When I was about four years old, I watched the episode where the babies put a lizard in their diapers to smuggle "Baby Reptar" to go see Reptar on Ice. I thought the expressions they made, particularly Chucky, when the lizard wriggled around in their diaper funny. Sometimes I would act out a scenes from episodes I was familiar with as it happened on the TV and one day I put a little plastic dinosaur in the front of my underwear and spazzed out with Chucky, imitating his grunts. The feeling of the iguanadon on my prepubescent penis caused me to become erect for the first time I was consciously aware of. It kind of startled me and made me feel weird about this episode for the next couple years. That said, Reptar on Ice is a great episode.

Yeah, but that was still just a 2 year old's imagination. I doubt it's canon that Tommy's parents would be enslaved by Angelica the Hutt if Chucky didn't exist. Though,it is pretty telling that even Chucky is aware how hard his dad would fall apart if he didn't have anyone left in his life.

One of the early ones, Stu and Chas are shown to be so irresponsible they end up thinking two inanamate dolls are their children and Chuckie and Tommy are left free to wander a closed toy store.

This episode is also notable in that it is established that within the Rugrats universe, Time Travel isn't just a thing, its mastered so heavily its delegated to the realm of children's toy.
And it was never brought up again.

idk if it was even an episode and not a god damn movie, but the one where they go out on a fishing boat and i remember there was a live bait tank and i think tommy and chucky wanted to save the bait fish or someshit.

idk its been a really really long time

nah man, i remember it being specifically on a boat. there was a glass bottom and oh fuck, the two dads and grandpa were trying to catch a big arse Marlin fish and there was one scene where the marlin was seen by the babies through the glass floor of the boat.

i think grandpa ended up catching the marlin in the end and maybe it was a reptar toy used as bait? fuuuck im having some weird memory flashbacks to this.

Sorry, it took longer to get home than I thought. The picture is from the made-for-TV movie where the characters reenact Jack and the Beanstalk. There's a scene where all the babies are are in one tiny, cramped bed together where no one has any room and they're trying really hard to sleep. Dil poops, and everyone rushes out of the bed. The babies' guardian, who's a cow voiced by some black comedian, yells for a fresh diaper, and the babies are tired and confused so they just throw diapers at her. The whole scene is gross and unpleasant, but arousing for me as an ABDL/diaper fetishist. I like to imagine the same scene playing out, but in a bed filled with women.

Is there any explanation like with the Simpsons and Spongebob for what happened to this show around the time that Dill showed up? The earlier episodes are surprisingly watchable, sometimes even pretty great, but once Dill showed up it's like the entire tone of the show changed.

Was it different writers or just some kind of decay?
>>
>>78258039
>the animators
It was in the script, though.
They send the gorilla toy back in time with it.
>>
>>78258063
It was probably different writers, it went from them actually getting into a bunch of shit to just pretending once it got to that point.
There are no episodes directly comparable to things like the kidnapping episode once Dill comes into the picture.
>>
>>78258063
the movie happened, the show was at its peak and then they stopped trying, like Spongebob.
>>
>>78258063
it happens to every show. the writers start running out of ideas or getting burned out and try to spice it up by adding new characters and cliche story angles
>>
>>78237068
>My lovely assistant Ramona will hold the bowl!

>Drew...I know you're in here Drew...

God that shit was uncanny
>>
>>78258106
>>78258131

That kind of makes sense. It is surprising just how tame the show got by that point, when earlier episodes featured the babies consistently almost dying in real-world situations because of their parents own neglectfulness. The whole premise of the movie was pretty much exactly that.

Remember when Tommy tried to kill Dill in the forest? Good times, good times.

There wasn't any weird shit like the episode where they went into Spike's dog house either.
It was just boring.
>>
>>78258295

Earlier Rugrats episodes:
>The parents lose track of the kids and they almost get brutally murdered.
>The babies imagine something crazy like adult life being completely corporate or Spike living in some dog dimension because they don't have any frame of reference at all.
>The parents are cynical and fuck and largely uncaring. Stu has some kind of inferiority complex about Drew.

Later Rugrats episodes:
>The kids get lost and the parents freak the fuck out, but nothing really happens.
>The babies imagine completely mundane cartoon situations like a safari.
>The parents are extremely caring and generally good people.
>>
>>78258290
It was explained in the first part of the storyboard, apparently. That's page 2 out of like 6.
>>
>>78258458
Basically, they just stripped out everything that made the show fun and actually enjoyable.
>>
>>78258063
>>78258257
The show originally ended in 1993. For years after that, Rugrats continued being one of Nick's most popular cartoons. In 1996, they revived the show, but most of the original staff had moved on. The Dil episodes, the movie, and the season leading up to them were all post-revival.

It's more akin to Family Guy than Spongebob.
>>
>>78258563
Yeah but the post-movie season was the tipping point.
The movie itself and the episodes prior to it were still bearable at the very least.
>>
>>78258585
>The movie itself and the episodes prior to it were still bearable at the very least.
No, the episodes leading up to the movie were just as shitty and watered down as the ones after. The movie was good, but it definitely showed signs of being the post-revival staff. (particularly the toned down Angelica and louder sense of humor)
>>
>>78258634

I wouldn't say they were THAT bad. They weren't anywhere near the first few seasons but shit really went south when Dill got on board. Somehow it got even worse when Kimi showed up, even as a kid I couldn't watch those episodes.

Is that really what it says?

Some of the early episodes had some dark moments. Like when Tommy gets lost in the post office and nearly falls into an inescapable pit with a skeleton.
>>
>>78257937
You are now are aware that time travel technology is canon in the Rugrats universe.
>>
Didi's parents were jews, dude

but toy inventing is!

Tommy's a jew, Stu and his dad's sad are not you faggot.

>that one episode of all grown up where tommy and stu make a sock-sorting machine for the science fair

I remember how creepy Pat Sajak looked in that episode. I also didn't know who he was until that episode.

He doesn't even look human.

They've made multiple circumcision jokes. There's a musical number in the movie/episode where Dil is born, I believe, where one baby is upset they cut his (umbilical) cord and Rodney Dangerfield baby looks down his diaper and responds "Aw, consider yourself lucky!".

Are you sure? This is the same show that had a Dr. Kevorkian joke. I'd believe the Russian Roulette joke.
>>
The episode where they get lost or something at the chuck e cheese type place was fun from what i remember

The Christmas episode with the real santa was pretty good

PIG OUT ON PIZZA

The action figure episode where Angelica was like a cyberdemon from Doom and fucking rekt everyone.

This was some scary shit. Was it a dead guy or some kind of scarecrow prop that fell into the mail sorter after a wild drunken Halloween party?

It kind of blew my mind when I realized Chuckie was modeled after Mark Mothersbaugh, who's in Devo and did the music for the show.

Also, I'm kind of upset that there seems to be no release of any of the music from the show. They really should release a cd set because it's one of the best parts about the show.

My favorite moment in the series is when Stu is sleepwalking, and he starts saying "One potato, two potato, three potato, four" and he's fiddling around in the kitchen.

when I had my first erection at like 4-5 years old im like "my wiener is happy"

my mom couldn't stop laughing when I said that.

am I the only one that enjoys rugrats all grown up? When I was younger I was always hoping they would do something like that.
>>
>>78236353

The mother's day episode.
>>
>>78287430
Must have killed your boner fast.
>>
>>78287559
I was really surprised how they killed off Chucky's mom, I remember seeing her in the earlier episodes, during that one family barbecue, so I thought it might have an episode dedicated to it but then just one day she's not there anymore and they aren't commenting on it at all.
>>
>>78287599
I thought she was always dead..
>>
>>78287713
She might have been but I clearly remember seeing another female attending said barbecue with Chaz who shared qualities with chucky.. lemme find the episode.

This female is clearly chatting with Chas Finster, and shares similar features to Chucky. While they never go 'Hey Mrs. F" it's always what I've assumed.
>>
>>78287770
>Massive forehead
>No eyebrows
>Bad haircut
>Eyes are too far apart
>Looks like she has a lumpy growth on her forehead
>Misshapen neck and weird saggy tits
It's probably because she's inhumanly ugly, even by Rugrats standards.
>>
>>78287423
A lot of old Nick shows had good soundtracks. Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Doug, etc
>>
>>78287770
could always be construed as Chas's sister. I don't remember, but does Chas ever talk about his family in the series?
>>
>>78287946
I don't think so, but I can never remember anything about Chaz anyways that isn't just him being a whiny bitch.

Honestly the ones for me was the Melvin episode and the one where Angelica tries to kick her addiction towards Cookies
>>
>>78285321

I doubt it because it was a king of the hill joke with dale and his wife, and after he confirms she has no idea what the game is, he brags that he won.

It happened all right.
Maybe it the AGU series, but it happened.
>>

>>78285321
The actual scene is Grandpa telling Stu and Didi he's sick and he can't help with the yard
>>
>>78284216
It's a Kill of the Hill joke. From Dale getting back from gun club
>>
No one mentioned the wild west episode

that episode scared me as a kid.

The episode when all the babies fight the robot clown toys leaving the front yard riddled with their dismembered bodies.

It was so badass, I and my cousins would get so hype when it came on.

Spoopy ending.
