For whatever reason there are 3 LCS within walking distance where I am. After getting a similar vibe from the one guy or girl in all of them I decided to rotate accordingly to keep things strictly impersonal. I'll go so far as to visit the 2 other stores on the outskirts if I think the locals are getting too familiar. Those stores will take any business they can get if it helps them stay open, I hate to take advantage of that infrequently but at least I'm helping indirectly. It's these inner city kids who think they're running an exclusive club with their friends where I need to earn points based on my character class before I'm in. Besides a regular change of scenery and exercise does good.
Sure, sure we might all get along at one of the places once we warm up to each other but I'm not going to get profiled before I can get treated like any other customer. I'm not proud of what it's come to but the way I see it it's simple as chess, white makes the first move everyone else just plays along.

NYC resident here; most of the LCS in the five boroughs are pretty chill. I think the only bad experience I've had at a LCS was on in the Bronx.
I was in the area for unrelated business & decided to check out a comic shop that was near since I'd heard it had a shit ton of action figures. Everything in there was marked with a price & I noticed a few figs I've been wanting but could not find at all or would always be too much else where. Yet, whenever I brought up something buy, the owner typed for a few seconds on his laptop & then said he can't sell it to me for the marked price. Instead of making a scene out of his obvious BSing, I just left. I was ready to spend an easy $200 on just three figs.
Only other place that's consistently bad is St. Marks Comics. They follow you around or stare you down every so often, even though they take everyone's bag at the front. Admittedly, it's a pretty small & cramped place, but they terribly obvious about it. And I'm a semi-regular there.

If they were in for that limited run of whatever popular thing they were after, a product they were pursuing from their own personal preferences, then the store owner might have instead obliged them, and then taken the effort to make conversation in seeing what genres interested them, possibly making recommendations for other merchandise, and then perhaps end up with long-term customers. What a difference in treatment that would have been! People don't read comics for a number of reasons. Service and culture are pretty low on the scale actually. The sheer size and history of content, the fact you have to read as well as the necessity of actually having to go out and be consistent with a form of media that takes less than half an hour to consume a pop are far more salient.
Besides. The more niche an interest is, assuming the market evolves to fit it's smaller consumership (unlike comics) the better it is. Half the hobbies flooded with preachy normalfags are eventually ruined. Look at games. It's not enough to have games that appeal to fringe groups but now there's more and more push to have all games appease the fringe. Now where are we seeing big pushes for that lately hmm?

Instead of doing a single 20-30 page floppy each week/month, I wish comics were released as a single 200-300 page volume at a time. Would give you more material on a first issue to decide if you want to continue or not, and would allow for the smaller titles to be able to do a complete storyline even if they don't catch on.

But yeah something about the structure has to give. Either price, product or presentation. I would certainly prefer to see it as a larger product with bigger gaps in between but I don't think the current third parties would be happy. Less printing, less mass delivery and less reason for LCS to exist.
Still an order online sub thing where you get your larger and better planned product once every few months/half a year or whatever, sounds pretty workable.
