Looking back from Monty's other works, he still had the experience needed to make some textures (even if he had references since it was Haloid and Dead Fantasy) Also, Monty had other people draw some of the concepts for him. For example Einlee was the one who drew the main art for RWBY back during the trailers, I forget who drew the main concept arts back when RWBY literally had the exact same hair color except for Yang.

This is because some guy decided to make a mmd version of Ruby's trailer and entered the mmd competition on niconico, bringing a lot of attention to the show thanks to monty's awesome battle choreography.
People made fan subs for episodes on niconico, and then RT decided to give them proper subs on volume 3.
But popularity died out at volume 3, after the first 2 team fights and Winter vs Qrow, a lot of people lost interest, views drop by 10k per episode.
This is all just observation from niconico comments and videos, not actual statistical data.

Ruby/Yang's lineage, we only know their parents were hunters, Jaune's family of warriors go back to his great great grandfather who Crocea Mors originally belonged to.
While Ruby is younger and also inexperienced as a leader she's far more optimistic, while Jaune felt he had let his team down during the whole CRDL shit.
