So guys, I plan on getting the Glory hardcover and I'm having a hard time deciding if I should get East of West in the 4 volumes or buy the hardcover that collects the first three volumes. Then I need one book to round out the order to get it over $50 for instocktrades and I'm wondering if Prophet or Pretty Deadly are even worth getting.
>>
My recent acquisitions were The League of Extraordinary Gentleman Omnibus and Beautiful Darkness.
If this thread is up by the time I get back from work, I'll post my updated shelves.
>>

>>
>>78157501
Where'd you find those? Brick & mortar or online?
>>
>>78160867
That's a resounding yes. Unfortunately.

>>78160888
Thank you! Whilst I don't think the main series was worth the paper it was printed on, I thoroughly enjoyed the minis as a whole, I'd say pick up a book based on an era of comics you have nostalgia for or enjoy immensely, and see if it grabs you.
>>
>>78160012
>>78160069
Haven't read Graham Prophet, but everyone on here raves about it. I am saving myself for the HC as well.
>>
>>78161044
Thanks for the info on the Marvel HCs. I was thinking of getting the Hickman Avengers books and Aaron Thor books in the format, but maybe I should just get the smaller hardcovers? Is the paper quality better?

As for Convergence, I will have to go through the different eras. I picked up the Wally West Flash monthlies as they came out, but was not impressed. Sadly.
>>
>>78161165
Get the OHC's
>>
>>78161165
I've kind of fallen away from Marvel since the Secret Wars began to be honest, and outside of Extraordinary X-Men, ANAD Marvel has done very little to coax me back, so can't speak for the current quality of their Premiere HCs.

In terms of Convergence, I have a few stand-out series that are a mix of being actually good, and tweaking my nostalgia. I particularly recommend Supergirl Matrix, Green Arrow, Swamp Thing, Teen Titans and Suicide Squad. Haven't read the Wally stuff yet.
>>
>>78156371
Dream Book: Luckily I read that Marvel is collecting Uncanny X-Men: The Trial of Gambit. That plus the Gambit solo series finally receiving a collection in a few months has given me my dream books.

I have the original Cass Batgirl trades, but am hoping for an awesome edition of the rerelease.

Aside from that, my TRUE "Dream" book would have to be a Wally West Flash Omnibus by Mark Waid and Brian Augustyn up through the Chain Lightning issues. If only DC would get over its Waid hate and realize they would make some good money off of that.
>>
>>78160888
The one with Montoya question was pretty good.
>>
>>78156371

The lights are a charming touch.
>>
>>78156371
Dream book is a tough one. On the one hand, I'd currently love a reprint of Steph Brown Batgirl, but I wouldn't say that's a dream.

I'd adore a nice series of Fables Omnibi, collecting the entire main series and Fairest in chronological order. Then maybe a separate Omni for Jack of Fables. Actually, I'd adore that. How many volumes would it be? 3? 4?
>>
>>78161230
The thinner ones with only 6 issues, right?

I have been meaning to read Hickman's Time Runs Out saga. When I saw on Amazon that there is a large collection of it coming next August or so, I thought I'd wait for that (I've got plenty else to read). But should I just get the smaller books 1 through 4?
>>
>>78161249
Thanks! I will check those out. Swamp Thing is a favorite. And I want to like Teen Titans.
>>
>>78160888
All of the Convergence tie-ins were decent at worst.
The core story suffered from association with Earth-2.
>>
>>78161398
yeah but those 6 issues HC aren't as good
>>
>>78161287
Thanks anon :^)
>>78161328
Yeah fable omni would be cool. Always up for more vertigo HCs
My dream collection would be swamp thing absolutes, concrete LE, stray bullets OHCs, and astro city omnibus
>>

>>
>>78161923
Meh, shelf thread take a little time to get rolling. And they always move at a constant pace or daily burst. But yeah once they get rolling they're fun. Just wait for cream to get her and it'll pick up
>>
>>78161586
Moore Swampy Absolutes would be tasty.
>>
I just finished the 4th Deluxe HC of Y the Last Man. It feels like the story was just dragging in this volume, I'm about to start the last volume now
>>
>>78162008
I wish I had a phone that worked. I'd post my collection. These threads shouldn't have to rely on CREAM, as much as he is great on these threads. I think he'd agree with me.
>>
>>78162093
I gave up at that point on the story when the monthlies were originally coming out. As many have mentioned before, Vaughan, as much as I love him, is better at the beginning of a story. He tends to drag a plot along.
>>
>>78162056
I'm a little irked preacher is getting absolutes before swampy
Part of me thinks it'll never happen cause of moore, but then again DC doesn't give a shit about moore's feelings
>>
>>78162093

Was that the one where he tried to explain the entire man genocide? Ugh.

I want my Ex Machina HCs, although that huge fucking tease towards the end left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.
>>
>>78162157
I concur, sir. However, the only reason why Preacher is getting Absoluted is because of the TV show.
>>
Not necessairly dream book as dream series as I'd really like Peter David's marvel work collected in a nice format. His Hulk, Captain Marvel, and X-Factor runs were all worth having on a bookshelf. His Young Justice too but I thought I'd just stick to Marvel.
>>
I've been interested in Seeley's Hack/Slash. Worth owning the first edition? What format?
>>
>>78162106
Cream is kind of a faggot but he does spark discussion so I don't mind his gayness. Just out of curiosity what do you have in your collection
>>78162203
Basically, though vertigo has been dying a lot more absolutes lately so I'm sure swampy will get them eventually. Will prolly see 100 bullets in the near future as well.
>>
>>78162239
PD does not receive as much love as I'd think he would from the publishers. I'd love to have the last 6 issues of his Hulk run collected. They had great emotional moments and wonderful art from young Adam Kubert.
>>
>>78162239
How long was his Captain Marvel? I know he stays on books for a long time, but this shop near me has quite a few Genis issues. I was thinking of picking them up if what they have is most, if not all, of the run.
>>
>>78162292
A lot. Been collecting since '91. Books mostly from Marvel, DC, Vertigo, Image. A few Dark Horse books. I happen to have the 100 Bullets softcovers and Deluxe editions since you mentioned them.

I prefer (good quality) hardcovers to softcovers. I'm selective about the omnibi I purchase. Absolutes are cool and I have a few of those including Absolute Planetary and Absolute Authority Vol 1-2 of each.

How about you?
>>
>>78162393
Only been collecting for a few years, I'm op. Same with you I prefer HCs to paperbacks
>>
>>78162312

I think there was at least two volumes. One at 36 and the other at 24 or 25? it was one of those books like Spider-Girl (which is another book that'd be nice to have in omni or HC format) where it was cancelled and then brought back.
>>

I picked up The Walking Man by Taniguchi recently. I l loved it. Taniguchi's art is always a pleasure to behold. Unfortunately, the artwork was flipped which led to some of the speech bubbles having to be read in a weird order. High quality book beyond that.

How much was the Star-Lord?
>>
>>78171733
Ok. Real question.

How is this real? I read a lot, but I get most of it from the library and occasionally friends. I Buy maybe 1/10 of what I read. How can you even afford all this? These books are pretty expensive. Do you not have anyone in your life or do anything else? Or do you just have hella disposable income?
>>
>>78171799
Cultured? Me? No.

>>78171812
$45. Half price for Black Friday. At that price I had to pick that up. Too bad they didn't have Ghost Rider or Man-Thing as well.
>>
>>78171817
It's not really that expensive compared to normal hobby shit if you get them while they're in print. Not much different from having a library of blurays or something else fairly mainstream
>>
>>78171817
I live alone, have 2 jobs, and have self control issues. I go out of my way to buy as much as I can at as low a price I can, hitting up stores like the Salvation Army and Strand Bookstore to buy used and cheap books. the Daredevil omni was only $60 thanks to Strand. Same with the Hulk omni. I try to take advantage of sales, like the B&N buy 2 get 1 free sale from last year. I've also been collecting for near a decade.
>>
>>78171845
I guess so. I look at your shelves and see thousands of dollars worth of books. How long have you been collecting?

I have a question senpai. How are the paperback releases of the two Seven Soldiers collections that were released as "Book One" and "Book Two"? Should I not bother and just track down the hardcovers?
>>
>>78173539
it was meant as a joke yes. but it's a highly profitable venture to say the least. i mean i used to make a wooden bracket thing that you put in hon file cabinets to make it have two snug secure lines for stand up comic storage and it sold for 300 bucks.
>>

interesting... do you have a picture or maybe you could google image search similar one? i'm curious as to what you're talking about, i just can't imagine it.

thats fucking awesome. i was just looking at how horrible the omnibus for this looks and the price tag.. comparing it to the trades. you can buy all the trades for 50 bucks, but this will be such a better alternative!

thanks man! added
>>

as someone who doesnt order online much (no IST) and has never delved into ebaying, im pretty excited for it since i'll just be able to grab it at my lcs, i know the old trades are out there but what a pain in the ass to track them down..

also two larger volumes vs 4 smaller ones is a bit nicer. there was no way i was going to get that giantass omni, i like reading in my comfy chair not at a table. lol.

I actually haven't read it in over 4 years. Lets see...
Wolverine 42-48, X-Factor 8-9, Cable & Deadpool 30-32, Civil War X-Men 1-4, Blade 5, Civil War files, Civil War: Damage Report.
Looking at this again, it is quite nice. It has a speech "written" by Tony Stark in it as well.
>>78181902
It is light hearted fun. They contain slice of life shorts, as opposed to cases or investigations. There are some localizations, but it explains what they are; which is neat.

It's your fault if they cancel the later Suicide Squad printings

Why kept them all these years. They are amazing works to this day. The "updated" art is nothing compared to the original.

I have most of the issues from when I was a kid. I love the book. Only issue is that Halo's aura is color oriented so you lose that. And yes, Aparo art. Best DC book I own.

>>78194181
Yes. Lots of good going on in it. Jordi Bernet might be my favorite issue.

I already own the softcovers x4. So much better than the omni for the extras alone.
>>
>>78194316
Whoa. That's a bold statement about it being the best DC book you own. I heard about the issue with Halo's aura in B&W. It's the only thing preventing me from getting the book. Just doesn't sound like a complete experience if you smell what I'm cookin'.

I mostly collect marvel comics (Carol Danvers is my favorite hero), but I'm thinking about expanding my horizons. What DC comic is good to start with?
>>
>>78194710
I'm not entirely sure why, but Kingdom Come came to mind first.

>>
>>78194710
Depends. Is there a specific DC character you like or would like to read some of? Also, what are some favorite stories of yours? If you had to pick, do you prefer better art or better writing? Do you like older or more modern stuff? We need some more info to help you out.
>>78194740
I like KC, but that /may/ not be a great starting point.

>Kingdom Come
Its not a great entry point and I honestly think its overrated
>>
>>78194880
You're probably right.

>>78194710
Try Superman: Red Son. I got a number of my non-comic book reading friends to read that and they all enjoyed it. It is out of continuity but oh so damn good.
>>
>>78194839
You've got Sandman, and more commitment to owning trades than me (I'm looking at the Avengers collection, looks nice all lined up) so that's a nice little collection in my eyes.
Maybe pick up JLA Year One, or the new Batgirl series if you want to expand into DC a bit more.
>>
>>78194839
I see you've got a lot of continuous trades. Are you looking for a new series, or do you want more contained things?
I'm gonna recommend Batman: Long Halloween as Batman is a good entry character and The Long Halloween is a self contained story which is better if your just looking to dip your feet in the water.
Also here's the /co/ recs wiki, though i'm not sure when it was last updated
>http://recommendations.wikia.com/wiki/Category:/co/_-_Comics_%26_Cartoons
>>
>>78194886
Axis was interesting; I actually liked the companion book better than the event itself, I think. Axis was kind of a clusterfuck of action and trying to shoehorn in all the inversion bullshit at the same time, but the companion book is just a bunch of short stories expanding on how all the characters actually *live* in the new enviroment. Only four issues, with two stories each, but a nice little collection.

>>78194915
>>78194989
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll at least flip through a trade of each of those, probably buy at least one or two.
>>78194880
I'm interested in the Batman side characters for one, but I really don't know much about the expanded universe. As far as favorite stories, I really liked Captain Marvel IN SPACE and Iron Man IN SPACE, so I was considering Green Lantern as a possible starting point (because SPACE). In general I go with writing over art, although the Edmondson/Noto run of Black Widow was, quite simply, beautiful. I mostly go for new stuff as that's easier to find, the old things I do have are mostly just kinda silly.

>>78195161
I like series more than single stories, as generally if I like what I read I'm gonna want to get as much of the same as I can.
>>
>>78194336
They're priced ok on IST and Amazon (though it would be a marketplace purchase there). I was mostly wondering about the binding but I guess it's not too much of a price different regardless so I should get off my ass and get the hcs while I can.
>>
>>78194572
For me it is. I grew up reading those books over and over. I couldn't give 2 shits about most other DC, but Batman and the Outsiders was one of my favorite books growing up, almost on the same level as Ghost Rider. Since this was the only collection I was ever going to find without binding my own books, I had to buy it.

>>78194710
The aforementioned Batman and the Outsiders doesn't require too much knowledge going in. You could always check out Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing and Animal Man from the Nu52 line. I fucking loved Crisis on Infinite Earths, but as little as I read of DC growing up I had enough knowledge of the stories to keep up. Same with JLA/Avengers.

>>78194880
Kingdom Come actually got me back into active collecting back in 2004. A friend said he loved it and I would at least dig the art. Picked up a copy at St. Mark's Comics and haven't looked back. It took me a while to really rev up and find something outside of the generic stuff like that and House of M, but they helped revive my love for the medium after going nearly a decade just rereading my old longbox material.
>>
I love all of the Rucka love DC will be giving his work throughout 2016, just looking at the slate of future collections. The question becomes, do I sell my Rucka Wonder Woman trades, my Puckett Batgirl trades, and my Morrison/Milllar trades to make room for these new editions? I want to know what the paper quality will be like. And the extras, if any. Binding?
