Fox is in charge of the trailers, not the writing and direction, at least from a loose perspective. The role of them as a production company seems more hands-off with this one.
The reality is that you guys are right... but only about the trailer.
The purpose of the trailer is to get people to come see the movie, especially and including the lowest common denominator who have no fucking clue who Deadpool is aside from possibly "that guy on the hot topic shirts" or "the funny dude from the wolverine stuff".
In that sense, yes, of course memepool is going to be a focus of the trailers, and there will definitely be memepool stuff in the film, but the question is whether or not there's a real film baked into the meaty pie center of the appeal-to-the-masses flaky pop-comedy crust.
