I dont think he needs to, that hasnt really been his thing as of late. And Stan and Kyle in general dont get much time together since it's pretty much the Cartman and Randy show. Kyle only gets as much presence as he does usually because of how he's the one who creates the most conflict with Cartman.
The fight they had this season was the most development and interaction they got as a duo in a while, and that was dropped pretty much completely in the finale.

But they decided they were tired of constantly killing Kenny so they went with him instead.
It also makes sense why Stan is focused on in the episode since it was originally about Kyle dying.

The whole thing with Stan being in denial until the very end made it seem like the plot was originally constructed with Kyle dying in mind after having heard their commentary. And at the same time I could see why they didn't go through with it. It would have just been way too fucking sad to be a South Park episode.

Only problem is I don't see how they could get away with Stan getting over his grief just like that to do most of season 6, meaning there probably would have been a bunch of episodes with 'serious' tones, which just doesn't fit South Park at all. And Stan would have fucking brutalized Cartman for using Kyle's death to clone a Shakey's Pizza. I actually do believe Stan could plausibly become very close with Butters if Kyle wasn't already in his life though.
