So last night I had this weird dream that I fucked my lesbian friend while she was dressed as Zatanna and it was super awesome. But it made me realize I've never actually read any of her stories. Any one got any good recs?

And Zatanna thread I guess

I'm just trying to find stuff to read man, I grew up on marvel and have minimum knowledge of DC characters besides dcau stuff and the big bats stories. Sorry I thought I could come to a board that has a lot of knowledge on the subject and ask for help.
>>
>>78294288
I know Zatanna is Dini's waifu is it safe to assume anything from him is gonna be good?
>>
>>78294853
Pretty much, although I'd say the other writers in his intial Mistress of Magic run are just as good. There's a good amount of people that'll say it's better, but I think that's because Dini told bigger stories about one enemy while other writers told shorter ones while exploring a bunch of different enemies.

PFFTHAHAHAHAHA! Rec threads are one of the main reasons nobody on /co/ actually reads comics. That, and most people come here solely to bitch about Tumblr and such.
>>
>>78295072
How are rec threads the reason people don't read comics? It points people in the right direction whenever I do get a rec I try to hunt something from the list down.

>>

>How are rec threads the reason people don't read comics?
All recs do is give out a list of names people can use to pretend they read comics. Which appears to be what has happened here, as so many people are clearly ignorant shitposters.

If someone is truly interested in something, they will seek it out themselves instead of bothering others.
>>
>>78295603
While I can see how some people might do that, it seems pointless to me to try to get nerd creds with names of runs, hell all my friends think im lame because i read comics. I actually want to see other peoples opinions on runs so I can judge if I want to spend the money. Thn once I get a feel I can try to venture further out and go from there. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. On comics. On a comics board. Its people like you that are killing comics trying to chase out any potential new fans with your elitist Bullshit.
>>
>>78295759
>I actually want to see other peoples opinions on runs so I can judge if I want to spend the money.
So you need other people's approval before you make a decision, since you're incapable of making up your own mind. Got it.

>Its people like you that are killing comics trying to chase out any potential new fans with your elitist Bullshit.
You can choose to see it that way, because you're an idiot. But what I'm actually doing is encouraging people to seek things out and read for themselves, because they should be making their own decisions instead of following the groupthink.

Or you know getting a review or something before spending money.I'm sure you are a blast at parties. Unfortunately I have a job and bills that I have to keep up with so I don't have the time to research everything I want to look into deeply. Sometimes it's nice to ask for a little direction you know but you just keep right on being superior to everyone else. *tips ect

Just got off the phone with my LCS and ordered the black canary Zatanna blood spell trade and should get it in a week or so, so thanks to the other anon that wasn't a shit.
>>
>>78296204
>Or you know getting a review or something before spending money
Reviews are for entertainment purposes only. Your opinion should always be your own.

>Unfortunately I have a job and bills that I have to keep up with so I don't have the time to research everything I want to look into deeply.
Not my problem. Don't read comics then. Get a different hobby if it's too much trouble. Moron.
>>
>>78296263
What's wrong with checking out if something is seen as good by other people before spending money thn making an opinion after reading it myself? If I personally like it I can thn check out other things that aren't seen as great if I'm interested enough. It's okay to ask for a starting point. Also its a hobby not a job not something to dedicate your life to. I can indulge in my hobby anyway I see fit, because its for my entertainment on my time. If a small child asked you for direction in comics would you act the same way? Don't you want to have a new generation of fans that know good shit? Because the more people that know good shit the more they'll demand good shit. Pull your head out your ass man.

>>78296056
Thanks saved for future hunting
>>
>>78296608
>What's wrong with checking out if something is seen as good by other people before spending money thn making an opinion after reading it myself?
Because your opinion will be influenced by theirs. You'll be subconsciously consulting a reviewer's thought as you watch/read.

>If a small child asked you for direction in comics would you act the same way?
I'd tell them to stop bothering me and go look it up. We have the Internet now, so there's no reason to be annoying people with all your asinine little questions.

>Don't you want to have a new generation of fans that know good shit? Because the more people that know good shit the more they'll demand good shit.
False equivalence. Media will always be dictated by what the people running the show think is best. The viewers have no say in it.

>Reviews are for entertainment purposes only

I have to legitimately know. Does your viewpoint only apply to comics/media or does it apply to buying items as well? I can understand the concept behind media because ultimately, there is a lot of opinion/taste variety. So what one person enjoys, another person hates. Essentially a person develops their own taste. But for buying something like a screwdriver set. If the reviews were all negative, condoning easy to chip heads or something, would that still count or not within your viewpoint? I am learning towards it would not, but just want you to confirm it. I don't want to be taking anything out of context.

>>

>>
>>78296831
1) not really, there's been a few times I've been burned by good reviews not meeting my expectations. I still ultimately decide if I like something or not.

2) you must have no friends with an attitude like that.

3) if there is a market for it and they know they'll make money they'll do it. Why wouldn't they? There has to be people willing to spend their money for it and that's how the consumer makes the companies change. Ultimately yeah the show runners make the choice on what to put out, but if enough people want something it'll become more readily available.
>>
>>78297302
>>78297346

I just want to know if reviews based on objects, rather than media, are included.

Reviews serve the function of showing people what things are terrible and what might be worth their time you inbred hick.

>sub-par movies exist because some people like to encourage others to form their own opinions

Those movies exist because people like you tell people to ignore reviews and form your own opinion by paying money to see it, which fuels the fire, even though you end up hating it.

You're stupid.

Kill yourself.
>>
>>78297355
1) Congratulations. You have a working neuron or two.

2) If I had friends I wouldn't be wasting my time on a hobby I hate so damn much.

3) You say that, but in practice it just doesn't happen until someone who wants a certain thing gets into a position of influence and makes a popular work. Afterwards, everyone else starts to copy them. Supply and demand doesn't apply to media.

What the fuck bizarro universe did I suddenly drop into?

There was an enormous controversy allegedly about how journalism is complete bullshit, and here there are people actually saying you should listen to reviews. What the fuck.
>>
>>78297629
Two different issues.

One is related to bribing reviewers to bump up a score to influence people, one is saying that not listening to reviewers when they say a bad thing is bad somehow isnt related to bad thing happening more often.
>>
50 posts and 14 posters.

Woweee shit theres a lot of samefagging going on here.
>>
>>78297629
I guess this is your first month here. Rotten Tomatoes scores get posted here all the time, it's the crux of moviefag shitposting. Like DoFP rating higher than Avengers.
>>
>>78297629
Different mediums, different issues.

Though its less listening to corporate shill reviews and more peer to peer reviews like on here.
>>
>>78297654
It's the exact same issue. Reviews are not a reliable source of criticism for a number of reasons. Inherent bias, possible bribery, unfair critique, intentional misinformation, etc, etc.

The only way to know if something is good is to judge for yourself. And if this perpetuates a cycle of poor quality products, oh well. Stop buying stuff, I guess.
>>
>>78297732
Or you could find unbiased sources that are clearly not corporate shills and start using them.

Did you know that competition creates a need for quality products? Its the same in any market, whether it be physical or a service, like a review.

1) I'm surprised I function with only the 2

2) well now that you admit you don't have friends I just feel bad for you, but you totally bring it on yourself with that attitude, just saying

3) well teach the new generation and hopefully they'll get to a position of influence, which would be more likely if more people got help and pointed in good directions instead of being told to shove it.

>>78297629
When I say review I really mean peer reviews or reviews by actual customers not people paid to do it
>>
>>78297756
>Or you could find unbiased sources that are clearly not corporate shills and start using them.
And naturally, you're meant to use your well honed psychic powers to do this. I'll get right on that.

Not necessarily. One always has the option of sabotaging the competition in some way, or appealing to various trends to gain shallow praise. Transformers is a great example actually. Critically panned, but people keep going to see them. Quality means nothing.

Exactly. That's what all this hivemind shit has done to everyone. "4chan told me it was good, so it must be!"

>See? If a person gives you a recommendation, and it ends up being shit, anybody with a backbone can come back a week later and say "Fuck you, that was crap."
Yeah, but it's against board culture to do so. /co/ is supposed to be the "nice" board (Even though it isn't. /co/ was never "love".), so nobody speaks out against actions that are considered charitable, like recs.
>>
>>78297975

You already said you have no friends, maybe you need to step back lighten up and calm the fuck down. What are you even doing with your life? I truly feel bad for you son. True 4chan hates everything but there are some people who give out some good points. Maybe you should ask people some recs to give you an idea of where to find some hope you sad bastard

Yes, that's why there's still people who argue over if Bendis's good work was really good at all, or if DnA's Cosmic Marvel was really shit and we're blinded by Nostalgia, and countless other examples I can think of.
I'm pretty sure racism would be against "board culture" too, and yet you can't make a Kamala thread without the Muslim haters crawling out from their containment board.

There is no "board culture". People still shitpost no matter how much other people don't want them to. You've still got faggots going " Man of Murder " in every thread that has Superman in it, and every Wonder Woman thread has some asshole going "Dur, Necksnap".

Your entire argument is based on a flawed assumption.

Because I want 4chan to be less of a virulent hivemind, that's why. If there was less groupthink going on, maybe it would be possible to have a decent conversation around here. You only see a hivemind because everyone is faceless here, minus bocos gay ass, and you don't want to see the differences in opinion, or maybe certain shit is just liked by a lot of people who are vocal about it
>>
>>78298849
>But this is happening right now and you don't seem to mind.
Eh. Happens all the time. Used to it. .... Hold on. Why the fuck do these threads always become about me? Enough of that shit.

Look, the point is that recs threads ultimately breed ignorance and circlejerking, so you should be doing your own research instead of letting others determine your opinions for you.
>>
>>78298908
you're not wrong
>>
>>78298943
>Why the fuck do these threads always become about me?

Because you're autistic as fuck and people want to pick your brain to try to understand why you are the way you are
>>
>>78298943
>Hold on. Why the fuck do these threads always become about me?

Because you always show up. Every time. You know what you could do instead? Talk about the runs that ARENT recommended. Like, if somebody wants to read Daredevil, try to convince them to read Kevin Smith's run. Or Diggle.
Start a discussion, without shitposting.

Maybe you should just leave. If you're not willing to belong, you have no business here.

Doesn't cost money to join a trivia night most of the time, unless you buy drinks.
>>
>>78299048
You know that, I know that, but I want to see if he knows that.

I want to see if he can join these discussions and convince people to read the shit nobody discusses. Like, if he goes into an X-Men rec thread, and tries to defend Austen.
>>
>>78299016
>You know what you could do instead? Talk about the runs that ARENT recommended.
... You haven't been paying attention AT ALL, have you? THIS is why I keep this up. Because you fuckers just don't get it.

>Diggle
Uh, considering his Thunderbolts run, no. Just, no.
>>
>>78299103
See, I like his Diggle run. I never get tired of seeing Mr. X get his shit pushed in, with my favorite example being in the Siege Tie-In. Plus, its a good starting point for Based Ghost, at least the one in the Parker Run.

See, what this is, is called "discussion". Try it more, instead of shitposting.
>>
>>78299103

Just stop. Just let it happen. Just pet the threads happen and just...join in the conversation. Make a bon mot based on a fun meme you saw. Maybe shitpost every once in a while. It's just dumb old comics, they don't matter. No one goes on 4chan to be serious except the worst posters.

Just chill. Relax, and don't take things so seriously. Conversation doesn't matter, entertainment does. Wouldn't you be happier if you just entertained once in a while?
>>
>>78299100
>Like, if he goes into an X-Men rec thread, and tries to defend Austen.
Okay, I get you don't like me, but that is simply uncalled for. Honestly.

>>78299153
>I never get tired of seeing Mr. X get his shit pushed in,
Yeah, but that's like one good thing out of an otherwise mediocre run. That and Melissa, but then, I'm a filthy waifu-fag for her, so I'm biased.

>See, what this is, is called "discussion". Try it more, instead of shitposting.
>telling people to read stuff is shitposting
Riiight.
>>
>>78299239
>>Like, if he goes into an X-Men rec thread, and tries to defend Austen.
>Okay, I get you don't like me, but that is simply uncalled for. Honestly.

Have you read it? How do you know it's bad, and that you haven't just been TOLD it was bad?
That's how you sound like. Sometimes, the hivemind exists, when everyone agrees that something is shit. And if you dislike it as much as you say you do, I'm sure you can find merit. Or, maybe Waypool.
>>
>>78299340
I haven't specifically read Austen's X-Men stuff, but I have read some of his other books. I hate this man. He is everything I hate about comic books. So yeah, don't insult me by comparing me to that human stain.

>Waypool
Actually, I have read some Waypool. .... Is it supposed to one of those anti-comedy things? Because just about every joke completely falls flat.
>>
So who will play zatanna in Jl:D
>>
Op must read Seven Soldiers because holy fucking shit mah ballz.

Get ready to fall in love with characters who haven't had anything going for them in years however. It's cool though, the journey is worth the pain
>>
>>78299063
>If you're not willing to belong, you have no business here.
What are you, a fucking commie? Get out of here with that shit.

>>78299235
>Relax, and don't take things so seriously.
Why shouldn't I take things seriously? I'm not just going to suddenly stop caring, that's ridiculous.
>>
>>78299446
Let me put it this way. Did you see that JSA Storytime (I have no idea why he calls them that) where the Digglebolts crossed over with Waypool? That was early Waypool, arguably the best he got.

Bad humor isn't the worst part, the entire run is aimless. He starts by being an amoral Merc (its a step back for Deadpool, but most writers go back and tell a new story, so that doesn't make it BAD, just mediocre), then he decides he wants to be a hero, then he decides being a hero is hard and wants to be an amoral Merc again (this time in space), then he decides he wants to die, and then, once he gets his healing factor removed, he tries to be a hero again to protect Bob (Agent of HYDRA).

The biggest problem, ignoring the fact that it's a comedy book that isn't funny is that it just can't decide on a story, and the character suffers for it.

That was the BEST of it? I nearly lost the ability to laugh reading that crap.

>(I have no idea why he calls them that)
It's called JSA Storytime because it was a run of Johns JSA, and then the OP started doing other stuff, usually somewhat out the way books, like Mage, Warlord, etc. Currently in the middle of a break before continuing a marathon of literally all of the Legion of Superheroes.

Exactly! There's a reason the Deadpool rec lists can be summed up as "Read everything Deadpool, except Waypool and shit that's inspired by Waypool". If you can believe it, Waypool gets even WORSE.
>>
>>78298943
Op here again, when I asked for recs on Zatanna I wasn't asking to be given an opinion I was asking for some direction, different thing completely. If you had anything constructive to say about runs with her in it thn this thread would not have turned into people not liking you, you just shitposted and this thread became ass. I'm glad you are actually talking comics now even if its not the original topic. Also waypool is utter shit. Its the epitome of lolrandumb xD and caters to the lowest common denominator with shit taste. Massive downgrade in quality, give me kellypool any day of the week. Duggan is good, but the latest vol has me kinda iffy previous was damn good, and I am probably one of the few that didn't mind the first arc, dead presidents I think, it wasn't that bad. As far as Austen goes I've never really read him, I've heard that his run is ass but I plan on reading it eventually because I wanted to read all the xmen, like I don't know how I'm going to do it but I want too. Just curious why do you dislike Austen so much?
>>
>>78301374
Austen is... an experience. I won't spoil it for you, but it needs to be read to be believed. He also wrote an Avengers run after Busiek.
>>
>>78299608
Well I like Morrison for the most part so I'll definitely give it a shot, I looked it up on amazon and saw klarion and I think Frankenstein? Seems like it could be interesting, I liked the new klarion run but kinda lost track of it is that still going or did it get canned?

Ever heard of a miniseries called World Watch? That is everything you will ever need to know about Chuck Austen. OW THE EDGE does not do it justice. And that's basically all his work in a nutshell. Dude's like Mark Millar without the self awareness.

Consider how niche the comic book industry is, barely hanging on by a thread and frankly needing every available writer and artist on hand. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get blacklisted in comics? Well he did it. Chuck Austen is so bad that the Big Two and all the others said "No. We don't want him."
>>
>>78301713
That's kind of impressive, and makes me want to read it out of morbid curiosity

>>78302183
Go for it, though tread carefully. And be sure to have something good on hand as a palette cleanser.
