/co/ opinion about this cartoon

I liked it as a kid. I re-watched the series this summer and it still holds up, post season 1 is specifically is good. The Thank You Note episode was pretty sad.
>>
>>78127297
I liked it.
>>
>>78127297
I loved it and wish could watch again, but alas that's impossible.
>>
I know that I watched it but I dont remember anything about it.
>>
>>78127967
How's that impossible?

A young eventually-to-be comedian tells tall tales of his childhood in sometimes exaggerated and often humorous fashion. His large family and temperamental father are the most recurring topics.
>>
In this part of the world it's insanely popular. They had a panel with the dub actors at our comic-con and a lot of people attended. Even they couldn't believe how big it was.
>>
>>78127996
Not released on anything. Not even VHS (in full).
>>
>>78128975
But you can find the whole series even on youtube.
>>
>>78128997
In shit quality.
>>
>>78127297
Watched it all the time as a kid. His voice always killed me.
>>
>>78128997
It's unwatchable because clearly he lost his eyes in a tragic accident. Why are you such an ableist scum?
>>
The only thing I remember about this show is Louie's mom telling them they can't have a cat because they lick the butter.
>>
There's a torrent out there that combines the English audio with video from Jetix Play, so that's your best bet.
>>
>>78127297
god tier.
>>
>>78127297
Chill cartoon, mango.
>>
All I remember is a loli.
>>
>>78127297
Is this Steven Universe?
>>

It's weird how angry and semi-abusive his dad was, for a kid's show. It was originally supposed to be prime time but was moved to Fox Afternoon.
>>
Has a cult status in some countries for some reason.

God-tier, one of my all-time favorites. Louie's dad is best character from everything
>>
>>78132384
He was an abusive alcoholic husband and father irl. Especially towards Louie.
>>
My dad really liked it.

that really stuck in my head too. i think of it every time our cat licks the butter
>>78131875
jeannie harper was fantastic
>that time when she was only slightly reluctant to being on the 'skins' team in basketball practice
>>
>>78132348
>>78132408
people weren't that sensitive about it either at the time of the setting or time of the airing. that's just how some shit is. it doesnt 'scar you for life' any more than the dad in question was scarred for life by fighting in the war
>>
I remember an episode where he makes a movie but that's about it
>>
>>78132408
He was a piece of shit father in the show and I think it gave the cartoon character for it.
>>
>>78133441
He was much more sanitized on the show than he was in real life. Anderson's standup act included talking about his dad, and while he played it for laughs (partially as a coping mechanism) it was always clear that his dad was a legitimately terrible person.

The show tones down Anderson's dad impression, so it's basically a slightly more kid-friendly version of his standup, which is itself a toned down version of what the real dad was like.
>>
It was pretty chill.
>>
>>78127297
Wasn't as good as Bruno the Kid, but still watchable.
>>
I suppressed this show for so long. It was one of those "I'll watch it because nothing else is on" cartoons during my childhood.

This cartoon could have been my life. My granddad got fucked up in the head from Korea and took it out on my dad and his brother. Beat them, kicked them out as soon as he could, etc.

My dad was a total softy to me, though. It's probably why I was fucked up for so long. I bet Louie is the same to his kids.

In real life, Louie had nine older siblings, which were always in shadow in the show and rarely seen.

It was weird that Louie had a lower voice than his dad.
>>
I have to thank We Hate Movies for introducing me to this show. The best podcast on the internet.

>In the late 1990s, Anderson was blackmailed by a man named Richard John Gordon. Gordon extorted money from Anderson, threatening to reveal to tabloids that Anderson reportedly propositioned him in a casino in 1993.[15]

Anderson initially paid Gordon $100,000 in hush money, fearing the story would threaten his starring roles in two family-oriented series, but when Gordon's demands increased to $250,000 in 2000, he informed law-enforcement authorities. Gordon, who was 31 at the time, was arrested.[15][16]
>>
Life With Louie actually won two Emmy Awards. It was a good show that dealt with a lot of things kids have to deal with growing up.
>>
>>78134515
Boy, there were a lot of "kid comedian" shows in the 90s, weren't there? There was also Lil' Rosie and Bobby's World.

jesus bruno the kid was brilliant. i wish i could find it online
>>78134778
a lower voice than his adult self even. i wonder if their intention was to pitch it up, so he intentionally did a lower pitched vrsion of how he remembered talking as a kid so that it would come out sounding like a kid, but they were like "Actually this sounds great as-is, keep it"
>>
>>78135237

LoK is trash nothing new
>>
>>78129005
Maybe so, but that's not the same as "not released on anything" now is it?
Hell, you even said a VHS release would count, but VHS quality isn't exactly dandy.
>>
>>78136288
this. youtube quality is fine for old cartoons, it's not like it was broadcast in very high quality at all.
>>

Keep thinking Louie Anderson died before remembering John Candy did, get those confused.

Might as well ask /co/'s opinion about Camp Candy then.
>>
>>78127297
Never watched it but the kid looks like a young Donald Trump.
>>
>>78139282
yeah, when bobby hill said he wanted to be "the first chubby comic to live past 35" he was talking about candy, belushi, farley, and.. at the time we all assumed, andersen. but then he ended up surviving somehow.

she was pretty goddamn cute. and the voice didnt hurt

I'd have to rewatch it to form a valid opinion on it.

Huh, this is much more down to earth & less cringeworthy than I remember. I thought it was like Eek the cat for some reason.

to this day i remember a commercial for it, some girl asking him what he feeds his fish and in that voice "chicken, cheesecake, donuts" i dont remember anything else from the show
>>
>>78143841
They aired Louie, then Eek, and you had to get through them that afternoon before you got to X-Men.
>>
>>78135506
Yeah that was serious assumption on his part that anyone would like that shitshow.

my poor grampa's birthday is pearl harbor day
i always forget the exact day, which is pretty stupid.. i seem to have trouble establishing emotional connections with numbers. I keep thinking it's the 4th or the 11th.
so anyway around the 11th I emailed him with another belated birthday wishes, and this cartoon i thought he wound find funny
he said he did find it funny, and yet also kinda sad. not because it ruined his birthday but because he remembers how utterly devastated people were. It's weird to think how seriously people could take shit back then. They weren't raised with "oh yeah oklahoma city bombing this and gulf war that" like we were.. this was the first time the US had ever been properly attacked by another country. That must have really freaked them out. And that was a way tougher generation too. Not to mention in this specific case, a military family
>>
Louie's dad was a pretty typical of a father in the 1950s and 1960s.

Have lots of kids, have a basic blue collar job with a stay at home wife while still being able to afford to raise a large family in a huge house.

It was common for dads those days to complain about everything and anything and the family just has to take it. He was the boss and it would be a death sentence for anybody to question or correct him about anything.
>>
>>78127297
I recall watching it a lot actually.

the dad was pretty damn funny.
>>
I only remember the chess episode and the episode where his grandma died. Bretty good.
