It gave us The Maker. I mean, batshit insane Reed just makes sense, and he has a pretty minimalistic costume which works for him.

has anyone trying going back and re-reading USM?

I recently did trying to get my cousin into comics (and reading in general) and they were way cringeworthy and not even as fun as I remembered

its funny Bendis was my first favorite writer and now I despise most he does
maybe its just my perception of him thats skewing my opinion on USM this second time
but really
was it good?
or just like right spot, right time and took advantage of a new generation of kids who enjoyed the self-insert and couldn't identify with an adult, married Peter as much
>>
I had only finished it recently (a few months ago as a 23 year old and I loved it! One of the things that turned me away from comics in the first place was the inconsistancy of all the different writers, artists, etc. But as USM had the same two guys for what.. 100 issues? The story didn't fly all over the place. It felt like the essental Spider Man story for a more modern time.

He died in Incursion, and Bendis gave zero fucks about Peter by that point, he simply brought him back to give Miles another fucking pat on the back. Though his personality flipped like a fucking switch. He also brought him back to probably make Ultimate Spidey fans stop complaining. Meanwhile Goblin fight was the shittiest thing I saw from the run, along with Goblin basically killing everyone for no reason other than "GOTTA CLEAN HOUSE".

There's a difference between dark and THEEDGE. One is well-written, the other isn't. That being said it wasn't a terrible event as far as events go. The real crime is how many rules they broke after (no coming back from the dead, permanent consequences etc.)

No its not, there is nothing inherently flawed writing wise about the Blob eating wasp, it's just gruesome.

>>78404984
Loved what they did with Reed, first time I have ever felt sympathy and emotion about Sue, scene with her beaten half to death being operated on in the hospital while withering in pain was heartbreaking and realisic. Rafa provided all around great art.
Having the Thing become that universe's Wonder Man was unique and interesting.
And more of the Ultimate Captain Marvel who is bad freaking ass.
>>
>>78405983
>liking ultimate Sue
>enjoying cannibal Blob
lmao there goes your credibility

how much do you weigh neckbeard?
>>
>>78405881
New Ultimates was a perfectly good Thor & Loki centric Avengers story with fucking great art by Cho, badass sexy stuff with Zarda. Cho was almost better at drawing Ultimate Thor than Hitch was.
Interesting stuff with Valkyrie.

Your right my bad, Nightmare is the one I consider great secret and the 3rd arc are mearly good.
>>
>>78399769

I think that's how it is for most of us when it comes to Bendis. We liked what he did with USM, Daredevil, and Alias. It's just that for over a decade he's been riding the coattails of his past success and writes books that are outside of his wheelhouse. He's good at street level stuff, anything he writes outside of that ranges from mediocre to awful.
>>
>>78406058
I only like Sue in that Individual trilogy.
Haven't read any of the other Ultimate F4 stuff. And yes I know she is a cunt that dumped Reed to Whore out.

I do not enjoy cannibal blobb, I am indifferent to it.
I don't see why it is flawed writing to write that.
>>
>>78406119
>Haven't read any of the other Ultimate F4 stuff. And yes I know she is a cunt that dumped Reed to Whore out.

There's a disparity in quality of writing.
Sue aside, that story you're referencing where Sue is a "cunt" is about the same quality as the Ultimate Doomsday Trilogy. In that it relies on a complete assassination of the characters and how they were carried for most of the series.

Including Reed.
Goddamn that entire arc was such a stupid way to take Reed's character. Because of one reason - he would have just LEFT.
Sue was more often than not the team "big sister" of the UF4 stuff.

>I'm 24.

>>
>>78406066
>New Ultimates was perfectly good
It was just a rehash of Ultimates 2 with nothing new in it. Characters were shit, plot was lame. The only interesting thing was Thor having a son that ended up raised by Loki -- I'll admit that was a great addition.

As for Cho's art, it's good, but it's got some of his worse same face ever. It just happened to have four big breasted women for him to draw.

>2nd and 3rd arc are merely good
If you rate the Doomsday Trilogy as great but 2/3 of Galactus as good, your opinions are pretty bad.
>>
>>78402456
Is this Ultimate Reed Richards or Ultimate Hank Pym?
>>
>>78406636
> but it's got some of his worse same face ever
Bull, it's not a millionth as noticeable as Jim Cheung's faces and he has a wider range of expressions than 80% of artist out there.
>>
>>78406636
> If you rate the Doomsday Trilogy as great but 2/3 of Galactus as good, your opinions are pretty bad
1.) Brandon Peterson's art in the last arc of the Galactus trilogy brought the book down for me while Sandoval's was great all the way thru on Doomsday.
2.) And the last 3rd of Galactus just wasn't interesting to me compared to the twist and mystery they were doing all thru out Doomsday.
>>
>>78406772

>>
>>78406919

He would have just left.

Ultimate Pym was interesting how realistic a superhero with massive depression and anxiety can lash out.
>>
>>78407096
So you haven't read his Ultimate work, then?
>>
>>78406919
I agree Peterson sucks, but McNiven was GOAT on Secret. And yeah, Sandoval rules.

However, the twist was shit because of that nonsensical red herring by blowing up Reed's house. It makes no sense if you that scene again knowing what the outcome is.
>>
>>78407299
Ultimate Pym was pretty much a middle finger to anyone who cared about the 616 Pym.

It's a Pym from an Alternate Universe, how is he a middle finger to mainstream Pym? Ultimate Cap is a massive jingoistic dickwad, Ultimate Wasp is an Asian mutant, Ultimate Hulk is a sex-driven cannibal, Ultimate Black Widow was a traitor. None of these members of the Ultimates impacted 616 Avengers counterparts.
>>
>>78412792
>Ultimate Cap is a massive jingoistic dickwad

>>
>>78412813
It's been over 8 years since I read The Ultimates, but Ultimate Cap is far more dickish than 616 Cap.

This moment here >>78407813 is something 616 Cap would never dare say about the French.
>>
>>78412935
That was a singular moment.
He's very much the opposite of a dickward in 1 and 2
>>
>>78412935
>This moment here is something 616 Cap would never dare say about the French.
That's the most typical and least informed criticism of Ultimate Cap. It's one moment in the heat of battle, and he even says that to Fury in the next issue. It's a literal "I've never read this shit" complaint.

If that was true then he would not have strongly praised and respected Russian soldiers in WW2 like he states that he does in Ultimate Nightmare.
>>

If you seriously think someone who intentionally set off a set of events that lead to their alternate personality killing 800 people should not be kicked in the face then you can kiss my ass.
>>
>>78414069
Hitting someone who is not already down, but surrendered is an egotistical jackass move of a coward. If you aren't man enough to accept that your opponent is already beaten then you are an asshole.
>>
>>78407702
why? because he is an interesting character with flaws in a popular book.

Yeah, Pym fans must hate that. Nothing worse that your character being well done.
>>

Ultimates 3 was really bad.

Ultimatum was just kinda bad because of some inconsistency and killing for no reason other than (I think) they wouldn't have known how to use the characters.

Banner had just transformed himself into his super-powered, cannibalistic, rapist self simply because he was feeling pissy and depressed, and proceeded to murder 800 people and cause millions/billions in damage. He deserved a lot more than a kick in the face. I think Cap's reaction was very human. He's not some moral demigod like 616 Steve.
