Why action cartoons have so limited success nowdays?

Its because kids doesn't buy action figures any more?
>>

rather they don't make proper action figures of them and they refuse to let them have any good air time and thus can't catch on with kids.

TLDR: Executives hate action cartoons especially ones with effort put towards them.
>>
Because they're rarely good anymore, girls don't like them, and yeah that.

The only action oriented shows that will always exist are TMNT and Transformers at this rate since their fanbases are heavily based on toys to begin with, the core audience of capeshit in terms of mass appeal is live action now where back in the day there weren't that many live action cape flicks so cartoons were rampant
>>
The death of the Saturday morning and after school cartoon block. Its just a mess of random cartoons and repeats with no discernible schedule. Kids like routine.

Cartoon Network is being the worst with it. When they have new episodes they shit them all out every night of the week until they run out. The tension bleeds out.

Yes. There are other reasons, but this is by far the biggest.

Because Snyder killed all the good ones.

The quality is now complete shit. They look like chink knock off from the 90's.
Pic related was a typical figure in the 90's, and before that you had great stuff like the street sharks. Now toys have visible screws.
You have to go for "collector" tier stuff to get a decent stuff. Not really expensive, but for the same price you can get one shitty video game.

Compare the toys from batman Forever vs the toys from DKR

Did this show even have any action figures? All I remember was a collector's figure and a Happy Meal line consisting of nothing but Batman.
>>
Yes, but there's also the fact that they cost more to produce, and since kids will watch anything, it's more cost effective to make a cheaper comedy show. Then, there's censorship to be considered, which can hurt the content of an action show and limit what you can do in it.
>>
Many recent ones haven't been that good

The few that were never caught on

More expensive to make

Episodic nature means they can't be thrown on slap dash where ever

To be honest, censorship wasn't an issue until the theater shootings in 2012, which made WB execs panic and censor the guns in Beware.

It's not really action cartoons so much as it is Mattel.

Mattel is DC's toy supplier, Hasbro is Disney's, Cartoon Network is tied with DC through Warners, so looking at the toy sales it's easy to break it down.

YJ: Mattel fucked up
Green Lantern: Film tanked, no stores ordered the toys
Beware the Batman: Mattel fucked up
Ben 10: UA was so bad no stores ordered the toys
Symbionic Titan: Genndy didn't toyetic it up so they Uriah'd it dor bit playing ball
Generator Rex: Toy sales tanked

Secret Saturdays: Actually got a full 52 episode order, but toys didn't sell hot

Now look at Disney Marvel, there shit stays on due to a good toy partner and a multi billlion brand marketing platform
>>
>Its because kids doesn't buy action figures any more?

That's the symptom not the disease. Mainly you need to ask why do action shows live and die by action figure sales instead of selling ad space like normal TV programming?
>>
Kids don't buy toys because decent toys are like 20 dollars nowadays.
>>
The problem with action cartoons is that networks rely too heavily on toys for merchandise sales. It's nearly 2016 and they're still leaning on old business plans from the 1990's without realizing how dated they are nowadays.

Face it, kids don't play with toys anymore. Like the rest of the world, they've adapted to the internet. Whether or not this is bad from a sociology perspective is up to you, but it's clearly taking a toll on toy sales. Companies need to come up with more up-to-date models for this shit.

The fact that they hardly even release toys at all may be another contributing factor, but that's another story altogether.
>>
The toys thing is circular

Toy sales down (for what can be various reasons) ----> Shows depending on toy sales does badly ----> Less toy oriented shows are made ----> Less effort put into toy oriented shows/toys themselves ----> repeat

Toys are still sold and do make a profit, but it is either something stupid big like superheroes, Star wars or a non-show lines of toys.

And now the US has like a shooting weekly. You'd think people would've grown accustomed to them already.
>>
>>78206516
People completely forgot about the theater shooting when Beware premiered.

It really sucks because the gun censoring actually affected the show, pushing it back and blowing budget on changing the guns.

>Green Lantern: Film tanked, no stores ordered the toys
It seemed to be the opposite problem, at least around here: stores ordered too many Green Lantern toys for whatever reason, and they shelf-warmed like crazy for over a year, even when they were clearanced to almost nothing. That's supposedly why the GLTAS toyline never got beyond the prototype stage.

Oh yeah, I remember that.

Wasn't a Saint Walker collector's released or did they cancel that as well?
