How cold is Captain Cold's gun? If it's able to freeze light, it must be pretty damn cold.

>How cold is Captain Cold's gun? If it's able to freeze light, it must be pretty damn cold.

Nearly as cold as Superman's breath, which can freeze ghosts
>>
>>78120416
this isnt as dumb as the shows version of the super sonic punch.
>>
>>78120416
Well it isn't freezing light. Lasers are not visible like that anyway unless there is a lot of dust particles in the air. So clearly, the gun is freezing the dirt and dust in the air around the beam of light, and causing the system to shut down temporarily. He even says that the system will start up again soon.
How even if he did "freeze light", that would do shit for the security system as the beam would be interrupted and cause the alarm to go off.
>>
>>78120416
You have to be able to tell tongue-in-cheek if you want to enjoy the Flash, man. It has the in-universe rules of a Saturday morning cartoon from the late 90's, just with live actors and a 2010's aesthetic.

Especially when Captain Cold is on screen.

Speed Force or some shit
>>
>>78120585
Fuck you, I'm sick of this fucking meme /co/ has created as an excuse for piss poor writing. You can't just explain every thing that happens in Flash by Speed Force.
>>
>>78120592
You've lost your connection to the speed force, that's why you're so upset over something so trivial.

Yes you can.
>>

I'm pretty sure Pym Particles work the same way, even across Universes.
>>

Cisco mentioned off-hand that it can reduce things 0 kelvin. You're already pissing on physics with that so why not run with it
>>
>>78120592
/co/ did not create that meme, dude. It's way older than /co/. Asshats have been saying that in comic shops to explain Flash shit since Waid's run.
>>
>>78120416

As the resident neckbeards proclaiming their Coldgod have explain multiple times before, Captain Cold's gun doesn't actually freeze stuff or even lower its temperature, it literally inhibits motion at the quantum scale. The resulting drop in temperature is just a byproduct.

It's better that way. You want an explanation? You know what happened when Cyclops' power was explained? His eyes are doorways to a dimension of concussive force.

No. Call all the Flash stuff Speed Force and leave it at that.
>>
>>78120732
Yea that is pretty much it, its the reason giving him actual "cold powers" doesn't really work.

The speed force is literally the movement of the story. That's why there's always a Flash doing big shit in events.

i care about the dark matter.
your particle accelerator did not release a torrent of dark matter.
even if it did, this wave of dark matter would have interacted with jack fucking shit as it went wherever.

they could have said any random unquantified energy field and it would have the exact same impact on the story and be a million times more believable.
>>
>>78121039

They did something to give one bix the properties of "being from earth 2" and then used quantum entaglement bullshit to spread that property to the rest of the boxes, which allowed them to be attracted to the open wormhole.

Yeah it makes zero sense regardless.

No, literally, ripped a hole open in the bleed and allowed story-stuff to leak into the universe, kickstarting the events of the show.

dark energy sounds even cooler, still not going to interact with stuff. they might as well have said neutrinos came out of the thing, at least there is a tiny chance they would interact with something, and they very low chance of that would explain why there are so few metahumans when the blast hit all of central city

Bringing light to a halt: Physicists freeze motion of light for a minute

Date:
August 6, 2013
Source: Technische Universität Darmstadt
Summary: Physicists have been able to stop something that has the greatest possible speed and that never really stops: light. A decade ago, physicists stopped it very for a short moment. In recent years, this extended towards stop times of a few seconds for simple light pulses in extremely cold gases and special crystals. But now the same researchers extended the possible duration and applications for freezing the motion of light considerably. The physicists stopped light for about one minute. They were also able to save images that were transferred by the light pulse into the crystal for a minute -- a million times longer than previously possible.
>>
>>78121311

Basically, the Dominators kidnapped a bunch of humans and exposed them to physical trauma to get data from the metagene, so they could mass produce super powers.

It's similar to Animal Man being tied to the red and Alex Holland and Poison Ivy being attached to the green.
>>
>>78121314
Absolute zero is absolute cold.

It's a gun that has the effect of robbing whatever it hits of massive amounts of thermal energy, just fucking roll with it.

there is canonically a secret infinity gem called the continuity stone, which only Deadpool is aware of, which grants him meta-awareness, including the fact that something being canon is pointless if no other writer acknowledges it.

There's also Gwen Poole, an ordinary human from a world with Marvel comics but not supers, who wound up in 616 and immediately concluded that she'll need plot armor to survive and that she'll need to be a superhero to get plot armor.

There's also Madcap, who has the ability to manipulate the 4th wall ala Duck Amuck

There's also She-Hulk, who learned, from an ex-superhero that wanted to get back into am ongoing comic book so that she would stop aging again, to use similar powers to Madcap in Byrne's run

There's also Loki, who, is aware of the narrative 'gravity' of the universe that will keep compelling him to become a villain because that's how the stories go
>>
>>78121376
The Continuity Stone isn't canon.
>>
>>78121279
>Why can't people just pick up the absolute zero and throw it back at him?

>>
>>78121223
Like all fundamental particles, photons display properties of both classical particles and waves. They have momentum but also a characteristic frequency/wavelength.

Photons/electromagnetic waves reflect, refract, diffract, interfere, and scatter.
>>
>>78121395
It is if you believe in it.

>There's also Gwen Poole, an ordinary human from a world with Marvel comics but not supers, who wound up in 616 and immediately concluded that she'll need plot armor to survive and that she'll need to be a superhero to get plot armor.
WHAT
no way.
this is too brilliant to be Marvel
>>
>>78121367
Yeah, I'm saying that 'absolute cold' means more that the real physics concept of 'absolute zero', since it contains the bullshit properties of freezing whatever the writers need, even if it means literal magic conversion of photons into water-based ice and stop the lasers from emitting altogether.

But it's basically people missing the point of the show or the comics. These a premise statements and concepts, not conclusions. They didn't arrive at the bullshit science stage, they started there. They said fuck logic from the get go, so arguing against it is pointless, so either enjoy it or watch something else.

putting on a mask and get herself involved in superhero-ish things like picking fights with Black Cat, messing with Hydra, and acting like a huge mary sue that can't fail. Getting a bit in a Christmas special and being drawn by Gurihiru probably helps,
>>

The problem with that strategy is that she may only hit "C List" status and then get killed off unceremoniously in Marvel's next event.

>>
>>78121671
yeah, it's a gamble for sure. the self-referential feedback loop is pretty intense, it could honestly go in any direction.

On the other hand, she expliciteley says she doesn't just want plot armor but also the possibility of just coming back whenever she dies, with only the barest excuses to how. If she's lucky she could hit that Kenny niche where the writers don't even bother anymore, she dies every time she appears but is alive and well the next book she shows up in with no explanation because that's her 'thing'
>>
