest of the film's aesthetic.
Both sisters are completely under developed, the troll things were unnecessary. Music did not get integrated into the mood of the movie that well (think of how in theater productions the music is used with visual cues for added bonus. Frozen did not do this at all). They kept repeating that annoying "wait what" and akward dialogue. It is, all around, a very shoddy and immature movie. I could go on and on about what a horrible example of a movie Frozen is, yet it is the most popular and marketed Disney feature film that has been constantly shoved in our face for the last two years.
Tangled on the other hand, was more all-together solid. That's not to say it is without its problems, but compared to Frozen it is leagues more well done. They put a lot of time and love into Rapunzel's personality, the enviornment, and the film itself. Rapunzel is also a much better role model for kids than either Anna or Elsa. It's a shame because Frozen should have focused on the more interesting character, Elsa, who was obviously dealing with some heavy issues. Instead we get lol so randum Anna who was incredibly selfish and immature. Tangled dealt more with abuse, so thematically you can't really compare the two, but Rapunzel's character growth and the overall execution of her story was just much more well done.

I have to say though, that Frozen was marketed just as much as Demolish-it-Duncan and BH6, originally. Disney was caught completely by surprise by the demand. There was news articles about parents fighting to get Frozen stuff for their kids and paying ridiculous sums online for secondhand stuff. That's sweet, sweet money that didn't go to Disney because they hadn't produced enough Frozen merch - so I'm guessing they decided never to repeat that mistake, so now there's definitely always enough Frozen merch
