So realistically, if you actually worked incredibly hard, you could get an animating job (probably not at CN) in 5-7 years (2 years to get good enough to get enrolled, then 4 years at the school, but I'd imagine by your third year you'd probably have some sort of co-op or internship).
The good news is you're young, and your dream is attainable. The bad news is you'll have to work so hard I can almost guarantee you'll begin loathing drawing. It's like how animators don't want to make fan animations because all they do all day is animate, so when they get home they feel like doing something else. Same thing happens with programmers. Competent ones could easily make simple video games, but they don't because they're probably sick of programming when they get home.

It's useful, but not necessarily a must read. Other books can teach you this as well, and you'll slowly pick it up naturally as you try drawing shit you're bad at.
One of the most frustrating parts about drawing is most of the things you learn, you learn by accident. You'll go "Oh, wow so this is how these go together" or "Actually drawing it this way makes life a lot easier". It's essentially poking in the dark making a ton of mistakes and remembering the shit that works.

he's practically the first author to lay down the principles of drawing beyond abstraction, he uses very good visual explanations for the concepts he's laying down and in general is as methodic as a real life course.
other people have made books that surpass it, but they still cover essentially the same things. Loomis is recommended because it's out there for free and everywhere at this point. If you need more help those books are there too, however, many people get stuck looking for the 'right' tutorial because they just get frustrated too easily after trying.
